    /cue fanfare

    -lesstinyhunt: A Mafia Variant-

created by Garcia1000 of sirlin.net, adapted for use on DLP by KaiDASH and Lutris

    The Rundown
    :
Lesstinyhunt is an improved version of the debatably wildly successful tinyhunt Mafia game. While tinyhunt, as its name suggests, is small allowing only for 13 players, lesstinyhunt is built for 17 players. 13 Town roles and 4 Witch roles will be drawn.

    Changes from tinyhunt:

-Increased player base from 13 to 17.

-The addition of the Hopeless Romantic, The Benevolent Old Dame, and the Detective, as well as the replacing of Nun in place of Eager Cadet for Town roles. Vigilante and Martyr have been adjusted.

-The addition of the Necromancer and a change in the Killer for Witch roles.

Sign up will open at 11:59:59PM GMT+9hrs, September 21 (Tokyo time for my convenience). To see how much time you have before signup opens, go here. The first day phase will start within a day after signup closes.

The following individuals have helped out in the adjustment and modification of tinyhunt into lesstinyhunt, and are guaranteed priority spots in the game should they wish it.

-KaiDASH, Vira, MattSilver, Palindrome, Klackerz, Kensington, Zeitgeist, Irene, Merrill

    Notes for Signup:

This is a 17 player game. I will also take 5 reserves, so I can replace people who do not meet the minimum activity requirement. I will also prioritize spots for up to 3 players entirely new to Mafia should they sign up. If you can't make it to sign up, PM me or notify me somehow and we'll discuss a reserved spot.

Players are expected to be able to dedicate some amount of time towards playing it. Lurk or only post one-liners and I'm kicking you out for a reserve player.

You must use QuickTopics to play in this game. If you are unsure as to what these are, visit the Tinyhunt thread here. If this is not acceptable to you, do not sign up.

As with Tinyhunt, there will also be an Observers QuickTopic for those interested. PM me if you are.

Take note that while you may declare your interest to play in this thread, your declaration means nothing unless you also post in the Sign Up QuickTopic that I will reveal when Public Sign Up commences.

    The Mechanics:

Soup: Each Witch has one bowl of Soup that they may Drink on the Night of their choice. Only one Witch may drink Soup each Night. Doing so allows them to Match a player to an Innocent role one at a time until they are incorrect or choose to stop. Each correctly Matched player dies. It is theoretically possible for a Witch to Soup Kill the entire Town in one night, if they're just that damn good.

A successful Match will only give the 'so and so died' message. A failed Match will give a public message of the form 'Xanthippe attempted to Soupkill Yolanda the [incorrect role], but failed.'

Lump, the Faithful Panda: On Day 1, there is a majority vote for a player to be awarded Lump's friendship. Lump always Lynch votes the same as his friend, adding an extra vote to theirs. If Lump's friend dies, Lump leaves the game. If a majority cannot be reached on Day 1, he will be awarded to the player with the most votes.

If nobody votes for someone to be awarded Lump, he will be randomly assigned.

Angels: Dead players become Angels. Each Night, the Angels decide by plurality vote to Protect a player (random tiebreaks). "No Protect" is a valid vote. A successful Protection will prevent a Nightkill, but not a Soup Kill.

Angels get the results of Priest checks at the end of each night. Angels are unable to give Protection when there are four or fewer living players.

Angels are given a QuickTopic to discuss in.

Death Curse: At the start of Night, a dead Witch may cast a Death Curse, to render any Angel Protection that Night ineffective. Each Witch may only cast the Death Curse once. After casting a Death Curse, the Witch may not vote any further in Angel chat (but are still allowed to post in it). Living players are not informed outright if a Death Curse occurs.

Deaths: Roles are not revealed upon death. Discretion is advised.

Lynching: Lynch voting is a non-compulsorily majority vote that takes place during each day phase. If no majority is reached, the Judge (if alive) may pick someone to lynch.

Must-lynch: Lynch voting automatically becomes a plurality vote when there are 4 players or less, with a random tie-break. When there are exactly two players remaining at the start of a Day phase, the win goes to (In descending order):

Lump(Faction of owner)>Judge(town)>Witch=Desperado. All other roles will lose to a Witch.

Day Phases & Lynch Voting: The Day Phase will last for a maximum of 48 hours, ending instantly when a Majority Lynch vote is reached. To ensure sufficient time for discussion each day, there are now two different types of Lynch votes:

    • a Deadline vote, where your lynch vote will be counted at the end of the day.
    • a Standard vote, where your lynch vote is counted immediately.

To cast a Deadline vote, say: Deadline Vote: Player Name
To cast a Standard vote, say: Vote Player: Player Name

To rescind your vote, say: Rescind Vote: Player Name

You can rescind or change a Deadline Vote at any time before the end of the Day Phase. You can do the same for a Standard Vote at any time before a Majority Lynch is reached.

Night Phases last for a maximum of 24 hours. They may be shortened provided that all Night Actions have been sent.

    The Roles:

There will be exactly one of each role in this game.

    THE TOWN:

You are the 'good' faction. You do not know who else is town (Exception: Acolyte) and you must work together to eliminate all Witches.

