It would be a great series of one-shots. I wouldn't read more.

Because stealing other people's ideas to use them in fanfiction is my hobby, another plot bunny inspired by something I've recently read.

Harry decides to go back in time to prevent his parent's death from the hand of Voldemort (and to save other people who had died in the Second War). He is prepared so he quickly destroys Horcruxes and manages to catch the Dark Lord right before he kills James. After a long duel Harry defeats Tom, but unfortunately the baby Harry is also killed in the battle.

Now, because of some wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff‏, Harry returns to the present time (from his perspective). There he discovers that the Wizard World is torn by terrible war. The Dark Lady Lily Potter with a help of her loyal friend Severus Snape (who is actually spying for Dumbledore, trying to save Lily from herself) is seeking revenge on Pure-bloods families and everyone who is helping them. On the other side is James Potter trying to stop his mad wife and hating himself for helping people who are indirectly responsible for the death of his only son.

In a middle of all this Harry is trying to figure out what should he do, especially since he doesn't have resources needed to go back in time once again.

Sounds mad. Plenty of opportunity for Epic asskickery as Harry wavers between sides.

    Chance of Harry/Lily too :D.

Sounds interesting. Why wouldn't James side with her? Is Lily a pureblood hater, or a bloodhead (Can't remember where I heard the term, but doesn't it fit?) hater?

Could be fun, but what about keeping on going back? He keeps on trying to make things better, and we see a variety of different characters become a dark lord/lady for a variety of reasons. ButterflyEffect!Harry?

Been wanting to try a Harry/Daphne fic for a while and this little statement popped into my head today.

"One is driven by fate, the other by hate."

From there a bunny was produced.

Setting: Post Hogwarts during Horcrux hunt. Ron, Harry, and Hermione are ambushed when Harry decides to follow the Hallows instead. Ron and Hermione are killed, eliminating them from the equation, hate writing them sometimes post OotP. Harry survives by Ron's sacrifice, insert some plausible way for him to usher Harry away. (Will not be pushes him and takes a killing curse for him. Nothing cliched.)

This does two things. It introduces Harry into obsession now that Voldemort has hidden his remaining Horcruxes, the diadem and Nagini. He has to focus on the Hallows now for they offer the only ray of light for defeating him. Insert depression sans angst. Maybe he has two mementos on his person at all times reminding him of his lost friends.

Characters: Main two Daphne and Harry. Side ones, Snape, Bellatrix, and Lucius family. Snape abandones DE's in search of Harry once Nagini is protected. Bellatrix goes hunting for Harry to redeem herself of her embarrasment fifth year. Lucius tries to work his way back into his Master's good graces. Difficult since Voldemort is now constantly in rage(knows Harry has destroyed some of his horcruxes), but not cliched villain crucios everywhere. Orders his DE's to do suicidal things at times and other things that upset them. Makes them hurt their families. (Lucius forced to crucio his own son for sixth year failing. Does it to win Voldemor's good graces.) One example there of. Another. Forcing Alecto and Amycus(sp?) to duel to see who has right to remain alive.

Daphne. The weakest link in my mind now. She is driven by hate for Voldemort. The reasoning is vague. Has to be traumatic, no ice-queen bullshit, but a young woman lacking scruples and is driven to see the Dark Lord dead. (Family driven insane by him years ago after his rise. Making her watch her family debase themselves before their Lord? Could be a tie in for how much pride she has in herself and her status as a pureblood. Maybe learns through school Tom's status as half-blood during sixth year sometime?

Okay I got it. Lord V comes back summer before fifth, to her she has been her idol. The one in which she should prepare herself to serve loyally since birth.(None sexual preverts.) The man to christen in a new age for all purebloods. Brainwashed by family, but adores her father and strives to be akin to her mother. (Maybe a little ice-queen without the bullshit? Aloof and tries to keep up appearances? Could be a deconstruction of it as her ideals were shattered so present day is aloof but not distant?) Lord V punishes her family by first making them grovel and debase themselves.

"How can we show you our forgiveness, my Lord?"

    "Be creative."

From there her father and mother do some traumatic shit, maybe to her little sister, younger brother? Destroys Daphne's world view of her parents being haughty all-mighty purebloods. They no longer epitomize pureblood status. (Akin to realizing your parents aren't heros in RL) But still respects Lord V. for his dream and ideals. Purebloods are more powerful because he is.

