I like the idea and I'm envisioning something akin to the user photo albums I see on other vb forums where the picture is in an album and below it you can see the comments for that picture and then there would be a button to take you to the next picture/chapter.

Also in regards to the library I'm of the opinion that there should be another list for good fics that just aren't and likely never will be completed (you know as an example of good ideas, etc), of course this wouldn't apply to oneshots, or WbA. Of course I realize this could become quite time-consuming so...

Anyway I posted some of my other suggestions here...

It may have devolved into a rant though...

Someone mentioned that it would be good to have sub-threads in the WBA.While a good idea if the review thread is not further divided or some sort of a heading is not given it would to difficult to realize which reviews are for which chapter. Also we would need to be backing out and in to alternate between the story and the reviews

An alternate to this would be to have something like a letter 'A' icon similar to the lightning icons that we have that denote that new posts are present in a forum. We could still keep the lighting icon simply put the other icon next to it.

Let the creator of the thread have the option to light up the icon to denote that he has posted a new chapter of the story or an improvement to the old one.

While almost all of those would be appreciated, I can't help but think we're trying to turn WbA into an ff.net replacement, only we get to see updates a little earlier. Most of these have no bearing on the feedback or helping the author, which is the entire point of WbA.

Quickly read through this, and didn't think I saw it anywhere:

A subscribe to thread button. Sometimes, I want to subscribe to a thread, just in case it updates in the future. On older threads, where near everything that's currently up has been dissected, there isn't much to post, and I reckon quite a few people (who ain't trolling) only necro so as to get alerts when a thread updates.

    Also, this:

I just had a thought on WbA; making stories easier to follow for the readers seems to be a common point raised, so here's a suggested system.
-Let the OP of their thread in WbA tag posts as 'chapters' - say, add another icon at the bottom of each post that lets them tag a post retrospectively, and a tick box when the OP is posting anything in their thread.

-Change the colour/image of the picture next to the thread for around a week if there's a new chapter. That way you can tell, at a glance, whether the author has updated as opposed to the thread being bumped by a commenter.

-Add a 'following' button that will notify the follower by email/alert only when a tagged chapter is posted.

-Optional: Add an option to display only tagged chapters at the top of the page.

The benefits of such a system is that it's pretty tidy; there are no big changes to thread layout, the tagging system is unobtrusive, and intuitive on both ends. People who prefer to read WbA normally can with no effort. Using the 'new posts in thread' picture to display whether there's a new chapter or not means there's no ragefest whenever some poor schmuck posts a comment; that's a huge improvement on the current system in itself, because as it is right now people can be dissuaded from commenting on a story to avoid bumping the thread. The tagging posts option is also very flexible - the author could use it for important messages and such.

Drawbacks are that it's initially fiddly for authors to tag their work if there's a display tagged posts only option - but they can just as easily ignore the feature for past updates and only tag new chapters; that would focus on letting people who are following the story be notified.

Of course, that's disregarding the issue of whether allowing people to hide posts that aren't part of the story will reduce feedback. I don't know the answer to that - but a potential solution is showing tagged chapters and all other posts with thumbs up.

Other than that, sending alerts for only tagged posts will greatly improve the subscription option for readers, so that they aren't notified whenever a comment is posted.

I'm not sure how this is a better solution, to be honest. Is there something in threaded mode that I'm missing?

By making the WbA content more accessible to readers, particularly new readers who haven't been keeping up with the thread, you're going to end up with more replies.

I love the idea of the author being able to edit the first post to link to chapters. That's a great idea. I've seen the same on Alternate history forums and the effect is a huge timesaver.

I think this might be the best idea in the thread.

I might get banned for suggesting this but hey you asked for what I would like, so I think it would be cool if a football/soccer thread was started, I am sure there are some football fans here and since the EPL and other leagues are about to start, I think it would be awesome if the DLP football fans could have a place to discuss the matches after weekend games and how the teams are doing.Anyway just a suggestion, I am not Trolling, just consider it.

Why would you get banned for suggesting it? There was a World Cup thread, a Champions League thread and loads of others. I don't know how popular an EPL thread would be, but feel free to make one in Real Life Discussion.

Well people have been banned for anything considered to be trolling by other members, so yeah I was hesitant.I did not know there was a champions league thread, guess I will participate in it when it starts, anyway since I am somewhat of a newbie, I don't think me starting the thread would go that well, so perhaps some of the older members or even one of the moderators could start one.

We're not going to hold your hand for the duration of your stay here, but as long as you are reasonably intelligent, your posts are probably not going to considered trolling. When you start a thread, it doesn't matter whether you're a newbie, it matters whether you're doing it intelligently (right subforum, correct title that is not all caps and indicative of the topic of discussion) and with reason (wanting to discuss soccer leagues is a good reason, wanting to discuss your incestuous relationship with your cousin isn't).

Considering what you've seen so far, do you think no one posting in it is the worst possible outcome? ;)