    Priest:
    Abilities
    - Each Night, Check target player
    Acolyte:
    Abilities
    - You know the identity of the Priest
    Spiritualist:
    Abilities
    - You are informed of the Angel's Protection target.
    Judge:
    Abilities
    - If the Lynch vote is deadlocked or no-lynch, you may determine the Lynch target
    Vigilante:
    Abilities
    - You may Kill a target at Night if there were two consecutive mislynches (On consecutive days). After a possible Vigilante Kill (whether used or not), the mislynch counter resets to zero.
    Nun:
    Abilities
    - You make ask the game moderator to publicly confirm you as the Nun at any time during the day while you are still alive.
    Martyr:
    Abilities
    - At Night, you may die to Save any player the Witches Kill, whether Night Kill, Soup Kill, or the Killer's Death Kill. This Save does not occur if you also die that night.
    Desperado:
    Abilities
    - You may die to immediately determine the Lynch target, so long as a majority has not been reached.
-If you tie 1vs1 with a Witch, you win.
    Dancer:
    Abilities
    - At Night, you may Dance to inform all players the next Day that 'the Dancer Danced'.
    Pope:
    Abilities
    - At the end of a Night when 4 or fewer players remain, you automatically Check all living players.
    Hopeless Romantic:
    Abilities
    - At any time during day 1, you may pick a player. You are given a new QT to share with that player. You will follow your partner into death if they are killed. However, they will not follow you if you die.
Note: If you pick a witch to share with, you are immune to being soupkilled (but you don't know that you've picked a witch to share with or that you're immune to soup).

    Benevolent Old Dame:
    Abilities
    - When you die by any means EXCEPT Soup, you may grant an extra life to a player of your choice. This extra life does not protect that player from Soup, but it does protect against all other forms of death (Lynch, Vigilante, etc). The player you pick is informed they have an extra life.
    Detective:
    Abilities
    - You find out the roles of players killed during the day

    THE WITCHES:

Each night phase, Witches decide by plurality vote who to Night Kill (random tiebreak).

    Demon:
    Abilities
    - You are informed of the Priest's Check target.
    - Communication with other Witches via QuickTopics
    Occultist:
    Abilities
    - You are informed of the Angel's Protection target.
    - Communication with other Witches via QuickTopics
    Killer:
    Abilities
    - You may kill 1 non-witch player in either (but not both) of the Night Phases after your death. This is called a Death Kill, and pierces Angel Protection. You are informed of who the Witches are killing during the night.
    - Communication with other Witches via QuickTopics
    Necromancer:
    Abilities
    - Each night, name up to 3 roles. You are informed how many of them are dead.
    - Communication with other Witches via QuickTopics
    Etiquette:

For the enjoyment of everyone, all players are encouraged to follow these guidelines:
    • Please do not lie about real-life commitments! E.g. "I can't post for the next two days, because my cat died," when you did not have any such cat. This sort of behavior is outside the scope of the game.
    • Similarly, if someone says he will not be available due to real-life constraints, it is polite to believe him.
    • For the avoidance of doubt, this is not a role-playing game.
    • Keep the game stuff and non-game stuff separate! Mixing these things leads to tragedy.
    • If you are unable to be active, you will be replaced. Please let me know in advance if this is likely to happen.
    • Be nice! We're all playing to have fun. Disparage someone's skill if you must, but please avoid personal insults!

    Rules:
    • Only living players may post in the thread.
    • You may not privately communicate with anyone except the moderator unless specifically allowed (i.e. the QuickTopics for Witches and Angels.)
    • You may never edit posts in this thread or in any QuickTopics you may be posting in.
    • You may not quote private communication from the game host (PM's or QuickTopics) in open chat, either automatically or manually.
    • You may not post in the game thread during the night phase
    • Do not tag the thread with any game relevant tags.
    • You are not only permitted to lie, you are encouraged to do so; you may claim any role at any time that you are allowed to discuss matters, and a good lie will almost certainly help your side!

    QuickTopic

QuickTopics will be used to facilitate communication between players and the moderator (me). Also, they are used to make discussion between aligned groups easier (Witches, Angels). You must be prepared to use a QuickTopic if you signup for LessTinyHunt. It is the only way Witches or Angels are allowed to communicate.

Post in the following QuickTopic to acknowledge this: http://www.quicktopic.com/46/H/LqjayDGjY5h
If you do not post in the QuickTopic above, your signup will be ignored.

    Rules for QuickTopics
    • You must not share the URL of a QuickTopic with anybody else, whether they are in the game or not.
    • You must not edit a post you have made in a QuickTopic, for any reason.

    Glossary
    • Protection: Immunity to normal Nightkills.
    • Lynch: The vote the town makes during the day to kill someone by majority vote.
    • Nightkill: The kill that results from the Witch vote.
    • Soupkill: The kill(s) that result from Witches successfully using Soup.
    • Witches: The evil faction trying to secretly convince town to destroy itself.
    • Innocents: Everyone who is not a Witch.
    • Check: The Priest's night action and the Pope's auto-ability; returns "good" for all Innocents, and "evil" for all Witches.
    • Majority Vote: A target is confirmed when more than half of eligible voters select that option.
    • Plurality Vote: A target is confirmed when it is the option with the highest number of votes at the end of voting. What happens in a tied vote is listed for each case using a Plurality vote.

    Other stuff

    Night Action Priority:
    • Soup and Soup Kill
    • Nightkill (Blocked by Angel Protect)
    • Vigilante Kill (even if Vigilante is killed)
    • Martyr Save (Only for kills made by Witches)
    • Priest Check
    • Necromancer Check
    • Dancer Dance
    • Pope Check
    • Spiritualist, Detective, Occultist and Demon get their info at the end of the night

Despite my exam beginning of Oct. D: Ah well. I'm a study nut when I want to be, so shouldn't be that big a problem.

...9 a.m. >_<! I leave home to go to my Japanese class, no later than 8:50a.m. Quite the irony, eh? Maybe I can post right before I leave... I doubt a spot will still be open by the time I'm done with class around 11. Ah well.

I'll be in Muskoka for the next three days, so I probably won't be able to sign up/play, which sucks. I'm hoping there's a second game soon after.
