Hahah, me too. I really enjoyed the series, though at the beginning it seemed to be fairly aimless and kind of a slice-of-life sort of story.

And like Dark Minion mentioned, Ao no Exorcist ("Blue Exorcist") is fantastic. It's on the 20th episode, and still reveals new plot bits every episode. The art is carefully done, too.

Have any of you guys seen Hetalia? I'm loving the representations of each country :)

Yeah I heard that. Was talking to some random at Manifest (an anime convention) on the weekend and they were saying that the English dubs are amazing.

Might give it a go. I never really felt anything was wrong with the Japanese voice acting except when they try Engrish (which was painful), but yeah.

Stayed home sick this last couple of days and read Hikaru no Go from start to finish. It's good, though probably not amazing (I find I can't be objective just hen I finish a series - right now I think it's epic, but in a week I'll have a better objective opinion).

Also started Natsume's Books of Friends, after hearing so much of how it's like Mushi-shi except more oriented towards the younger generation. Watched the first episode and I think I'm in love.

Blue Exorcist's new episode should come today, wonder what new heights the failure will reach. Also Nurarihyon II's new episode should be out today, and from what I remember of the manga we're gonna see a curbstomp battle with Rikuo at the receiving end. This is gonna be epic, seeing his opponent is a Vash-level walking wasteland Youkai with Kenpachi-level battle lust. :D

Finished watching all 24 episodes of Transformers Prime a couple days ago. It's quite good, better than Animated and on par with BW.
Especially, DAT ARCEE and DAT ARACHNID.
    Reanimator Ratchet is cool, too.
    Awesome/5.

Just finished Steins;Gate. Holy shit, that was intense - and completely not what I expected from the (lighthearted) first few episodes. Plus the ending actually made sense, and was satisfying, despite being an anime about time travel. I definitely recommend this to anyone who hasn't already watched it.

Fair warning, I found Steins;Gate to be boring as hell and borderline unwatchable. I've heard that it gets far better at the end, but the first six episodes were slow and though there were a few hints of awesomeness, I could see future twists coming and the current twists weren't executed well enough to keep me on the hook. I just don't know why people blow over this show.

You gave up too soon. The awesome kicks in hard a few episodes later. The happy, slice-of-life comedy shit goes out the window once they actually build a real time machine, and have to deal with the consequences. I won't post spoilers, but... episode 12.

(Personally I liked the contrast with how lighthearted the first half is, because it makes the frantic action of the second half that much more intense, and the character development that much more meaningful. But YMMV.)

I had the same problem with the series like Berkeley. It wasn't able to catch and hold my interest.

Every season I watch the first one or two episodes of probably interesting shows and continue only those which really caught me. I don't have the time nor the patience to follow an anime just hoping it might get better one day.

It's the same with fanfiction. If the author or director doesn't manage to impress the audience early on, he/she is doing it wrong.

I usually go four or six episodes in, depending on how long the show is. One or two just isn't enough to get a good feel for a show outside of its visual style.

I went to six episodes, where they uncovered some serious shit and did some more tests with the phone microwave. If by halfway in I still don't give a shit, it doesn't matter how good the end is.

    The spoiler is,

In episode 12, Moika shoots Mayuri in the head. Blows her brains out. Kills her 100% dead. Tu-tu-roooooooohshit. Kurisu dies too. Using their new time machine (not the silly microwave) Okabe enters a Groundhog Day loop trying to save them, and gradually starts to snap.
There are other twists, but that's the big one that totally changes the tone of the show.

Anyway though, I won't push the point. You do still have to get through the first 3 hours before it gets awesome, so I guess there's something to what you guys are saying.

The premiss for Stein's Gate always reminded me a bit of the movie Primer from the Sundance Film Festival a while back (which I admittedly didn't like....)

Finished watching both Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica and Welcome to the N.H.K. MSMM was a huge surprise and was nhk was just was funny as shit at times and pretty bittersweet.

If you really liked N.H.K then I you might want to look for the manga and light novel as well. The manga portraits Misaki far more manipulative.

Yeah I heard that she behaves more like someone with borderline personality disorder. Of the two, light novel and manga, which would you rec if I only had time to read one?

If you are going for the difference, read the manga.

If you are looking for the original story on which both manga and anime are based, read the light novel.

Started reading the manga last night, but what was put-off by how it seems to skip around from scene to scene with little segue. Got confusing at times, but I really liked the premise.

So I watched all the anime. Still loved the premise, and it had its good moments and bad. Seemed to drag during some of the sub-plots. And though I could understand the main-character's anxiety pretty-well, a lot of times I was thinking he needed to man the fuck up. But, that's probably just a cultural difference.

Loved how he escaped from reality throughout the whole thing, though. I think it was the pretty strong-characterization that I liked so much. Would still recommend it.

So, it's been a while, but I thought I'd just go ahead and rec Eden of the East. I just watched it, it's on Netflix - 11 episodes, it is really just fantastic. Very relevant, very well written, and the storyline is something I'd never seen before. Definitely a must watch in my mind.

Watch the movie next. Eden of the East: King of Eden. Should be on Netflix as well.

The series started great and was ok in the end, but with the movies the plot went downhill.

It ended without a real climax and showdown.
