Thanks, Pers, some stories I wouldn't have thought of.

Saw this thread and thought I'd add to it, even though it's been idle for nearly a week.

Looking thru my favorites and the stories already posted, I'd add the following:

On the Way to Greatness by mira mirth - Yes, I always recc this fic, but it's exceptionally well done, and it fits your criteria.

Happiness in Azkaban by Myst Shadow - a nice one-shot about Harry and Sirius.

Hocus Pocus, Adele Polkiss by Ecmm - might be just right for a younger reader to enjoy. The writer has the minds of children down pretty well, IMO.

HP & the Deathly Hallows Redux by vah32 - hands-down the best DH replacement fic I've seen, and it has a lot of thought put into it. In my honest opinion, it's better than the DH we got from Rowling.

There are more, but I'm pressed for time.

Dear Lara - kid friendly as far as I remember, has Harry being raised by Lara Croft who's Lilly's cousin or some such. I remember it being ok.

He's Not Normal - not finished but my 12 year old sister read it and laughed till she was almost sick.

Adrift in a World - I'm sure most of you read this, just dark enough for a 12 year old to enjoy I reckon and devoid of most of the time-travel cliches.

Thats all I can find on my favourites for Harry Potter at least.

I can't help but remember the kind of fanfiction I was reading at age 12 and earlier....definitely had no one there to pick out 'appropriate' stories.

Who are you finding stories for, T3t? And how are they going to be reading them? I ask because if they read on FFN, they could easily search out more stories (well, if they like it, and are fairly competent...some 12 year olds are admittedly quite stupid). And we all know the kind of shit that's on FFN.

Anyway, you might want to consider having it all in an ebook, or word document, or something of that nature. Depends on how worried you are about fanfiction corrupting your little friend...

Thanks for this rec. This was entertaining as hell, and the plot was very well thought out.

I not sure how I managed to not stumble across this on my own.

I wouldn't advise Dragonmasters for a 12 year old unless they were particularly mature. The strong themes of depression, racism and suicide that a prevalent in the early chapter would likely go well over their heads and they would probably have difficulty relating to anything that was going on.
