I'm looking for a specific fic I read years ago from what I remember was pretty good though my eyes may be clouded with nostalgia.

From what I remember fic was about how Hermione in the final battle is sent to an alternate universe with no way to get home.

Harry spends years trying to find her later discovering she was sent to another universe and proceeds to search the multi-verse for her with I think it was a necklace that could send them both home.

Some other random thing I could remember was:

    • That the alternate universes randomly would at a random time reject some one who wasn't native to them sending them to another.
    • Whenever Harry was in a universe were there was another version of him he would become an invisible shade that only ghosts could see.

    • One of the universes Harry travels to is one were he became a Dark Lord.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give, I got a bad feeling I might have read it on Portkey with the bugs on that sight I pray that's not the case. I've tried going through the library but without knowing the stories name I have had no luck.

Never mind I found it was on Portkey and has recently been re uploaded to Fanfiction.net, here's a link if anyone's interested.

I must admit its not as good as I remember and is pretty slow starting.

I literally had to stop at the first two words.

    Why is that comma there?

Okay, so I read on a bit and it isn't horrible, plus beyond that stellar example above it seems readable. The first chapter was too full of angst for my tastes though, so I passed on it.

Oh, I like this. It is actually the second fic I ever read, and while the standards of fanfiction have increased since then, I've always really enjoyed it... despite it being pretty depressing. I reread it recently, actually.

Also, OP; there's a WIP sequel on Portkey, if you haven't seen it.

Yup - that's how I've always seen it.

    "Yeah, Luna?" not "Yeah Luna?"

I'm not too sure, but seeing something like that without the comma is grammatically incorrect, right?

Yes. Generally, names should be preceded by commas in speech.

What's wrong with what you quoted? It looks perfectly fine to me. I believe I've seen and heard that there's no need for a comma there, and that the natural caesura of speech and/or reading would accomplish it, but there's no way - especially in the case of a fanfic - that I'd let that kind of thing bother me, let alone be the "grammar mistake" on which I called the author.

Agreed. I really liked this when I first read it. Years ago and on Portkey, back when I was in a post-H/G, H/Hr-is-the-OTP phase. Mercifully, I'm past that now, but in those days I would check Portkey daily to see the new H/Hr installments.

While this story is (or was) fairly original at the time, I'd have to say it's not Lorien's best work. The sequel, when I was still reading it, was better, in that the story focused on the alternate!Hermione. I should go read that and see if it's progressed...

Anyway, Lorien is a talented writer, and the mechanics are good for all her stories that I've read. If you like H/Hr, I'd suggest -

    - Resistance by lorien829 - post-HBP, Hermione POV, complete and goes through the final battle between Harry and Voldemort, a very good plot and some surprisingly dark aspects, but if you can't stomach Hermione being as much the hero as Harry then you'd best skip it. I happened to love it. Also, Ron is very well written.

    - Eighth by lorien829 - post-HBP, but moves post-Voldemort and deals with Horcrux issues. I really enjoyed this one as well.

    - Shadow Walker by lorien829 - the sequel to Shadow Walks, and what I've read is good.

    - Magic Never Dies by Lynney - post-HBP through the final battle with Voldemort. Some angst IIRC, but I also remember really liking the story.

    - HP & the Last Horcrux by Full Pensieve - post-HBP (?) and finally finished even though FP's RL illness resurfaced, causing the ending to be rushed. FP also offered alternate endings, so YMMV. It was gritty and dark but I thought it was great.

    - HP & the Years of Rebellion by Full Pensieve - post-OotP, and it's what I'd call "The HP story that had the most potential to be fucking epic, but which we know will never be finished." FP not only got sick IRL, but he's come out and said that HBP killed his desire to write HP. That's too bad, because his world-building and well-rounded OCs were magnificent. In light of today's standards, a lot of this story might seem cliched and tired, but it was not only refreshing and new when he wrote it, but the writing itself is very good.

    - As Yet Untitled by bellerophon30 - post-DH, progresses logically from canon, and the H/Hr is not even remotely the focus of the story. Harry and Co. are reluctantly pretty damn ruthless in this.

    - Harry Potter & the Three Travelers by shlamboozle - post-HBP Horcrux Hunt with a twist: muthafuckin' Hagrid.

    - HP & the Orb of Slytherin by mcjazzman32 - post-HBP and may send your cliche-o-meter off the charts, but I liked it at the time. YMMV.

Some other authors who've written some worthwhile H/Hr stories -

    - Goldy - especially All Nights and Lines Crossed
    - Demosthenes
    - Kaze

There are others, of course, but that's from off the top of my head and my FFn favorites list.

I'm hardly an English teacher, but I was under the assumption comma's signify a break - a pause. I'm not sure about you guys, but when I greet my friends I don't say, "Hi -pause- Luna." It's a lot more fluid than that, using a comma seems stilted.

I suppose I must be wrong, however. Jormungandr's example is something I'd have to agree with.

To be honest I've seen and read through much worse, but there's nothing that annoys me more than (perceived, in this case) spelling errors early in a story, or even worse in the summary. It just seems above and beyond retarded.