Sixth year, that is blown away by revelation dropped by Harry and Dumbledore in conversation she overhears. Struggles with it until her bitterness and disillusionment turn to hatred. Learns of Harry's quest and maybe Horcruxes? Either way, she leaves her family, no attachment anyway save maybe Astoria, and goes in search of Harry.

    Plot:

They meet and she manipulates him as best she can, using guile, sexual advances, anything she can think of to win him over.(Maybe? Not sure, but just joining his cause is stupid.) He sees through it, causes initially conflict. She refuses to tell her motivations, and he goes to leave. Enter Bellatrix who followed Daphne, maybe on a whim? Battle ensues, two barely escape. (Bellatrix will be one bad motherfucker in this.)

Ensue flight and two coming to rely on each other, not through some lovey-dovey bullshit, but through common enemy learn to trust the other's capabilities. Daphne is not uber-awesome with a wand, but competent. Harry has more battle experience, there will be little she can teach in way of wand-work. (I hate that damn cliche.)

Insert conflict about her reasons, she explodes on him about how Voldemort is nothing but a half-blood and desecration to the pureblood name. Harry can't respect her for that at all, but can sympathize because he sees a human whose been letdown and hurt. (Cue his feelings developing through sympathy, realizing she's just a lost soul in this war. His reasoning is bullshit because he doesn't know the why behind it, just that her ideals were shattered. Feels the same away about Dumbledore, etc.) Introduces a parallel between them. Both looked up to the epitome of their side and have been letdown.

Insert Bellatrix another time, Bellatrix killed his best friends, and Daphne sees a Harry driven by his own hatred. In battle, becomes slowly ruthless and begins to shine, mirroring Bellatrix's own style of combat. (Maybe? Could be just Harry seeing the wizarding world falling apart and realizing he has nothing left to lose. Tie in with obsession with ending Voldemort and his personality darkens.) Have inner conflict about taking a life that he struggles with, but it eventually squashed by seeing the crimes and atrocities the DE's manage to do. Muggle-born camps, etc.

Through seeing Harry like that Daphne begins to respect him more, not just as the Golden Boy the Prophet once painted him as. Maybe fearful?

From there their relationship will deepen, still not love, that's cliched. Daphne eventually sees 'pureblood's' making muggle-borns do things like Voldemort made her parents, comes to realize the ideal she clung to was stupid and that there was nothing 'pure' about it. Not removal of muggleborns, but repression of them. (Distinction in this will be shown at start of fic.) Grows up a little and slowly her idealized childhood fantasy, though not depicted as such at start, will take subtle cues but I think I can do it, crumble and fall away.

Similar happens to Harry when he witnesses Order members doing similar just to save their own families. Another parallel. One that won't be outright stated for the reader.

Together their worlds are shaken and grow with friendship thus introducing compatibility with romance because she's no longer pureblood nutty and he's not golden-boy loves and kisses.

Together decide to find the Hallows and end everything. In search Voldemort is looking for Harry because of prophecy. So Daphne wishes revenge(Hate) and Harry because he has to face him.(Fate.)

Along way they into Snape. Harry's fate is revealed and he learns he has to die. Decides he will die while taking Voldemort with him. Daphne doesn't wish him to die, they've grown close, but does not breakdown begging him not to. Instead supports him because in the end, her hate for Voldemort is far greater than her burgeoning feelings for Harry.

That's about all I have for now. As you can see, this can go into cliched territory very, very easily. I'm unsure on somethings, but also wanted to get this out of my head.

So I was thinking and you know how we have all these 'Harry gets transported to an AU where his parents never died/Voldemort never existed/etc. and those are great and all, but why hasn't anyone tried to do the opposite?

Why not take a Harry from an AU where Voldemort won, or he wasn't the boy who lived or whatever the hell else you want to do and chuck him into the canonverse?

Just imagine the posibilities! Maybe the AU he's from is seriously fucked up and instead of his parents defying Voldemort thrice they jumped at his first offer, leading to him becoming a mini Death Eater of some sort? Would lead to some pretty serious conflict in the canonverse what with him being the Boy who lived all of a sudden.

Aaand my train of thought pretty much ends there. Yeah.

Still, I'd like to think it has some potential.

The problem with that would be he isn't the Harry we know. And whilst one doesn't have to write a Harrycentric fic, he is normally a good choice as we already empathise with him.

Also, Cloneserpents has done one of these on ff.net. It is a haremfic, it is ridiculously smutty, and it is unfinished. But it is a foreign Harry thrown into a mainly canonverse.

But if it was written well, I'd like to see something like that.

