It's amusing and black comedy all at once. I like it.

 

Equestria Daily confirms that Season 2 will be coming at September-ish. It'll start off with a two-parter again, like last time.

While we wait for MLP, we could watch this, this, and this. The mane characters and their neuroses. =O

 

So yeah, new plot idea I had.

The premise is a Dresden/MLP crossover where Celestia is a goddess (along with Luna), who created Equestria as her demesne in the Nevernever, using the Elements of Harmony as a focus tool to help control her power. Fast forward to the present and the Elements of Harmony have been stolen by a branch of the Red Court, who are now laying siege to the country using them.

Celestia is tied up just countering them and as such can't do much to stop the siege. So she calls on Luna to go stop them, only she doesn't really trust her enough to let her go by herself. So Twilight goes too. Only Twilight isn't powerful enough to fight Luna by herself, if it comes to that, so she calls in a debt someone in the White Council owes to her, and one Harry Dresden gets called upon to go help out. I imagine this being set just prior to Dead Beat, with the Council readying its forces for the attack on the Red King, so no Wardens are on hand to deal with the situation, thus Harry gets the short end of the stick once again.

That's the starting point of the fic, but here's a little backstory I think helps merge the two series together. Equestria is situated pretty close to the real world, in Nevernever terms, and thus somewhat close to the Faerielands. Back before Celestia assumed control over the area the place was used frequently as a battleground for the two Faerie Courts. Then Celestia and Luna turn up, with Celestia wielding the Elements of Harmony, and the forces of the two Queens are forced back.

Rather than waste troops on a middling goddess and some weak ponies, they decide to just ignore them and move to different pastures for their battles. This is partly helped along by a deal made by Celestia to the two Queens, basically saying that she's there only by their grace and, if not directly subservient, at least below them in the hierarchy of the Nevernever. Thus the reason she's only Princess of Equestria: Only the Sidhe royalty can hold the title of Queen. This back story also establishes the Elements of Harmony as a weapon to be used, with the whole Friendship is Magic thing only having been added after Luna got locked away in the Moon (and Celestia finding the prophecy of her return).

The characters, in my mind, would be based on canon, though the ponies would of course have to be taken in new directions considering how there are not Red Court vampires in the MLP universe. I have Twilight planned out as being mostly pacifistic at the start, since she's never really met anything that couldn't be negotiated with (bar that Hydra), but gradually becoming more and more badass as she goes along. I think this fits her inner self-confidence/outer insecurities quite well. Her skills would revolve around telekinesis and transfiguration, mostly.

Luna would be the foil to this, with her being haughty, arrogant and prone to large displays of her power to hide her own insecurities relating to her social problems (the whole 'I just wanted to have friends!' thing). Her skills would mostly be illusions, but since she's a goddess she'd be pretty capable in all aspects of magic.

Harry is, of course, Harry.

What do you think? It's not going to be anywhere near as grimdark as my last plot idea, and I quite like the idea of Harry going on an epic quest across the Nevernever, though the time dilation thing would have to be worked out in full.
