So, Voldemort should just shoot Harry with a gun? :p

Don't get started on this, because you can't prove it. A practised thought is all it takes to conjure a shield. Thinking is slightly faster a reflexive action, because a reflexive action requires thought followed by movement. Thus the shield would happen first.

Of course a trained marksman could take down a school student who has only been using his magic for a few years. Thats a stupid comparison to make. Its as redundant as saying that a trained wizard is better than a half trained wizard.

Pair a trained wizard against a trained marksman and if the marksman can even draw his gun I'd be surprised.

Bah. Those quick-draw artists can be insanely fast and accurate, blowing through all the shots in a revolver in less than a second. And, that's while also actually hitting the targets.

Considering the general level of performance you see out of the death eaters (and the dismissive arrogance shown toward muggle things in general by even non-death eaters), I don't have a hard time believing that a lot of them would find themselves full of holes before they finished scoffing.

Of course, you can only surprise any one group of people so many times...

We've seen from the books that it's a very low percentage of wizards who can whip out even a basic Protego AT All, much less at the speed of thought.

Yes, by that same logic, there aren't that many quick-draw artists out there either. These muggle versus wizard debates =

My main issue with this idea is that, as Warlocke said, the main wizarding populace seem to have issue using most Defense spells to begin with, not to mention non-verbally. Such as in HBP, when the twins mention to Harry that most Ministry workers cannot cast a Shield Charm.

I can see this debate derailing the thread. So, trying to get back on the topic.

I fuckin' hate the name 'Rasputin'. I don't even know it's meaning but I hate it.

Are you referring to that story with 'Harry Salazar Rasputin Riddle'? Unfortunately, the memory of that fic is forever etched into my mind.

Rasputin was a resilient bastard, and I read a good fic where he was referenced as a source of knowledge of horcruxes, but naming Harry that... :facepalm

Screw naming Harry after him, base Harry off him instead.

I've many pet peeves but the one that comes to mind at this moment would be Luscious Malfoy. It's not funny. It's not cool. To see it as a typo is bad but if some writers, who I won't mention, try to actually make that work it sickens me to the point of nausea.

On a side note, if I ever need a hooker name I know exactly what it'll be.

Luscious Malfoy seriously annoys me, but at the same time I really can't help but laugh.

Another peeve is when authors seem to think that the day after somebody is turned by a werewolf, the whole world is immediately aware.

Seeing as (to my knowledge) you only get infected if the wolf bites/scratches you during wolf-form, wouldn't you instantly turn also, due to the moon?

Not really sure, actually. Though if it is down to a disease, said disease would most likely need time to get into your blood and start turning you. I doubt it would be instantaneous, anyway. And I also doubt that everyone in wizarding Britain would immediately know that you were a werewolf.

No, you don't turn because you're supposed to turn at a specific time. Since that time has already passed, you only turn next month.

Question: Is werewolf turns because of moon or it happens at same time and moon just there?

Another question what would happen if a were. lands to The Moon? stay as wolf? become a spacewolf? or what?

"This is small step for me but big step for werepupies back at home." :nyan:

Lycanthropy is bound to the lunar cycle and the time that the moon sets. We know that this must be true because werewolves exist all around the world (a safe assumption) and they turn when the moon rises (another safe assumption). Since the moon rises at different times in all parts of the world, the curse is probably linked to the relative position of the moon, which means that leaving Earth ought to be a cure.

What if you put a bunch of werewolves on a plane and had it chase the sun every full moon? Would they avoid the lunar cycle that forced the change, or would you get...Werewolves On A Plane?

And more importantly, would the movie star Samuel L. Jackson?
