I was going to mention that the most damning evidence against Harry's name being anything but Harry is that his Hogwarts letter was addressed to Harry, and not Harold. Official correspondences almost always use the given name on a birth certificate and not the shortened version.

That, more than anything, tells me that Harry's name is Harry, and not Harold.

 

Personally, the title of the books was always enough for me.

I would side with Dwitty, that its perhaps the most canonical proof we have.

 

At his sorting they called out Harry Potter so I always just assumed that was his name.

Sorry, but where is the confusion as to his name coming from? At no point in the books is it indicated in any way that his name is anything other than Harry.

I've been reminded today about one of my worst pet peeves ever.

When the author makes the males out to be some kind of slaves to women. Everyone knows that Ron doesn't know when to shut up. So why would you have him always submitting to Hermione because of her "Death Glares"?

I'm not trying to be sexist, but both males and females or equals. Stop making Harry hide behind Sirius in some cheap attempt at humor that only serves to piss people off.

 

May I revise this a tad?

Two reasons I didn't worry about putting my full name up here.

1. There are shitloads of people named Jason R Lewis out there, and quite a few instances of Jason Ray Lewis as well, even just in Ohio.
