Maybe that's a little picky. I would say that as long as the incantation sounds suitable, is actual latin and doesn't go over two words they're probably fine. it's when people go over that or make up some crap incantation that it peeves me.

A few foreign words is okay, but no more than one sentence. Also, if we are to know what is being said try to have it explained within the story instead of using a bunch of bloody footnotes.

Writing like this makes my blood boil....

Excerpt: " "Shut up brat." He told his godson.

The name-calling was all a part of their close relationship and it had been how they expressed that they did indeed care for one another."
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It sort of reminds me of the original version of blaerunner where Harrison Ford tells you how to interpret every scene. This make me aprreciate every author who chooses to use descriptive writing and lets their readers infer on the intangibles of the story.

    Also I hate crossovers!

Undercover slash. Like when an author builds up this nice het relationship, and then Bam! out of fucking nowhere man sechs. No build up, no time to forewarning. I've only found one like that so far and it still makes me seethe to this day. Except not really.

I don't actually seethe. I just added that in for dramatic purposes.

    Lulz are strong.

    Cannot compute.

Though joke would have been funnier by far if I wrote this after that debacle.

One of my main pet peeves is when rape is the entire plot (i.e. Harry got raped and is now gay. Or Fleur got raped and preggers, which kickstarted her relationship with blah.)

I just don't like rape. Oh and text speek, OOC, excessive characters bashing, mary sues ect.

Until I looked it up just now, I honestly didn't know that.

It begs the question though, who did Neville see die? I'm pretty sure his parents aren't dead ... or was that just considered close enough?

Edit: Nevermind, I just went and looked it up. His grandfather.

A rather recently discovered pet peeve of mine, generic transfigurations. X started to grow/srink and change into Y.

Sometimes I can excuse it, like if it's a match changing into a needle or a similarly simple transfiguration, but I just like it when authors actually describe the changes X is going through to change into Y in just a bit more detail.

Arid, Is this because of me? Because I remember you saying something similar when I showed you my Work in Progress.

This. Surprise slash jumping out like a fuckin' jack-in-the-box is unbearable. Paradise Lost was like that for me.

Paradise Lost is hardly surprise slash.

Besides, I liked it a lot even considering the "slash". The last few chapters were pretty epic - I'm actually disappointed by the pairing, because I'd much rather have them as antagonists. Harry being a massively powerful dark wizard is pretty awesome.

When you say Paradise Lost, I think of that Adam/Lucifer.
