Heh, I feel no temptation to look at them, and I think you're a bit of a dick for posting spoilers at all - tags or no. I admire Martin, and it's a bit douchey to spread spoilers before the official release date.

    It's a trap, they're not spoilers.

What he said. It was an ingenious, dastardly plot to shame those who would be tempted into reading spoilers.

/glares at Ashaya, the queen of spoiler whores.

But yes. I am being a bit of an ass.

I only got done reading Feast for Crows two days ago, and the rest of you have been waiting for six years for ADWD, so some spoiler-hunting may occur... Me? I can wait two weeks. Such a long time though. :p

I've been trying to read between classes and on the train, but it's a big, heavy hardcover book, and I only managed to get through 27 pages today.

    COME ON, WEEKEND. COME ONNNNNNN.

Effing Chemistry midterm on a damn Friday. :(

I am so unbelievably pumped for this book. 4 years of wanting to know what's happened to Jon, Bran, Dany, Tyrion, Arya and (kind of) Brienne and it's finally down to 2 weeks.

A lot of people are complaining that they're disappointed it's been compared to AFFC in terms of plot action, but I think that'll actually be a good thing. You can't have nonstop action in a 7 book series, especially in one with as vast a scope as this one. I think (hope) GRRM's going to answer a few of the questions that have been debated about for the past six years - namely R+L=J, what the deal is with the Golden Company and the Blackfyres, and the Three-eyed Crow and Coldhands. But knowing him, for every answer we get, about 14,000 more questions will pop up. And they'll be awesome.

Yeah, I don't mind the talk of it being similar to Feast.

Really, book 4 was very good...maybe not as great as Storm, but very good nonetheless.

The problem people really had, I think, is the lack of certain characters and that won't be as much of an issue for Dance.

Unless of course you wanted to hear more from Brienne or Sansa or Sam or whoever.

I hope we find out Brienne's fate in Dance though, I don't want to wait several more years and I had grown fond of her.

Right. Not looking to spoil, but just to get your hopes up for the upcoming release.

I'm about 200 pages in, taking my time and reading it slowly. It's exactly what I've been waiting 6 years for and more- when you get your hands on your copy, it won't fucking disappoint.

Well it's officially out now. How should we handle spoilers here? On one hand this is the thread for the books, and the book is out now, and it's irritating to have to read massive walls of text in spoiler form, but it'd also suck to spoil it too soon for anyone...

Suck it up. Posting untagged spoilers willy-nilly this early on is a dick move, even in this thread. Not everybody would be getting the book right off - Lutris certainly hasn't been posting untagged spoilers since he got it, has he? I have it, and am reading it, but I have no intention of talking about it outside of spoiler boxes. If you have a problem with reading walls of text in spoiler form, then just deal with it.

    Speaking of spoilers.

Well, I'm only about halfway through, but I gotta say that the existence of...
    Prince Aegon
    ...took me completely by surprise.

And yeah, that one is a real spoiler ;)

Came out of the left field, IMO. Changes everything for a lot of characters.

Also, Varys and his loli squad. :awesome

Anyone else find it slightly irritating that half of the chapter titles are no longer the name of the POV character? I used to think I didn't like that in the first 4 books, but now that it's less common (with chapters having names like "The Sacrifice") I find that I miss it.

Also Dolorous Edd might be my new favorite character. Not that he has a big role or anything, but he always makes me laugh.

And ye gods, Victarion is boring.

I'm just about to start "The Lost Lord" chapter. Some thoughts so far... spoilers for the preceding chapters.

OMG@ Aegon being alive. One now wonders if his sister is alive too. I mean, it would be odd for them to take this precaution with one child and not the other. And the dragon has three heads...

As predicted, everything is going tits up for Daenerys. But more annoying than the fact that she's beset on all sides is the fact that she's lost her nerve. She's scared of her own dragons, she's scared of setting out to attack her enemies. She's just sitting in her city as everything falls to pieces around her. I really hope Tyrion gets to her in a timely manner, just so that he can slap some sense into her. And all the stuff with Dario was just wtf.
