This. It makes perfect sense to use Jamie or Jaime, despite the fact I have a fat cow of a cousin named Jamie.

Don't do this. When DLPers read an HP story, it's a given that they envision themselves as the protagonist. The result would be reading about your character self making out with Sirius. Just no.

    QFT.

There are still plenty of floral names, though the quality goes way down after Rose and Lily. JKR used flower names more than some realize. Pansy, Lavender, Ambrosius (Flume), Magnolia Crescent, Wisteria (Court?), Privet Drive, Myrtle, Narcissus (Narcissa), Poppy, Violet, Bluebell, Hana (Hannah?), Daphne (laurel tree), the yew and holly and elder trees (although that's much more about the wood than the flowers), and of course Fleur.

There may be more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. Oh, and when Dumbledore comes to pick up Harry at the beginning of HBP, he compliments Petunia by saying her "agapanthus are flourishing." Agapanthus are also known as Lily of the Valley, and are symbolically the flower of love, but also of celibacy. So as I've said before, Dumbledore verbally bitch-slapped the Dursleys there.

I saw one a while back where they named their daughter Daisy Potter. No seriously.

Not to sound like a woman, but I am partial to the way Camille Potter sounds. Never seen it used though.

Also there was this Hathor Potter in one xmen crossover. Probably the pairing is Wolverine, which will most likely result in crazy animal sex.

Just had an idea though I'm pretty certain DLP would find distasteful. Harry Potter ala-Mad Men. Post-DH Essentially, Harry would be Don Draper, Ginny would be Betty, etc. Pretty much it would play out as Harry is fucking a ton of chicks on the side in the Auror Department and his philandering ruins his life, marriage, and family. Biggest issue with this would be the lack of action, as well lack of an antagonist.

The biggest issue would be the lack of plot, which would make the story becomes crap. It will work as a crack-fic, though, I can't see it works any other way.

Also, all the talk about fem!Harry remind me of this. Honestly, I want more of Sara Potter.

Considering Hathor had the head (and sometimes whole body) of a cow, I'd say animal sex is a given.

Not really a plot bunny, but the idea of Harry being a dinosaur animagus popped into my head the other day.

Well, while it's nothing to base a whole story around (though others have based stories on flimsier ideas, to be sure), I don't doubt that many a fanfic reader/writer has imagined Harry with a Utah Raptor animagus form, gutting unsuspecting death eaters left and right, as they loose their bowels in fear.

    At least once.

It could make a one-shot. Where Harry eats Voldemort after the third task. But there is very little that could make it a decent fic.

I could swear I've read a Harry Potter crossover with Calvin and Hobbes of all things that included Calvin being a dinosaur animagus.

I came up with an idea where the Ministry of magic actually does something about Voldemort, where a special team of aurors specifically trained to kill Voldemort are sent after him and try to take him down.In short the ministry believed Dumbledore about Riddle not being dead and during his disappearance they have been analyzing everything they know about him, hence the training of a select few using this analysis to kill him.

It can be a one shot or a full story on its own.I dont think I have enough skill right now to write this and have people actually like it , so if anyone wants to try the hand at it be my guest, honestly a just want to see the idea and how it would look like.

So is the idea good or bad

It could work, though personally I would have them utterly fail at the task. Voldemort was a once in a generation talent and apparently no one else has even come close to his level of skill since. Training a bunch of people to fight a person like that is something I could see the Ministry do if they were to believe Dumbledore, but as with all Ministry actions it would not quite live up to expectations.

So yeah, have this crack team of Voldemort-killers go out on the hunt for him, but also have Harry lying in wait for when Voldemort really gets taken down.

This inspired me for this idea. A team of Aurors and wizard experts is sent to an Albanian forest to inspect strange disappearances. When they're there, they feel like someone is watching them and quickly become more paranoid about everything around them. And then one of them is killed, but they're not sure who did it. Was it possible unseen enemy or maybe it's one of them?

I see it as a short story in a horror style, with a final twist reveal that one of two surviving wizards of this expedition is Quirinus Quirrell, now possessed by Voldemort.

