It's like his magic is lazy. It will respond to the dark arts or life-threatening situations easily, but it doesn't see the point in acting when it's unnecessary -- in a placid classroom setting to please a teacher, for instance.

That was the whole point of the arm-breaking experiment. He easily healed himself when he needed to, but his magic saw no reason to heal the broken broom.

I think I realize why Daphne is annoying me so much. I think she's reminding me of those annoying anime girls. Inoue is the first that pops to mind though she isn't that bad.

I like almost everything about this story, except for the characters. Other than Harry, most of them just annoy me, the exception being Blaise and Tonks.

Other than that, the story is good and it's really drawing me in. I just can't help but feel that Harry is relying too much on his artifacts. Are they even going to be allowed in the tournament?

The best thing that could happen for this story is for Blaise, 'Trace' and 'Daph' to all get Kissed by a Dementor. I can't stop myself from skimming literally every scene that has them in it and I have no idea whatsoever what they contribute to the story.

As entertaining the story is at the moment I still wait for an explanation for its starting point. Is this some WBL story? If yes, how did Dumbledore manage to manipulate reality there and why? If not, what's Dumbledore's purpose with Harry and the Dursleys at all? Dumbledore obviously has something planned with Harry but for what purpose?

Neville is the BWL. Dumbledore didn't accidentally make a mistake and chose the wrong boy from the wrong family. In this story we aren't dealing with another shitty manipulative Dumbledore. From what I can see so far, he's pretty much like his canon-equivalent. Harry went to the Dursley's because they are his remaining family. Dumbledore believes the best of people and I don't think that he'd expected the Dursleys to treat him that way.

And Dumbledore's plan for Harry? Redemption. No matter how understandable Harry's crimes were, he still killed people and Dumbledore regrets that. He got him out of Azkaban on false pretenses so that he could save him.

    That's my opinion at least.

I don't know. It seemed like Dumbledore was still considering Harry with the prophecy and that's a reason why he got him out of prison. When Harry broke into his mind at the trial the prophecy was what was on his mind.

True enough, I forgot about that. This opens up several avenues actually, there are a lot of potential reasons for the prophecy to be on his mind during the trial.

So, I finally ended up reading past chapter 1. This story is awesome. I love how it transitions from trying to be far too over the top dark and evil, into something a tad more palatable.

Unlike everyone else here, I actually really really love the three sidekicks, Daph, Trace and Blaise. I don't know why, but I find Tracy hilarious. And daph is just interesting. They haven't fucked me off massively yet, which really is something quite positive.

Looking forward to the next updates. The writing really is surprisingly good.

I would agree with you, but the recently introduced 'Diva mode' has somewhat soured the character of Daphne. Such an out-of-place concept and introduced so ridiculously. It just ruined my suspension of disbelief and pulled me out of the fic. Christ, I mean Diva mode? Really?

Other than that, its certainly not bad.

I don't think it's that ridiculous. I knew a crapload of girls who acted just like that in their teens. And while I don't know that anyone called it "Diva mode" specifically we certainly used similar terms. They (aside from Harry who was in Azkaban) are 14 year old kids. It's a fairly accurate reflection of the age group.

I don't mean the fact that a teenage girl has mood swings and occasionally becomes more headstrong than usual. I mean the fact the term 'Diva-mode' was used. Its perhaps the silliest and most incongruous term the author could have possible used. It devalues the story of any moodiness and tone, and also breaks immersion.

I actually like these sporadic indications of character when they appear, but the stupidity of the phrase and the over-use of it as well, is irritating. Its happened, and been referenced to as such, about five times in the last couple chapters.

Yeah, I get how it might be a tad annoying, however I did find it pretty ignorable. I only really noticed it said 2 or 3 times.

I really don't like how the guy that considers himself a god among ants consistently folds to this girl just because she gets an attitude. Also where's diva mode when she's cowering behind that mask with Draco? It seems like Daphne is biting Tracy's head off every other time she opens her mouth as well.

The Diva Mode irks me a bit as well, but I just ignore it. As for her interactions with Draco, it is implied that she can't be a total bitch to him because of political repercussions.

Another teenage girl and their 15 year old guy friend use the term. There's nothing incogruous about that. It's exactly the sort of silly term a teenage girl would use to describe a headstrong, take charge, steamroll over objection girlfriend.

It would be out of place if an adult or teenager was using it. They aren't. When Harry uses it the author is using it as a way to highlight his difficulty reading normal teenage situations. I don't find it immersion breaking at all. And not everything needs to be constant moodiness and angst. In fact that's the fastes way to ruin a story.

I'm not saying the story can't have lighter moments, I'm just saying that Diva-mode sounds stupid. If they were at some random school in Essex then it would probably go unnoticed.

But did you ever hear the word Diva used in the books? When you think of magic, and Harry Potter, do you think "Wow, that character is such a diva." No. You don't. Thats because its a completely muggle term that has no place in Hogwarts, and especially in Slytherin. Its just out of place. Imagine if in Santi's fic, when Calypso is going over the top Harry and Victor just turn to each other and shake their heads, muttering "Diva-mode."

It would be fucking retarded. And its just as stupid here.

Though seriously, I'm not sure why we're arguing over this. Obviously neither of us is going to change our minds, so lets agree to disagree. I don't want to fully ruin this thread.

Updated. Nothing particularly original (though, interestingly enough, the blood transfiguration used during the fight is very similar to the way it's used in my story, but it was written before mine was).

    Still good, though.

Yeah, I definitely enjoyed the new chapter.

I must say, I don't actually really think i've read a redo of the task where Harry actually kills the dragon. Apart from the Denarian series of course, but that hardly counts.

Still, it's all well written enough.

The only ones I've seen where he kills the dragon are the !GodHarry stories that are way past the border of ridiculously stupid.

I am loving this story though and the fight with the dragon was amazing. I'm glad that he put more thought into his plan than just overpowering his spells (even though it didn't succeed).
