Is that site actually still active? I mean, sure, it might be the first place the uninformed might be looking for fanfic, but you'd think that people might start looking where the greatest traffic is - which I'm fairly certain would lead to DLP fairly quickly. Between having the largest C2 on fanfiction.net and some highly reviewed and acclaimed stories on our site (or at least enough traffic on the bad stories to pull notice (see every time MoR is brought up)), you'd think that a researcher for an article like that might have glimpsed the site.

The typical journalist doesn't do a terribly great job with internet research. An uncreative search attempt, like Googling "best harry potter fanfiction" (without quotes) doesn't give me a DLP result until page 3, and it's a result from 2006 of all things. YMMV - Google's search results vary by location and by person, sometimes.

"harry potter fanfiction forum" (without quotes) yields a DLP result on page 2, which isn't bad but isn't the first thing a journalist would see.

I agree with blazzano. Mugglenet's fanfiction site was the first one I'd stumbled on, and while Mugglenet itself is considered one of the stronger sites on Potter-related subjects, its collection of fanfiction was (is?) nothing wowie compared to harrypotterfanfiction and ffnet, which are where I went next.

To be honest, I had pretty much ignored the mentions and links of DLP on ffnet until I started looking for Dark!Harry fics nearly two years after I started reading fanfiction.

Uh, I'd probably use my recs engine. :nyan:

    Alright, I'm done.

Besides that, I'll simply quote what I wrote in regards to fanfiction on XKCD:

Probably a necro, but I found a 'lying low at Lupin's' fic...

All that aside, I thought that this was a pretty balanced article, even with the emphasis on slash, considering the others which have been written.

    You're 16.
Go freak out about prom dresses and that guy sitting across from you in biology class who may or may not have smiled at you, and leave the e-thugging to those of us who have graduated high school.

pssh. Once the glocks and gold teeth start coming out, e-thugging just starts being a let-down on potential. Like only getting a handjob from the head cheerleader who had to quit cheering because her sports bra just wasn't containing as necessary; one just expects more with those tools.

Teardrop tats below our eyes. Signs singed into reflexive memory. Curbstomp boots. No regrets. No muthafuckin regrets.

Choose your own adventure: Monster Cody and his crew wants to fuck yo' momma. You:

    1) Cry like the bitch you are
    2) Offer him your sister instead
    3) Fuck you and all your dead homies
    3) Waddup jigga? Homies go gangslit da muthafuckin' Crip

(Yeah, I'm whitey and 40s and haven't been to the LA ghettos in 15 years, so I have no idea if people still speak this way).