Exactly what I was thinking but they could put up quite a fight,if weak canon harry could hold his own in book four, I think this guys should at least be able to give him a run for his money.

As for your Voldemort comment thats exactly how I have always pictured him but most fics end up just making fun of him and turning him into a generic villain, they never show us his genius brilliant side only that he loves torture and killing.

@Celestin I dont know how to do the thumbs up thing but I like your idea so thumbs up.Think you can write it?

The Best Seven Years by Blu Taiger. It's by far my nine year old's favorite fanfiction story.

I've wrote about this quite a few times, probably in this thread as well.

I'm really caught up on Paffy's Behind Blue Eyes. It's a story whose basic premise had enormous potential, I think. Let's expand on it, and review as necessary for those plebeians among us who did not plow through despite Harry's increasingly Beta-male behavior:

In the story, Harry was a stick-like, terrified boy of 15 who had come to terms with mortality. Post-OOTP, so the cliches are all in full force. He, for whatever reason, decides to either run away or go for a long walk, both common plot devices. He meets a street rat, for lack of a better term, a girl named Kat, Kathyrn, 'Kittie'. She's not exactly homeless in the usual sense of the word, but she is a creature of the street who sleeps over with friends (think shady Meth addicts, though I don't think this was explicitly mentioned) whenever she can. In every sense of the description, she's the literary equivalent of a Suicide Girl model. If you're under 18, don't google this.

Now, the author does a nice job setting up the contrasting backgrounds, the relationship between them, but ultimately falters because she's catering for an audience that enjoys white weddings on the cliffs of dover at the end of stories. Kitty stops being a hardassed, smoking, drugdealing, street fighting bitch and turns into upper class Mary Sue.

We can do better. If you haven't noticed, the OC is a muggle. Muggle OC are infinitely more interesting in my opinion, simply because they force fresh premises that comes out of a lack of being magical. You can't stay in Hogwarts for too long, you're forced into the muggle world (and I'll say any day that Harry in the muggle world can be far more interesting than Harry in the magic world, especially in this tired era of fanfiction), and you're forced into plots that don't hinge on just Voldemort, Albus Dumbledore, and the various issues that can seem quite petty and meaningless to the average Muggle.

Perhaps it's the fact that I've grown up a bit since I started reading and writing, but I wouldn't mind seeing an older Harry in this scenario as well. An 18+ Harry who has graduated Hogwarts, who has never really found the power within Dumbledore bandied about. And Voldemort, well, perhaps he's dead already, perhaps he's biding his time, making an appearance later on in the story. Harry is quite alone, isolated, and at 18 he's not really interested in staying with a dysfunctional, or by this time collapsed Order of the Phoenix.

Perhaps the Ministry is horribly infiltrated with Death Eaters, or like the Order, dysfunctional. So he hides in the Muggle World, surviving, perhaps training, looking for some sort of magical inspiration that was promised by the prophecy. In this world, perhaps he finds himself a victim of a thug's attack. Maybe the rioters and looters today. Ironic, one of the most promising wizards in the british magical world, reduced to a cowering heap by a bunch of thugs wielding pipes and knives.

And here comes our hero perhaps. The OC muggle. And he begins a quest into the muggle underworld. Drug dealers, meth addicts (meth addicts make wonderful characters. Ask me how I know.), Harry falling for his savior while secretly wondering if she's a prostitute when she goes out to that tatooed drug dealers house every few days, looking guilty. Careful Harry, don't get jealous. Makes for great tension.

And just when things seem bleak or boring in this dark world, or when Harry and his OC friend find themselves totally fucked, Harry whips out that wand he's been trying so hard not to use in front of her, and wows her. Great moment, and you can bet readers will be wading through chapters and chapters to see Harry show her he's actually a pretty badass dude.

You can make the ending however you like. Perhaps, it's the moment when he resolves some muggle conflict. Or maybe when he makes significant progress in finding that inner power. Whatever you do, don't end it with defeating Voldemort. This is not that story.

I'm telling you, it's got the makings of a great fanfic. Just needs an enthusiastic author.
