The fact that Kakashi entered this fight makes me believe that Tobi may really be Obito. Without him seeing Tobi's face would mean nothing to Bee and Naruto.

 

Everything other than kakashi and guy was annoying. I don't see them being much use against Tobi but I bet they can do some damage against the beasts. Its sad but Kakashi and Guy are still far more dangerous than Naruto, despite Naruto being hands down the strongest ninja on the field in terms of chakra. With Jiraiyas death Kakashi is definitely Konohas best ninja with Guy 2nd and then Naruto simply because Naruto isn't reliable in the slightest. This is not counting the hokage.

 

I suspect Kamui's taken another level up just to keep the ability viable since we saw it against Sasuke last, perhaps having expanded into something in the same field as Tobi's warping ability. Just having a Sharingan ain't going to cut it against the Rinnegan at this point.

 

Annoying. Really, really annoying.

Naruto didn't do anything other than get smacked around and look utterly ridiculous. But I suppose that if Naruto were to really fight the way his power implies he can - and Bee being the BAMF that he is - the war would be over pretty damn quick. I don't see how (excepting Edo!Madara) both of them simultaneously can get beaten, even by the tailed-beasts two through seven.

Ergo, it looks like Naruto's always going to be a clumsy idiot and is never going to win a fight on his own steam (discounting the Nagato fight). Cuz if he were to fight full steam, he'd beat everyone by himself.

And I also think that Naruto is being stalled somewhat by the author. I guess the ultimate stage for him would be complete control over the Nine-Tails (like Bee has with the Eight-Tails) and that would be the end of the manga.

 

Maybe this was mentioned in the manga and I simply forgot, but why would Naruto been defeated if Tobi had just touched him in his face?

 

He can warp space and time to teleport things into another dimension where they die. Maybe that's what he meant.

I understand Naruto being 'handicapped' from using all the clones and what not, but goddamn he can't do shit! He's just proved that he's very durable, but that's about it.

 

With physical contact, Tobi could have transported Naruto to his pocket dimension. That would have been game over for Naruto, since he would have had no way to escape and as such would have been utterly at Tobis mercy. Its also why Kakashi and Gai attacked when they did. Tobi needs to leave his "phased" state and become physical(and therefore vulnerable) in order to dimension-jump. K&G were hoping to catch Tobi off guard and hurt/kill him while he was preparing to transport Naruto (and therefore had become touchable).

Yeah, this whole chapter was annoying. What happened to the super-speed that Naruto was supposed to have while in KCM? Why was he not able to dodge a single attack/Tobi. Why was he so incompetent that he was not even able to get a single blow in. Why did he not use FRS or any of the multiple rasengan variants he has already demonstrated. His showing here was beyond pathetic.

The whole thing is annoyingly inconsistent writing, the way Narutos strength jumps all over the place. And whats worse is that it was not even required here. Naruto could have fought better, disabled couple of edo!jins by removing the rods and still have been overrun in the end, and the plot would have remained the same, with the exception that Naruto would not have suddenly become utterly incompetent after doing good against the Raikage and others such as Madara in the form of his clone(s).

 

How was Tobi able to phase through Naruto this time with Naruto in his Kyuubi cloak phase when he wasn't able to before?

You mean the moment when he phased his hand into Naruto's head? Well, he said that he was out of his phasing technique at that moment, so whatever he was doing it was something different and Kyuubi cloak didn't protect from it.

 

Was it said anywhere that Kyuubi cloak did anything to prevent it?

I figure Tobi just did not activate the phase!mode, either because he was startled at Narutos sudden arrival/speed due to KCM(unlikely), or because he knew how tough his new mask was and wanted to whack Naruto hard in the head.

Maybe thats why Naruto did so poorly here. Tobi actually gave him brain damage with that blow. All beginning to make sense.

Naah, I think Tobi went out of phasing mode in order to touch Naruto so he could send him into his dimensional prison. However Kakashi and Gai attacked him at that moment, forcing him to phase again to avoid their attacks. Thats why his hand slipped inside Narutos head, because he had been touching Naruto and going immaterial so suddenly caused his (suddenly intangible) hand to slip inside Narutos head. You can actually see this effect more clearly by the fact that Gais leg goes through Tobi at the exact same moment.

Tobi says that he should have slipped through Naruto during the headbutt, so I assumed that Naruto's Kyuubi chakra prevented him from doing so. Now it seems that either Kishimoto forgot that point or Naruto did something else to prevent him from slipping through... without he himself realizing it?

 

It's probably fault of wrong translation. I doubt that Kishimoto forget what was 2 chapter ago and made simple mistake.

 

Or it could be that what Tobi meant was that he should have slipped through, but chose not to as he wanted to test Narutos strength, only to find it disappointing since Naruto did not even manage to scratch his mask, making the test a waste of time to Tobi and explaining his words (as in not that he was unable to slip through, but rather that he should have rather than bothered with a test). It is a bit unclear, and its also a translation which always makes anything like this a bit iffy. But unless you speak the language and check the original version, we don't know the exact 100% precise meaning behind what Tobi said.

Personally, I am more curious why Tobi shows no effects from repeated physical contact with Naruto. I mean its generally thought that Tobi is atleast partially composed of Zetsu matter (the way he easily discards limbs, etc). And we know what Narutos Kyuubi aura does to that. Admittedly, it would be rather pathetic (if amusing) for Tobi to turn into a tree, but you would expect some effect atleast, even if weak. Maybe Tobi is not composed of Zetsu matter afterall.

 

It's been said that Tobi has mastered Hashirama's DNA. Perhaps Zetsu hasn't?
