    Post Mortem

In all honesty, this is a fantastic story - far, far above the usual quality of the author's writing. The only reason I'm not submitting this for review is because of future promised slash - so readers beware, if you can't stomach that in the future don't bother reading this. It's just finished year one.

There's a lot to recommend this story - first, and most importantly, the characterizations are good. The secondary characters are well-developed and interesting, and Ron is hilarious (though some of his habits will undoubtedly piss some people off). Necromancy is looked at with a fresh eye, and isn't something that turns Harry into Super!Harry. Necromancy's relationship with the Deathly Hallows is also unique, and actually makes a lot of sense.

One thing that bothers me is the wind - not the concept itself, but the way it's used at the very end. That's about it, though.

That's really a solid recommendation. The writing just leaps out and grabs you, several paragraphs in.

It's just unimaginably fucked up, little Harry's life. Sinister, and unbelievably tragic. So major props for a major opening.

The wind thing is annoyingly abstract and vague.

The verses for the poems describing the four winds were terrible. 'top highest' lol

It's a little overblown. There are a lot of stupid things that are peculiar to slash, like Lily likening Harry - her male child, in other words a boy - to her beautiful little porcelain doll. Please.

Yeah, some of it's a bit eh, but I think that's more because the author is a female than because it's slash. Then again, those two go hand in hand fairly often...

Ugh, such a promising recommendation followed by "Eventual Veela!Draco and definite slash" in the summary. Can't say I wasn't warned I guess.

Still, sounds good enough to read until something squicks me the wrong way I guess. Will edit with comments.

Have not finished yet, but worth a read. As others have said, wind is really annoying, but not enough to stop me reading...yet.

I really liked the first year. I'm not looking forward toward eventual veela!slash, but the entire story was sick and twisted from the first paragraph.

Well, there's the only good HarryxVeelaDraco that will ever be. Damn fine writing though; grabbed me early and kept me reading. I don't look forward to the slash either if it ever updates again, but the story is delightfully fucked up

Post Mortem, so far, is surprising good. The author's writing style is polished and just grabs your attention in a way that many fics fail to do. It's a shame that the summary warns of the eventual slash and veela!Draco, but I'm actually going to read this fic until I get up to point where these plot points become relevant.

I fucking loved Post Mortem. While the dialogue seems weird in places (too casual), it's just beautifully written and no character bashing to boot. Definite 5/5.

I was pleasantly surprised with Post Mortem. It is insanely fucked up, but extremely well written. I love how there is no character bashing and everyone seems to be in-character.

I've read works from this author before, she tends to write primary slash but isn't very graphic about it, hopefully it is the same here. I really don't get why it has to be slash... -sigh-

I'll give it a read, due to the rec's here, but the slash warning makes me very wary.

I'll probably just keep reading it until the slash factor is introduced in proper - may as well enjoy a good thing while it lasts, eh?

I can't remember if this has been recommended yet or not, but I don't think it has.

Stages of Hope by kayly silverstorm - Professor Sirius Black, Head of Slytherin house, is confused. Who are these two strangers found at Hogwarts, and why does one of them claim to be the son of Lily Lupin and that git James Potter? Dimension travel AU, no pairings so far.

Like most everything else the author writes, the main characters are a bit OOC (usually with background info to explain it) and slightly crazy/over-powered. The basic premise is that Harry and Hermione show up at Hogwarts in another dimension when they're around 19 or so, and they're pretty badass but also pretty emotionally unstable/weird. The split from canon happened around the time of Bill's Wedding, but this was covered in an Author's note not the actual story.

I'm not a fan of the Author's most famous work, When a Lioness Fights, but I do like their other story (Had I Known) that I have put up in "Almost Recommended" before. None of them are probably what DLP would put into a library though -- they tend to be full of little errors, cliches, going overboard, etc.

But that said... I've read this three times now, because it's just fun. I have a damn good time reading it despite the problems, and sometimes that's good enough for me.

Personally I put it at 4/5, but most other folks are probably going to rate it more along the lines of 2-2.5/5. It is what it is.

Yeah, I have it on alert, because it's kinda good, but not so good, their unbalanced emotions irk me a little, it's not done tastefully, it overbears the other aspects of the story. On the other hand Snape reactions are funny.

    I would give it a 3/5

Yeah, one thing that really gets me is that I think the AU-break is too close. That only gives them 2 years or so to morph from canon-characters into this. It'd have been more believable if the break had been a year or three earlier. Especially since by the time the AU splits off most of the people who could have taught them how to be this badass were dead.

I quite liked it. The insanity isn't quite as coherent as it should be, and there seems to be something off with the AU which I can't quite place my finger on. That said, the AU characters are glorious. Snape in burgundy...

Stages of Hope was insane enough for me to like.
If you want me to have positive thought about something, give me an insane character as one of the lead. Instant addiction for me. Of course, some people can't do it right, so it might not work. (but 90% of it does) One of the reasons I like most of Lunas people write.
Snape and Sirius were kind of funny.
Harry hugging Lupin and Sirius was hilarious.

Post Mortem, come on, now I'm both attracted and repulsed... Why do you make it so hard? I hope it's worth the risk... I'll give it a read someday.

    Nauro

Edit: Alright, Post Mortem looks awesome at the start. God damn it.

Whilst the premise is somewhat vaguely amusing, the writing is mediocre at best and fails to carry the humour.
