In Diagon Alley, you pick up your shopping list (I had to scroll my little laptop screen down to see it). After picking it up, the next arrow was enabled, allowing entrance to Gringott's. To receive your account, you grab the key and move it over the keyhole- shopping comes next, where mostly you're just fulfilling the list requirements with barely any choice- crystal or glass vials and what sort of pet you want at your avatar (prices range from 5 G for a Common Toad to 15 G for a Shriek Owl (and no, they're out of stock on Snowy Owls- always have been, always will be). The dumb part about the pets is that the list says 'you may bring...' but the site requires you to buy one to move forward.

Once all the other stuff is bought, the Ollivander's visit is enabled, and you can get evaluated for your wand.

 

Don't pickup any items that you don't have to until you're sorted.

In the pre-sorting chapters there are hidden objects such as an alarm clock, salt and pepper pots, seaweed, etc. which don't help you at all if you pick them up early. Wait until you're sorted and then go back for them. They'll earn you house points.

From what I recall, the only hidden object you need to collect before sorting is the Shopping List in Diagon Alley.

Also sorted in Gryffindor. Eh, I was aiming for Ravenclaw or Slytherin though. Could have been worse, I would have been sorted into Hufflepuff lmbo.

Edit: Man the user base for Pottermore is everybit the collection of numb-nuts that populate most of the fan ficition sites. Just look under the character profiles of Draco and Pansy.

Got sorted into Ravenclaw! Hardly surprising. I was a little annoyed at how there were questions with fairly meaningless answers in my sorting - 'left or right'? Such insight into the mind it offers.
