Really, the only thing that makes the Last Olympian a better book is that it was all Percy. If this book had been Percy POV only, no doubt it would have been the best book.

Pretty good book IMO, the only thing I didn't like was the POV change. By the way , how old is Percy in this one?

I hope the next book only has on perspective, anyone would be better than having 7 of them.

    Meh.

I'm stuck thinking that Riordan meant to end the series with Last Olympian and that these subsequent books are just add-ons. They don't really mesh with me.

So Gaia and Juno have been plotting for decades, yet neither of them were aware of Kronos' attempt to rise? Just doesn't make sense.

And these giants... they're pathetically, laughably weak. At least when we were reading The Last Olympian we were told that the Titans were in a weakened state. If Kronos regained his full power... it was all over. Here the giants are being cut down so easily by mere demigods. 3 dead now? Granted they'll probably be brought back by Gaia, but it doesn't make for a very impressive track record. I mean once Percy got his shit together he just Rick-rolled everyone, including a giant. It wasn't even hard for him.

I guess what I'm saying is that, first, Riordan would greatly improve his series by developing the villains to a greater degree. Honestly I still think Kronos is the best and ultimate villain of the series, simply because he had five books of evil behind him. These giants are just throw-away characters to me so far.

And at what point is Percy allowed to be righteously indignant to the extent that he just says "fuck you" to the gods? I mean, they're almost as bad as any villain in the series with the way they fuck around with their kids.

I think I might start a new story soon... we'll see.

Well, from what we've read so far we know that Gaea was working to bring back the giants as long ago as WWII, and likely had plans in motion for awhile before Hazel gets involved.

So with Juno, and presumably the others, focused on Gaea and the giants, that would explain perhaps how the Titans, specifically Kronos, were able to gain power without alerting much attention.

As for easily defeating the Giants, well, we must assume that they're getting a bit more help from the gods.

    So far we've had...

Enceladus - Killed by Jason Grace and Zeus together...
Porphyrion - Defeated by Hera (with a little help from Jason) but not killed, iirc.
Alcyoneus - Killed by Frank the Elephant? What god helped? Are they counting Arion?
Polybotes - Killed by Percy and Terminus together.

Hmmmmm, yeah, so far not overly impressive even with the added fact that the gods are helping somewhat.

Then again, several Titans were defeated by demigods alone, but yeah, none of these chaps quite match up to Kronos yet.

For supposedly being such a big threat that only gods and demigods together can defeat them, eh, not impressive.

None of them measure up to Kronos or Typhon yet, but maybe they'll be more impressive the closer they get to Greece?

Yeah I have to agree that for someone who is supposedly a match for Neptune himself the fact that he got iced by just having a part of a statue slammed into his brain is pathetic beyond words, that was actually one of my biggest faults I found in the book. I mean I know Terminus is a god and what not but the idea right now that Riordan is presenting is that so long as some piece of a God is used in the process these pussy giants can be brought down by just about anything. I'm honestly waiting for the part where Hermes just to hurry shit along takes his toe-nail trimmings and staples them to Percy and friends weapons. Given how absurdly loosely the "God" part of the God and Demigod working together rule seems to be applied I cant see any reason that wouldn't do the trick.

Edit: Oh also Howdy if you include Percy telling Annabeth to shove it in some fashion and a Percy/Reyna pairing in the background on this story of yours I will love you forever.

What is with all this Reyna love? She seemed like such a wallflower to me, especially in how she seemed lost without Jason and was allowing Octavian to practically perform a hostile takeover.

    Percy/Calypso 100%.

    Yeah.

In the Lost Hero, I didn't think too much of it because you had Zeus helping out with the master bolt frying one giant to help kill him, and Hera using all her power to scare off the other.

So in both instances, you had a fair bit of godly power helping out.

In this book though, it all just seemed so 'meh' as far as the gods help.

She isn't Annabeth, if you write Percy and Calypso though I will be just as happy.

I was waiting for this book to come out to attempt an HP/PJ crossover with Harry as the son of Trivia/Hecate. Time to give it a shot.

Hate to break it to you, but Hades is kind of a bitch in this series.

Percy and Oceanus = infinite win.

I say its because Percy is so much stronger than Jason. Jason is powerful, he's the son of Jupiter. But Percy is a badass mother fucker. Notice Hazel says she believed Nico was the strongest Demigod she had ever met until Percy and she knew Jason.

No, she did know Jason. Briefly. Frank is the one who never met Jason.

I agree that the giants are being destroyed far too easily. I guess Thanatos/Mors/Letus helped with Alcyoneus, technically. I'm assuming that dead giants are going to be brought back for the assault on Mt. Olympus though. That said, I don't think they're meant to be on Saturn's level. They were each created to counter a specific god. Its Gaea/Terra that's the big bad this time around, and I find her sufficiently evil so far, but its more insiduous than what Kronos did. Hopefully when/if she wakes up we'll see some stuff going down. I'm pretty interested in what's going on in Europe. The western world isn't limited to the U.S. What are the demigods in the U.K., Spain, France, etc. doing?

The book itself: I also didn't particularly enjoy the point of view switching. I liked Hazel, but couldn't stand Frank. He seemed somewhat pointless, and his waffling was irritating.
