Episode 8 is up and running, kind of surprised that Kirei jumped in like that, he never seemed like the person to run in and get his hands dirty when he could work from the shadows.

Then again that may just be me failing to read Heavens feel again.

Ilya was the real star of that route. Heaven's Feel was the only path that made me like her as a character. It also helped that Shirou took several levels of badass towards the end, even managing to

kill a full-powered Saber by himself in one of the "bad ends". Seriously, they even made a song for that one scene alone and it is awesome.

 

Damn the fact that exams are coming up, well it looks like I know what I'm doing over the holiday break.

If it seriously is better then UBW was, then I will be very happy since it was awesome.

 

I personally liked UBW better (might be because Rin is pretty awesome), but HF definitely had a very high level of epic throughout.

My opinion of HF:

Ilya has her moment, yes. But what makes HF great is it takes all of the character development from the first two routes and has the gall to throw it all out the window as useless. It spits in the face of Shirou''s previous two selves, and has him, in a rather literal way, surpass his previous selves in the process.

It cracks Shirou's "broken" ideals. The same "broken" ideals that he held above all else in the first two routes. Not saber nor Rin were able to do that. Only Sakura's unique position made him do something for himself for once. That's what makes HF so great. It literally destroys everything the first two built up to.

Yes. And if I remember correctly Diarmund never killed anyone, just repelled the knights that pursued him constantly.

Oh, and he was fatally wounded by a wild boar, and the lord didn't save his life even though he could.

 

Lancer didn't kill anyone from Fionn's order because they were his friends. But the other people hunting weren't as lucky.

And Fionn might have made amends to Lancer but that didn't mean he ever actually forgave him for bewitching and stealing away his betrothed. When Lancer was impaled by a wild boar, it was the perfect moment for his giant "Fuck you", which he delivered by deliberately ignoring Lancer's request for help.

The anime adaptation portrayed it well enough. The main points were highlighted and there really wasn't much need to show scenes of Lancer getting impaled by a boar. Just a simple face shot of him dead/dying with Fionn's voice in the background was enough.

 

Yeah, forgot that line. It didn't show the boar, just added that as clarification of exactly what happened. It sort of left out whether Lancer was murdered or what.

It's a small thing. Much smaller than the unfortunately necessary shunning of the varying forms of disturbing Caster stuff.

 

One thing that really bugs me about this anime is Waver. Like, he could've been a pretty interesting character. The young upstart who wants to prove his worth through skill instead of birth - sounds like something you'd see in a shounen hero. They could still have a similar type of relationship between Rider and Waver, but with a more likeable Master.

Instead he's an annoying whiny little bitch. Even that would still be survivable if the voice actor they chose didn't have such a...grating voice. But at this stage, all of Rider's awesomeness is almost being cancelled out by having to listen to Waver.

 

Just saw ep 10.

Initially I was a bit let down, expecting a filler episode (which apparently wasn't part of the light novel) - despite being loli-Rin.

But it actually turned out to be pretty awesome - I really liked this episode. Gave some pretty good character development for Rin, Tokiomi and Kariya.

My favorite part was just her walking through the city at night - you could feel the darkness which surrounded the place, the aura of murder and magic from every direction. Really helped enforce the tone of the anime. When she pulls out her magic compass and it just starts spinning in all directions...sent shivers down my spine.

Her defeating the bracelet felt a bit like a cheesy shounen anime, but it did make sense since Ryuunosuke isn't really a mage.

 

The basic premise was actually from the novel but..they embellished it.

Honestly it bugs me a bit. In the original she didn't save anyone. In fact she ended up seeing very little of the big picture. It honestly read from a kids perspective. The anime loses that "she's just a kid" bit.

 

Episode 11 is up. It's official, Rider just stole the entire damn show.

 

I... Holy fuck. Rider, why are you so awesome?
