Palindrome, you're missing troll-luna when she pops out of the apple-bobbing tank.

I quite liked this episode, tbh. Luna was reasonably close to our fanon perceptions (as pointed out by Chengar Qordath), and Pinkie Pie's costume was hilarious. However, I will admit that this episode (however polished it is) inevitably feels like a let-down after the laugh-fest that was the previous episode. Crazy Twilight and her expression. =)

Did anybody else notice the Derpy cameo in this episode? I'm sure it was Derpy who popped out of Applejack's bucket. xD

    Of course it was Derpy.

@Rehio: I just realised that the pony who's trying to fish for apples in that pic is Carrot Top, a ginger pony. Who's dressed up as Satan. Oh, MLP. =3

Well, if one wanted to get really technical about it, the word "fun" has only been a part of the English language for around 300 years or so. Then again as long as we're being technical, actual Old English as spoken 1000 years ago is incomprehensible to anyone who speaks modern English (look at something like an untranslated version of Beowulf for an example).

As for the thees and thous, thee and thou are informal terms of address, and using the informal second person when addressing social inferiors is entirely appropriate. Most of the time, misuse comes from using thee and thou in a formal, respectful context; the formal second person address is "you." Obviously "you" does not sound archaic enough to most people, thus the misuse of thee and thou.

I actually like this version of Luna better than most of the fanon ones; hiding behind outdated court protocol makes a lot more sense than the fan versions where a lot of her awkwardness seems like a carbon-copy of Twilight Sparkle, but cranked up to eleven. Plus, the whole issue of not reacting well when people dislike her does make sense, given her history and all.

Derpy is supposed to be popping up semi-regularly now; as I recall it's been confirmed that Derpy's been upgraded from random background pony to a proper recurring character; she even gets a brief appearance in the new opening sequence. Also, I love the fact that Derpy's costume is a paper bag over her head, and more over her hooves.

I think Zeitgeist hit on this episode's biggest problem; it's good, but it's following what is (in my opinion) the funniest episode in the entire series so far. Luna was funny, but Crazy Twilight was ridiculously hilarious.

I lol'd at the TRADITIONAL ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE, and the way Luna kept falling back into it when she was nervous. It helps that my image of Luna pretty closely matches her canon personality, with a good bit of arrogance/pride covering for her insecurities.

I finally got around to checking this show out last night -- mostly because of all the DLP fans there seem to be of it. Watched the 2-part Pilot Episode plus the next 2 episodes (though when the next two were on I was also doing some casual proofreading and not giving it 100% attention). Decided to come here and offer a bit of a review, but it took me a while to find the thread -- I was expecting it to be under "TV Shows" like AtLA is.

I don't really get the big deal/draw this show seems to have on people, especially people like those normally frequenting DLP. I mean, it's not bad or anything. It's head and shoulders above other shows I've seen that have been aimed at this demographic. I even kind of enjoyed watching it.

But for me there's a big gap between "this is actually pretty good for a TV show aimed at young-ish girls, watching it was reasonably fun" and "oh wow I can't wait to see the next episode, this is great, and I am excited to have a semi-serious discussion about the world/characters with other adults."

Am I missing something or is this just not for me? Are the couple of episodes I watched not very indicative of the quality? Or am I misreading all the enthusiasm I'm seeing on DLP as being more than it is? Because at first glance it seems to be about as popular as AtLA (which I agree is fantastic).

    Cheers

Edit: The main thing I liked about it was that actually managed pull off having six main characters (or one main character and five/six co-stars). In my experience most shows have trouble pulling off more than three and keeping them fresh/individual. Granted some of this was accomplished by having the ponies each represent specific traits and whatnot, giving them a 2-dimensional feel, but even so.

Try watching a few more. Ten, sixteen, twenty-five and twenty-six are my favorites from Season 1 -- you could try those out. Chronology isn't much of an issue. Then of course there's episode three from Season 2.

I feel the same, Cheddar - most of the draw, to me, comes from the fandom surrounding it. And I like the irony of all these men watching a show about pink ponies.

If you don't like Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash then there is clearly something wrong with you.

So after giving a partial review here at DLP last night, I mentioned to the two people I know RL who suggested I watch the show that I had given it a go.

One of them was so excited that I had finally taken his advice and watched a few episodes that he sent me to the Pony Creator Full Version on Deviantart so I could make my very own pony. He wanted to see my pony when I was "done" making one.

    ...wtf?

I think this pretty much sums up why I like MLP. Derpy <3

Seriously though, I think most of the support comes from a weird sort of self-trolling. Disregarding the truly fanatical bronys, it's like a new breed of internet hipsters devoted not to being pretentious tools but being hilariously awesome instead.

LOL. She hasn't seen the dark side until she's been to /r/clopclop.

I just ruined someone's life, and it makes me feel good inside.
