DLP is where I go when I want to laugh, be entertained, and read good fanfiction. Though recently, I seem to end up facepalming.

I will admit, I feel a greater 'connection' (though that word is weird) with people on IRC, but there are some of you who never really get on IRC who I still consider a 'friend'. God, it's weird referring to people on the internet like that. I don't know why more of you don't get on IRC though. ;__; It's seriously awesome. Another thing...there are a LOT of lurkers on IRC. It's kind of creepy, actually.

The new better IRC is Google Hangout, though. So much lulz. Hearing you guys talk out loud really does make me like you dudes more.

All those random thoughts aside, DLP is Harry Potter.

It's also where she met Taure.

Well, yes. But I didn't want to go into some ridiculously sappy post about how DLP changed my life BLAHBLAHBLAH. In all seriousness, though, if nothing else, DLP is where I met Taure, and we've been dating for over 6 months now. I think that's pretty fucking awesome. (some of you may call it sad, but we really are happy together, so you can fuck right off)

    Thank you DLP :3

    Guess I'll post.

    Raven
    Midnight
    Xiph0
    Jon
    Oz
    Nuhuh
    Nonjon
    Sree
    Jeram
    Syaoran

And me. Why would I think of a community of which I am a member without thinking of me?

Vash should probably be on there; I just didn't think of him when I was writing the list. Also Blaise. And many others.

Off the top of my head:

    Vash
    Raven
    Perspicacity
    Oz
    Gio
    Joe
    Taure
    Blaise

DLP is...well, it's DLP. It's not something you can really tie down to one thing. To me, DLP's always been about the community, even if I haven't really participated in it much. It's the best thing I've ever been associated with on the internet and I'm damn proud to be here, because it's awesome. It's filled with win and lulz and, occasionally, fanfiction.

I just regret not having been on IRC more than like...five times in the two years I've been registered here. I'm trying to fix that.

Going along with the names thing, to me, DLP is:

    Ashaya (obviously)
    Blaise
    Perspicacity
    Klael
    Raven
    Oz
    Joe
    Jon

But that's only half the story. The true story of DLP must also include antagonism. So, DLP is also:

    Zombie
    Jangel
    Tehan
    Xiph0
    Merrill
    Silens

<3 you guys. Sort of. Well, not really. But DLP wouldn't be DLP without you.

Of course, DLP is more than just a list of names. It was very hard to not just list everyone who posts regularly there. But I tried to capture what DLP is in prose and failed hard. So I'll leave it here, lol.

(Though I will say that I want to agree that DLP, for me, is still very much about Harry Potter and writing. I know this isn't true for everyone, but it is for me).

This thread was remade into 'what' instead of 'who', because listing names is retarded, and just causes drama. The sentiment behind the thread 'discuss what the site means to you' is reasonable enough, but letting this devolve into another 'ROFL, U SRS? U THINK OF PERSON X WHEN U THINK OF DLP?' shitstorm would be stupid.

Lets try to keep it to the spirit of things, and leave lists of names out of it.

(Apologies if it seems like I'm trying to mini-mod or shit. Just the last thread was stupid, and I don't see why this one has to take the same route)

The only retarded post in this thread is yours. Prior to your bitching, there was no problem.

Considering the previous thread was locked, and the thread remade with the retarded name-listing posts deleted...

    Eh, whatever.

That is a mighty fine bag of herpes you have there. Is there any reason you decided to bring it to this thread, after I specifically asked people not to?

Carry on, then. Just rather seemed counterproductive for the thread to take the same route the last one did.

No,it is completely fine for people to use the initial format to get across their opinion of what DLP is if they relate it to a group of people that they relate the site to. It isn't alright for you to start throwing shit after everyone else remained civil.

Edit: Daddy doesn't like waking up at 2 am to see this kind of thing.

Its pretty difficult for new members to get into both the forum side of DLP and IRC. I tried to get onto there, but I've never been on IRC before and I didn't know any of the etiquette or any of the people. Very insular group. And recently, heaps of DLPers hang out on Google+, which I also don't have, which makes it even harder to get into the community.

