And the obvious concluding storyline is Deborah discovering who Dexter really is. The whole series has been building up to that reveal. Final episode's key moment is whether or not she puts a bullet in his head.

Hrm... I don't think she'll find out at all during the series.

:fire <-- This thing looks like those guys from Super Mario Bros. 3. Don't they?

I can imagine it now...Debra standing pointing a gun at dexter's face with utter betrayal in her eyes. She's crying and her arm is shaking heavily from the emotional burden. Dexter has a knife in his hands and is poised to strike but again is hesitating because she is his sister and she has a gun pointing at his face. (In some previous episode, Dexter found out that Debra actually murdered her boyfriend when she was young leading to her emotional instability with guys...and making her fit into Harry's code for dexter).

The music builds up...the camera zooms out, we're seeing the outside of the warehouse and...we hear Debra scream and then hear a gunshot. And that's it. Instantly, the entire series ends. We wouldn't exactly be certain what happened but that would be awesome.

What? No it wouldn't, that would be fucking awful. That's like the bullshit Sopranos ending times one hundred.

I'm not sitting here saying I want to see happily ever after or anything like that but I want some freaking closure when they do end the series. Ending it like you described would just leave an enormous question mark over everything and frankly ruin it for me.

It will all come out at the end. It probably won't happen before the end, because a series where Deborah knows the truth will feel like they've jumped the shark.

As for it not happening at all, the show has been building to that point since the very beginning... waitaminute, let me google this and see what's out there. Here we go. According to one of the producers:

Last episode of season five had Deborah let Dexter and Lumen (not-knowingly, of course) escape after killing the big bad for the season. She knew it was someone who had been a victim.

Not the same thing as what Dexter does for sure. But as has been said, Deborah's character arc is heading towards a place where she might be able to accept Dexter.

Well, this new episode certainly focused on the Deb/Dexter dynamic!

Was I the only one who thought Deb freaking out over the pen was completely retarded?

For one, who actually looks at a pen while they're writing, and for two, bullshit pens like that hop continents. I have one lying around my room from some place in Iowa, and I've never been there in my life except for flying over en route to Cali.

That was entirely justified. I mean really? How can you think it wasn't? I was thinking through that scene, "Hey, now she'll be curious where it's from, he'll make some shitty excuse, she'll believe him and at some point later in the series, she'll think of the pen and connect the dots." It's always good when characters aren't stupid for the sake of moving the plot along.

...and I always read where pens are from!

    What Dhulli said. :(

Dexter's wife's murderer kills again in bumfuck3028, Nebraska. Dex immediately disappears for a week without explanation. He returns to work with a pen from bumfuck3028, Nebraska, and acts guilty when Debra questions him about it.

She'd have to be a retard not to realise the obvious. She's not only not a retard, she's actually a successful detective, and ferreting out the truth is her day-to-day job.

If your lover's ex was in Karney, Nebraska, and she suddenly disappears for a week and on her return you discover in her handbag a pen from a motel in Karney, Nebraska, aren't you going to ask the obvious question?

If they intend this season's big reveal to be the fact that Geller is a hallucination, I am gonna rage. And that does seem to be the path that they are taking. :(

It wouldn't be surprising. On another note, how many of you knew that the actors who play Dexter and Debra were married?

A guy who puked all over a crime scene, a theif who sold evidence and now a guy possibly obsessed with the ice truck killer. Never let Masuka pick the help again.

Not just obsessed with the Ice Truck Killer, he is a huge Dexter fanboy too.

Makes me suspect that he at least knows the Brian/ Dexter connection.

He is very skilled with computers, it is possible in his search to learn more about the ITK he found about Dexter that way.

    Called it.

I just hope this wasn't their grand reveal and they might still surprise me.

I think the grand reveal will have something to do with that Dexter fanboy/lab assistant.

Well I didn't call it at all. Like, not even a bit. Took me a second to realise that nobody had actually seen him apart from Travis.
