That's incredibly useful to know. SOmething I probably should of known.

What would be nice now, would be to have the same functionality for threads inside the specific forums.

Also, maybe just single clicking it, for ease of use. It's not as if I accidentally click on the lightning bolt.

I'd like it if the forum could automatically replace the string 'could of' with 'could have'. It would make every single one of Ellisande's posts like 30% less cringe-worthy.

DLP needs a purge. I know it'd probably be a lot of work for the admins, but having a review of the recent posting histories of various active members and making a decision (leave them, warn them, or ban them) would be very welcome.

Perhaps. I'd say that the community's response is sufficient. Idiots are weeded out by the group at large - it generally takes a lot to get banned here. I think that's a good thing, to be honest, as it forces tough skin and prevents the mods from going down a slippery slope. Just sayin.

People like 4arms, smarties2, and monkeynuts seem to end up banned after not too long - or they otherwise fall silent. I'm not sure that a purge is really warranted. I usually put the exceptionally persistent trolls and retards on my ignore list until they're taken care of. It seems to work.

That's not a purge. Killing everyone that dun goofed, that's a purge.

Preemptively screening every fucking shit post is the worst idea ever. Do I look like I have time for that? Do you want to wait 5 hours for every post you write to appear on the board?

You seem to have misunderstood what I meant. What I meant was:

A mod/admin would investigate the recent post history of any given user. Lets say...

    http://forums.darklordpotter.net/search.php?searchid=1888199

Looking at just the first page on default settings (50 posts) shows that this person posts a lot of one line posts (that take no effort to post) that contribute very little to any of the threads they post in. The mod/admin would then take this recent history into account, and then make a decision to leave the poster alone/warn them to pick the standard of their posting up, or ban their retarded ass.

Everyone has noticed that there has been an influx of terrible posters, and people have been advising other DLPers to make use of the ignore function. I'm not asking for some kind of voting system where after someone is put on a certain number of ignore lists they get banned.

But there is a definite correlation between how many ignore lists a poster is on and how shitty a poster they are. This could warrant a more indepth look on whether or not they should get banned for being spastics.

Seeing the recent history of a poster is no problem. You can do it, too. I think you did, in fact.

Being able to see on how many ignore lists someone is would be a nice feature. pointing out terrible posts is a job for users who read the posts though.

Some way to chapter threads. I'm thinking of WBA here. It'd be cool if there was some kind of system that allowed for chapter navigation. A contents at the start of the thread that the author could update as s/he added more.

Thought about that too, how about giving the author the ability to tag single posts as new chapters and automatically attaching them as the second, third etc. post in the thread?

The author posts a new chapter (say post #20). A duplicate of that post is attached to the first post without actually deleting post #20 so that the comments don't lose their structure.

A simple thing that can be done is that put an option to see the posts of a specific user (or just the thread starter) and none others.

Just add at the end of mysql query "WHERE username='$poster'".

So anyone who wants can read just the first post and replies by the author, if he wants to read in one go and not miss anything. Or he can also read with comments if he wishes to.

I know this isn't the perfect thing but it is simple.

    I prefer simple.

Automated would be nice, but it's entirely possible now. Editing the original post with a contents (links to new chapter posts) would take about five minutes, if you really wanted to.

What I'd like to see is vaguely related - some external clue as to what chapter the story's up to. Could just be a tag that adds a little number symbol next to where Tags, Attachments, etc appear now, just above the star rating, so that there's some way to discern a difference between 'updated thread' and 'updated story'.

Make that little number clickable, taking you to the new chapter without having to ride through all the comments, and now we're talking. But I suppose this'd make chapter-posts being different to response-posts, aka the original idea, necessary.

The 2 day limit on editing posts would have to be removed for that to work.

Ah, this I did not know. Still, if there's a read/review/communally-beta-this intention to the WbA, should there be a 2-day limit on editing thread-starter posts anyway? What if it takes 3 days for a retarded error to be pointed out?

Then it will exist forever. I prefer the two-day limit, because it means that the Hall of Shame is untouched by backpedals.

Didn't we already have a big discussion about the 'linking new chapters easily' thing, multiple times? I don't recall the outcome.

Not all posts by the author will be chapters though. You'll have replies to comments and reposted segments that have been reworked.

I assume that it would only apply to WBA and only to the OP. A wide-scale change in the amount of time given to edit posts would result in a shitload of backpedals all around.