I'd love to be on IRC all the time and try to learn all this shit but A) I don't have unlimited time to sink into that and B) Its actually pretty irritating to make noob mistakes and get flamed for them, which makes me want to spend less time doing it. The few times I've been on IRC I inevitably stay completely silent for ages then say too much or something dumb, and shame my way off. Maybe when I'm done with the HSC I'll put in the effort, but eh, its a little dumb that someone who has visited this forum pretty much every day for year can't just chat with the other members.

And in answer to the original question, DLP to me is a foundation, for my whole internet experience. DLP is the first site I check, and its where I go to find funny, cool, thoughtful, idiotic, shameful, entertaining and weird ideas. Procrastination aid, and occasionally procrasturbation aid. It'll probably be the last thing I check before bed too. And unlike a lot of other members, its also my only internet community, so its a little like home too. Heh, I guess DLP is pretty important to me.

Same thing here, DLP is my home on the internet as well. This is going to sound weird but I consider myself part of the next generation of DLPers. I've looked at some of the older posts from people like Taure, Joe and Oz from when they were my age or even younger and man they were douchy.

I'm just looking forward to growing up with DLP I suppose. I'm looking forward to seeing how much it changes from now.

I supposed one way to look at it is almost like a journey, not even really a community so much as a story about all these different people who changed each other and connected in different ways and had fights and lulz and fanfic on the way. Some people stayed, some people joined later or early, some people left before the end and some were there the whole time but it was still awesome.

    ....

Possibly the sappiest thing I've ever written.

D'aww. That was all so honest, Berkeley.

Let's see... I've been on IRC about four/five times in total; every time I've been there it's been massively active, and three of those times ended up with a post in the epic IRC quotes thread. I've been told that it's not often as active as it seems to be every time I go on, but I guess my impression of that stuck. I'm no good at group chats; I just let everyone talk and end up listening rather than saying anything.

Still, I've been on hangout with you guys a bit and that's a lot of fun, though I hardly ever notice when they're on in time to join. The people I keep up with most are the guys I have on facebook and skype. You guys should be on skype moar. Except Calz, for whom being on skype more is literally impossible. The world will end the day he logs out.

Edit: I think what drew me to actually being a regular on DLP in the first place was the people. Not the stories, although their amount and quality is an incredible testament to how skilled so many of us are. When I first came, reading through old threads, the attitude was what made me laugh and appreciate you all. I've never seen a community like this elsewhere - I suppose we're quite close-knit, in truth, and I enjoy being able to know the details and remember the personalities of everyone who posts here.

    D'aww to Sacro, too. :3

I have to agree with the DLP= Internet home sentiments. I lurked here since '06, joined in '09, rarely post, but always come here every day. It is where I have found all of my favorite fics, it is where I learned how to properly format a forum post, and it is where I have actually learned a lot about politics and history and what is going on in the world.

There have been plenty of times where I have shared a story that was posted here or was actually able to engage in an intelligent conversation about a world event that I would not have heard about if not for DLP. My internet routine is generally facebook, cracked, and DLP. I am not in any other internet community and I see no need to be in another one either.

All of these posts make me wonder how large the DLP iceberg is underneath the waterline.

The C2 would seem to imply "quite large".

For me DLP means, that I'm not so alone in this world with my way of thinking. Of course it is also home away from home with less food, and motherly things but the welcoming feeling is there.

    :awesome

This mostly. Probably my best internet friend is the new posts button on DLP.

When I first encoutered DLP, the appeal for me was purely the library with a lot of good HP fics. Reading fanfiction was my main way of spending time when bored but I didn't want people in RL to know it and I didn't particularly care about getting to know other people that read fanfiction.

Although HP fanfiction is still a large part of why I am at DLP, I suppose DLP as a community has sort of grown on me. And a lot of stuff on the forum is just pure entertainment.
