I agree. I had decent hopes for it, as I liked the concept of Hate, but not the execution as much. And I've always enjoyed the idea of a mercenary Harry Potter, but y'know, not a 14 year old one.

I will give the author props for going about it slightly better than it normally is, but, well, shit with a nice red bow on it is still shit. Just slightly better to look at.

Jesus that was terrible. I skimmed it and it still made me want to tear my eyes out.

It was mediocre before, now its just complete swill.

I swear that was a trap. The story went from mildly entertaining to the author trying to smother the reader in retarded cliches in one chapter. Fuck, that was painful to read...

While we're (sort of) on the topic though, are there any good stories with Harry as a mercenary? I agree with Samuel Black that it could be pretty fucking awesome, but I can't remember reading any good ones.

I don't know if this story has been recced here before, I couldn't find it with the forum search engine. It has been updated recently and the quality of the new chapter is fantastic. It's moving slowly and there's a lot of angst and confusion, but the style is captivating and the backstory for the romance is intriguing too. 5/5

I have some strange desire to read that fic... The fact that you are the one to rec it however makes me a bit wary.

Fuck it, i'll edit this with comments when I'm done.

Better than the author's usual tripe, probably a 2.5 or 3. The romance is about as subtle as a sledgehammer, but it's not as fast as it was in his previous stories. Additionally, there's more than one point of divergence, and the earlier one is actually fairly unique (used as a plot point in only one other story I've read).

It's not great but it's not terrible either.

Does it show signs of his typical college soap romance crap like his last stories?

Like I said, it's about as subtle as a truncheon to the head. Despite that it's still fairly readable - his other stories are shit because of that combined with other serious problems, but he avoids most of the worst here, somehow.

Man, you know an author is bad when I can tell who you are talking about without clicking on the link, just by the way you described his works. I skimmed through it a bit, but there was nothing terrible noteworthy about it. My first facepalm occurred when Tracey thought Harry was going to attack her on sight for no reason. Wasn't expecting much going in, so I'm not really surprised.

Just finished this and... it probably fits into the barely readable spectrum. I agree with the 2.5-3/5 rating you gave it. I went in, and got what I expected really. I think you covered pretty much everything when you talked about it's subtlety.

The thing that annoyed me the most was the constant viewpoint switching. I actually ended up skimming/skipping those parts. However, it has brought back some slight nostalgia from when I used to love the idea of H/Slytherin.

Might go try find some good ones. If anyone has any recommendations along that line...

    My fic. Heh.

Seriously though, there's very little along the line of good HP/Slytherin!Chick.

Belleradh (now Krahae on FFN) wrote Snakecharmer, and it's fairly decent, but it's abandoned and the politics is heavily focused on history and such. Still, it's worth a read.

Yeah, I had memories of Sesc being a big fan of the genre, so I went to his FFN profile and saw the best 'Daphne' fic was snake charmer, that's open in a tab and waiting to be read.

Have been meaning to read your fic for quite a while as well, perhaps this is the motivating I'll use to get round to it. :p

I must say apart from McGonagall thinking Hermione went back in time 1000 years to reserve a library book, this story was pretty good for a HP/Doctor Who crossover and I have high hopes it will continue.

    ^This.

The story was just the right amount of creepy to make it good, and it's on the alert list.

This isn't one story, but a collection of short one-shots. But they impressed me enough to actually post here. The advertised pairing is only in one of the stories, but the rest are attractive enough for the average DLPer - Harry/Narcissa, Harry/Astoria, Harry/Pansy, Harry/Romilda.

I like the 'Victorian' pureblood traditions that are a prevalent theme in them and I also like how they are incorporated into the HP world. They aren't necessarily over-bearing or ridiculous and I like how they put the contrast between purebloods and muggleborn into the picture.

Maybe I'm jaded, but I couldn't bring myself to read much more than the first 'chapter'. Students referring to each other as 'Lord This' and 'Lady That' really is ridiculous.

Barely Readable rather than Almost Good.
