I don't know about Ron or Harry, but I seem to recall reading that she had specifically chosen Vine for Hermione because it was associated with her birth month.

With all the HP claptrap I have saved to my HD, I may have an article that says just that.

IIRC, she had a wand wood selected for Hermione and then changed it to Vine to match with the Celtic descriptions.

I believe it's on her website. Under Extra Stuff. Then in one of the tabs there's something saying WANDS.

/me knows JKR's website too well.

Oh, the above description is for text-only website. I don't use the fancy one.

I fucking raged after the potion making thing made me wait 85 minutes, only to melt my cauldron because of the shitty controls.

Whats up with having to wait so long for potions? I understand they can't let people be constantly making potions, but there has to be a better alternative. I'd be fine if there was a cool down period before I could make another potion, or I could come back whenever to the potion. But making me wait around for an hour and a half to make a virtual potion, because if I don't take it off the fire within a time limit it will be ruined is ridiculous.

Got my email yesterday. I'm BladeHazel71, Gryffindor, and still first year.

Potions sucks, so much. The only potion I managed to make was the Cure for Boils one. So far the most fascinating thing (aside from the wand-choosing and sorting ceremony bit) is duelling. I've collected several good books for duel, mastering several basic duelling spells (tongue-tying, Flippendo, Leg-Locker Curse, etc.) by practices. Unfortunately the Wizard Duelling is currently undergoing maintenance, temporary unavailable, thus I haven't tried real duel against other player yet.

Anyway. Has anyone here reached third year and above already?

You can't. The second book (and year) won't be out for another year or so. Rowling's going to make us wait a long time to for little pieces of information.

I like that we now know a little more about wandmovements and incantations, although it's a shame we only know the first of most new spells.

I don't really like there's a three word incantation though (blahblah ad nauseam or something). It opens the door for some really bad fanon spells.

Mucus ad nauseam. Curse of Bogies, making extremely loud noise. Or at least that's what the spell book said - so far no sound effects come from the site. No background music, nothing. And... well, bad fanon spells had existed since long before Deathly Hallows even published. Best we can do is stay away from them.

Yeah, I also like that we get to know more about the incantations, and wand movements. Even I get to know more about spells that never mentioned in the books. Some of them are also funny - like Tongue-Tying Spell (Mimble wimble? :) ). Personally, I enjoy practicing the spells. Simple yet very challenging.

    And - KnightSeeker10, Hufflepuff? I've sent you a friend request. :D

I do like that she put Curse of the Bogies in there, even though I'm all that fond of the incantation. It was part of the First Year curriculum under Quirrell and it's nice to get that little bit more insight.

Something else I find interesting is Furnunculus being a Pimple Jinx, while it causes boils in canon. Maybe its effect differs depending on the skill on the caster, which would probably make it a very easy spell. One of the typical schoolyard spells, probably.

I got my email about two days ago, but it's taken me until now to really get into it. Pottermore has been better than expected so far. I've enjoyed reading some of the extra info. The funniest piece from JKR wasn't even HP related, it was an anecdote about joining the British Weights and Measures Association.

ELDER WITH DRAGON CORE, FOURTEEN INCHES, HARD

This is the path I took to get that wand. I'd be interested to hear if copying my choices will get you the same wand.

    • tall for age
    • blue eyes
    • odd numbered date of birth
    • intelligence
    • right, towards the castle
    • fire
    • old black glove

Hmm... a fear of fire netted me a dragon core wand.

Got in today, haven't gotten sorted yet, but my awesome wand is Laurel, 13 inches, Dragon Heartstring core, and slightly springy.

Really digging it so far. Say what you will about Rowling, but I like her little anecdotes on little things with this, and she's got a great, I don't know, style in her telling (Like the history of the Hogwarts Express, or the note about Vernon's belief that the hut on the rock would protect them from wizards because of the old belief they can't cross running water). But yeah, cool so far. Will edit in my house later.

And... Hufflepuff. Like a fucking boss. I will take that house and make it my own.

So, yeah, I finally got my email.

Don't have much time to explore it fully (unless I stop wasting what little I have on DLP ;) ), but I managed to get sorted.

For interested: WildBlade20; Hawthorn with Unicorn Core, 14 1/2 inches, Slightly Springy; Ravenclaw.
