One I recently reread, a really old one. Not actually abandoned, since the author finished it. But I dearly wish he'd written the sequel he perfectly set up. Harry Potter and the Masters by Pose. Perfect set up for a sequel but he never wrote anything after he finished this on, which was back in 2003.

It's worth noting that there have been other, unsanctioned spin-offs as well. (Miranda asked the author not to post it to ff.net).

Wow so many of my old favorites have been mentioned already such as The Elementals series by Raven Dragonclaw and of course the greatness that devolved into A Magical World by Miranda Flairgold. Though for A Magical World I actually think there may be a bit of hope because if those of you who read it as it was posted she took a year and a half somewhere in the middle of A Second Chance at Life and again in Changes In A Time Of War.

How about Blackened Sunrise Revised by The Itch of course I really mean the original which has een less of a chance then the revised since Itch ran off into otaku fangirl land sometime back in 2005.

Shades of Gray by Shadow Rebirth which in a rewrite phase became Atra Regnum

Bloody Skies by Toki Mirage I know a lot of it is cliche but I am horribly addicted to Toki's writing style for some god-awful reason.

I like Atra Regnum, but maybe that was because it was one of the first fics I've ever read (haven't reread it since, no updates). Most of DLP doesn't like it, though... dunno, sticking HP into generic!Fantasyverse? Eh.

I go through moods and those were my favorites back in the day. I'm also a :fire fangirl but I am not going to wave that flag in your face with the other fics I would mention.

Even though it's already been mentioned, it bears repeating: The Stranger Trilogy. SO. MUCH.

Also, I agree with BWP part 3. I wish Chris Widger would update Grey Maiden more often, but eh.

Stranger is decidedly average on a re-read. Just sayin'.

Child of Mercy was a great one. Fayr Warning had a poetic, nebulous style I liked a lot.
Now, look if this thread doesn't die soon I'm gonna get depressed. You reminded me that my Alerts list probably is in the fifth digits but I only see new chapters twice a week.
You fuckers I'm past melancholy and looking for a bottle to forget I ever saw this thread. You fucking beer promoters!

I started to read through the first Grey Maiden book, and couldn't make it past chapter 5. The Hermione and Harry interactions are some of the worst I've ever read, as well as very poor and severely overblown House Rivalries that were severely inconsistent.

I stopped reading after some random pet peeves got thrown in my face, such lines like "Light family" and "All Gryffindors are Light wizards" and "Galileo was a wizard." And Snape going apeshit on Harry for no reason, the guy knows Occlumency after all, so yelling in all caps multiple times is :facepalm But perhaps more than that, it just seems like every single element in the story is forced.

But, the author has written that the story is being rewritten, although the early chapters which supposedly are already done have not given me much hope. But for everyone waiting for him to update or something, I will say that he is still active. He wrote me a long reply to me a few minutes ago to the reviews I left him.

And the Stranger Trilogy, I thought it was pretty mediocre on first reading, and every time I've tried to reread it, I can't.

The Grey Maiden series gets slowly better as it progresses, but I never read past book 3, because it's still not good.

Only Enemies by leave this world

Probably the best Harry/Bellatrix story that I have ever read.

The Grey Maiden series was pretty amazing to me when I just got into reading fanfiction; it was one of the first largely AU stories I read, one that was different enough (and many of the tropes weren't so overdone in my mind) that I enjoyed it, despite its faults. Unfortunately, it doesn't age well; it's rather like the R series in that regard. By the time I'd returned to it some years later, it couldn't hold my interest.

Another of that type is S'TarKan's NoFP. While I recall looking forward to reading updates on phoenixsong when I first got into the fandom (back when it still updated), I've not even bothered with the last several chapters. The same is true with most of Ruskbyte's stories, though I'd still love to read how his Culture crossover plays out.

A few on my list that have not yet been mentioned:

    • nonjon started a badass spy thriller!Harry (don't ask for more details)
    • Deadwoodpecker's spooky post-final-battle mystery (anyone remember it? She took it down and I can't even remember the title)
    • BajaB's Dark Marauder sequel
    • Heather Sinclair's Gentleman Usher sequel
    • Joe's All My Love To Long Ago
    • Jeconais's actually managing something besides campy schlock

    This.

If I remember right it was a Black Lagoon crossover with epic potential.

I'd love to see Joe continue his Post-DH fic, actually. Never saw that fic by Ella, I guess I entered the fandom too late.

The post-DH mystery that Persp mentioned was superb. It was the one DWP story that I got really excited about - and then she canned it. I seem to recall that she wasn't fully happy with it but planned to repost after edits/rewrites. Shame it never happened.

I thought it was more crack. Sure, interesting to read one time as a gimmick but from its setup I never expected some real story here.

I felt like Only Enemies got a little repetitive as it went on: Just one huge epic action scene after another, with not much in the way of plot to string them together.
