My catch-all suggestion thread (LF Completed/Regularly Updated AU or Indy fics)

AS I use this sub-forum quite a bit I thought I'd just make one thread for it all. If that's not cool then I'll just ask.

I'm looking for a fic I read a couple months ago and can't find it.
Time Period: 3-6th year. Hermione is in an accident and ill she apparently takes Harry's last name or something and dies shortly after giving birth to Harry's child and seeing Harry. So Harry has to take care of funeral services as Hermione's parents died in said accident and has to take care of a kid. Harry also has his eyesight repaired.

I don't know why but I've been itching to continue it.

    What the fuck?

    What the fuck?

I think you should start using the DLP library, maybe start reading some good stories.

So...teenagemum!Hermione snuffs it pumping out Albus-Severus-in-all-but-name, and Harry gets his eyes fixed.

    ...

    Right.

Not a lot to judge a story by since the pairing isn't all that important(or maybe it is?). I'd think the raising the child part would be the focus of the story. Author probably needed to remove all relatives of the child (removing all Weasley's would take some time :p)

We've all got guilty-pleasure fics that we want to reread for one reason or another that don't make it into the Library. Though, personally, I usually ignore that thought, but to each their own.

I think having all the LF threads under a single one might bear some discussion, though. Would definitely lighten up on the number of threads made. Though, without the pairing specific tag in this one.

I read this some time ago and if I remember correctly I was quite disappointed with how irrelevant the daughter and Harry's relationship with Susan were. They only served to disguise a bad independent story with the usual incompetent and manipulative Dumbledore.

    This.

I liked it, but it was just another cliche ridden meh-fest. Harry having a child usually sucks in a story, as either the author has no idea what raising a child entails (ie, they're twelve and want Harry to have a dolly), or the child makes no contribution to the story save for an vaguely angsty moment or two.

The only two I've ever really liked are the one where Bella rapes Harry (and he thinks it was all a dream) to get a child to use in a ritual, but it fails as the child is female, and the one where Harry adopts a magical japanese demon. Although the second one was nowhere near as good as I remembered on second read-through.

    ALSO
Was the basis of 'Steps in Life' a challenge or just a cliche, as I've seen VERY similar starts to stories repeatedly?

Is the same story where Hermione has some sort of vision of her death and rapes Harry in his sleep or some shit?

    Yeah. Do not want.

I really hate it when they fix his eyes. Maybe it's cause I have glasses, but seriously.
While it would be more practical, him having glasses is a very deliberate choice from JKR's side.

And yes, the story sounds rather bad.

A choice that could of instead have been used as a plot device.

With his glasses on, it only reinforces the whole 'he looks like James Potter' image he has - with no glasses, his eyes are more clearly shown, and it's most likely that people would automatically look to his emerald eyes first when looking at his face.

This could of at least shaken Snape during the first time he saw Harry - James Potter's face from the get-go, or Lily's eyes first? Could of at least led to different dialogue. At least.

That doesn't seem to be the one, thanks for looking though.

Oh well, I read Harry McGonagall instead and on that note does anyone have any good completed or regularly updated AU or Indy fics? Of course general recommendations are also appreciated.

Anyone know if there is a list of the completed fics in the library? Judging from my searches and such there aren't many. I thought I saw an old list but that didn't really help me much, especially since a lot of the fics I tried had been deleted.

Currently I'm in the mood for H/Hr. Anyways I'll be reading the Accidental Bond and another I downloaded to my Droid tablet.

Prince of the Dark Kingdom is a VERY AU fic. I wouldn't say it has regular updates, but considering the chapter length, that's fine. Today's update took it to 127 chapters, and I know it takes me most of a weekend to read through the entire series

    Fuck you, Portus. :)

I usually rely on Open Office to catch that via auto-correct.

Thanks just made an ebook of it and put it on my tablet I'll try it out tomorrow before classes.

On another note if anyone knows of any good bond fics (i.e. soul, harmony, etc.) I'd love some of those sent my way. The bond may not even be the central part of the story either or could be one of the central parts with others.

The Accidental Bond I.M.O. was a decent fic. I like that it starts out early in their school years and develops over time and that it has subtle reworkings of cannon that make it different enough for me for now.

I'm also looking for fics were Harry's schooling is different through Hogwarts or pre-hogwarts is different inn some way such as him learning of the magical world earlier. Or something else changes such as no Ron or becoming bonded, etc.

Thanks again, I'm going to start trawling through favorites tracker and google again, I just finished looking through a few C2's.

Harry Potter and The Lost Demon

Guh. I read the first few chapters, back when there were only a few chapters. I recall being somewhat bored.

But I keep saving the new chapters because it's in my alert list. Now, the thought of trying to read it induces major Archive Panic.

I think this may be along the lines of what you're looking for. All of his stories seem to be Harry/Hermione and a lot involve bonds of some sort. Now that's pretty much where the good ends (or at least what appears to be good in your case).

The stories are very one dimensional, and I'm thinking they pretty much have the same plot line in every one of them. I don't really know since I haven't read more then a couple of chapters of one and the summaries of the other. But if you're looking for a guilty pleasure fic, or just aren't too picky then you might want to try some of them out.