I think this is a really, really good idea but I think you'd need to focus on him either using Transfiguration or Charms sorta like Dumbledore did. He doesn't need to learn the Dark Arts as he could easily use these two branches of magic to wtfpwn.

I think if you made it more about him learning more defences against the dark arts (counter curses, shields) and intertwined it with his other knowledge you could really portray something that's not been done to death, or not done well, by authors. It also means you can have him study Dumbledore dueling, whether it's from books, memories or talking to the portrait himself.

I most certainly agree with the bolded. I think it would be great to connect Harry and Dumbledore in such a way. However when I thought this plot bunny up I didn't envision Harry learning defense. In my mind, he's got plenty of that in the forms of his transfiguration studies, having advanced so far that using it to defend himself will be a thoughtless action in a fight (just like Dumbledore).

What Harry needs to do in this story is pick up where the books (pre-epilogue of course) left off. With a vengeance. The odds are stacked even higher this time considering that his opponent is the Master of Death. Added to that, Harry isn't even aware if this new Dark Lord is in posession of horcruxes, similarly to Voldemort, or if he's invested in something completely different.

This is a mission impossible story, and if done the way I imagined it, will reek of tones similar to Joe's Wastelands of Time story. There will be a constant feeling of hopelessness and urgency in the background while you're reading, and you'll have to wonder if Harry will even pull it off ('it' being defeating the new Dark Lord and avenging his family), and if he does, how he'll do it.

I just figured that he could research more defence since I don't think Transfiguration and Charms would save him from everything. He'd need to know counter curses and defences cause a severing curse may break through a conjured item, but not a shield. Could just be a more powerful protego. It depends on how you work the magic system really. If it's based on different shields for different curses, or just one shield. I personally like using shields for physical attacks and one for magical attacks.

I enjoy reading a story where there isn't 600 different spells and each one has a counter but rather there's specific counters for a group of curses that are similar to each other (fire, severing, etc.) And it's more to do with the fact that it's how you use the magic. I'm sure it could work without adding in the defence magic element, and indeed Transfiguration could cover that.

Harry was known for having a knack for Defence so I think it'd be nice to see some of the original character of Harry still there.

The problems with this story would be dealing with the other, inevitably important side-characters. The other three of the DoM Six: Neville, Ginny, and Luna.

I happen to like all three of them, especially Neville. It'd be difficult to do away with them, since they're all in different locations in DH: Neville is at Hogwarts, Ginny leaves Hogwarts at Christmas to exile with Fred&George, and Luna is a captive at the Malfoy Mansion. You can't kill all three in one convenient swoop, like you did with Ron and Hermione.

Ginny would especially be a problem, since she's surrounded by the Badassness of the Twins and Bill Weasley. Plus she'd be a presence on Harry's mind, which puts a wrench in your Harry/Daphne plan.

My solution would be to send Neville and Ginny out of England and to safety, before Christmas; evacuate some of the Hogwarts students when Alecto and Amycus duel each other. Then, rescue Luna with Dean, and send those two away too. Or kill them. Or something.

How would Draco also feature in this story? His presence is kinda inevitable, even from your bunny. I mean, his aunt is playing Hit Witch, his father is currying favour with LV, his mother is probably in the same boat as Snape, and there's still the whole deal with the Elder Wand...

Draco could take Luna and run for it.

You know the recent retcon in DC comics? This reminds me of the new Batman story arc.
Instead of Bruce Wayne surviving his parents' deaths, he died, his father becoming Batman and his mum, the new Joker.

    This. For fuck's sake, *this*.

You're probably right; I can't imagine it could be *worse* than it sounds.

Kinda like herpes - as bad as it surely, it's still way better than AIDS.

And that comment just screams for this: :nyan:

I've had this one plot bunny spinning around in my head for about a year now, that pretty much came from a short dialogue exchange that popped into my head while I was trying to re-outline Sentinel after I realized I had no idea where I wanted to go with it.

Basically, we always see a lot of stories about Harry being in the Dresdenverse or something similar to that. What if Voldemort was there too?

But I figure I should work on my other stories first. :|

That sounds kickass. Most HP/DF crossovers either stick Harry into the DF universe (most common) or try to badly merge both universes together. Displacing more than one character is something pretty awesome, especially when one is Voldemort.. That said, pretty much all of the Senior Council is incredibly powerful. Any one of them might not be able to stand up to Voldemort alone (though that's arguable) but all of them together? They'd crush him like a bug.
