The Gellar who was a professor, wrote the book with the drawings of the murder scenes, and purportedly started that end times website is real. That's the Gellar who the police have a photo of. No one's seen him in 3 years. He's either dead or secluded.

The Gellar who we've seen on screen is the imaginary one. Travis either knew the real Gellar, or learned about him from Gellar's website, books, art, etc. Travis has been hallucinating this idealised Gellar.

    edit: ninja'd. Badly.

I honestly hope Geller isn't imaginary, but I suppose it's not impossible considering everything you guys are saying. What with the theme of change in regards to hallucinations it even seems likely.

However, more importantly, we're about the see the the days of a darker Dexter dawn, and that is gonna be amazing.

For everyone wondering who's going to get killed from Harry's life, I'm betting on his son. Just to twist the knife a little deeper. :sherlock:

These theories make a lot of sense. I knew Adama would never do anything like that.

Good thing no one walked in at that part, did not want to explain why I was laughing so hard at a guy getting killed.

I regret reading this thread now. I hadn't picked up at all on the hints of Geller being imaginary.
It's pretty obvious now, but I'd still have liked to be surprised by the show.

I didn't like the episode that much... the whole deal of Dexter going 'bad' was resolved far too quickly. We've been building towards that for most of the season, ever since Brother Sam and Dexter became friends. All wrapped up in one ep?

Also, the shooting at road signs while driving along was more silly than anything else.

So much this. I liked the ep, but I wish that Dexter going off the deep end was a longer term event.

It seemed silly to me too, but it's not without precedent. According to some white South Africans I used to know, shooting signs while driving was a very common practice. Apparently most road signs [regional?] were completely illegible.

Yeah, overall it was a pretty good episode but it was resolved way too quickly. I enjoy Dexter's brother a lot more than seeing Harry who has, over the course of the series, just become boring and dull.

And I think the farmer and wife gag went over my head, what was the joke exactly?

This link makes a few points I didn't actually clock whilst watching.

A different and perhaps more telling interpretation of the phrase 'American Gothic' and the sheer shock value of it - both the use of an artistic reference and Dexter killing another person messily. Plus, it was just lulzy.

Anyway, I also thought that it was disappointing that Brian's storyline was resolved so quickly. I had really hoped it would be something that would stick until the end of the season wherein he would rediscover Harry.

EDIT: Oh fuck you, Yak. D=

... Two more seasons? The fuck? What more could they possibly have to tell? :sherlock:

Rather they know how to beat a dead horse.

They have a mountain of things they can still go into and hell if it comes down to it they can just make up another set of serial killers. It seems to have worked fairly well so far.

Edit: Beating a dead horse would imply that the show sucks and they're just wringing whatever life they can out of it. In my opinion at least the show hasn't dropped in quality, I mean there have been quite a few derp moments such as the Dexter/Brian hallucination and Dexter going feral for all intents and purposes which could have been a ridiculously awesome storyline but I think the show still has plenty of life left in it.

Also definitely Yak, that is going to be one of the best episodes of this show ever when that finally happens.
