Only games I've enjoyed this year have been Dark Souls, Portal 2 and MW3 tbh. The BF3 beta was okay, got bored pretty quick though.

Skyrim wins by far, with Dark Souls and Portal 2 vying for second.

At the moment, Portal 2 is looking like the GOTY for me. Surpassed all of my expectations and had a phenomenal ending. However I did play it just a few days ago, so maybe my perspective is a little... fresh.

Playing through Arkham City right now. Once I beat it we'll see where it stands. Great so far though.

Skyrim and Deus Ex: HR get honorable mentions.

Dragon Age 2 gets "Worst Game of the Year, All Years."

Tied with SW: TOR. Because what they've done to Revan and The Exile can't be forgiven or forgotten.

Honstly? I can't stand Skyrim. It's so boring, I feel like i'm slogging through the game when I played. It did not live up to it's own hype.

    Maybe you should try Nintendogs?

Anyway. It's Skyrim. It will be Skyrim. In 90% of GoTY awards it will be Skyrim until an editor goes full hipster and decides to go against the trend and pick some random platform that nobody's heard of.

EDIT: This thread would have greatly benefited from a poll.

Portal 2 is Fantastic, but it just didn't have the.. oomph.. of the original, for me. I'd say it gets an honorable mention.

Both fantastic games, Skyrim devoured me for weeks.

I understand it was a disappointment to many, but lets not be melodramatic here.

Can we avoid a Butthurt Revan Fanboys tag in this thread, please?

For me, I'm going to have to say that GoTY is looking like Skyrim, even though I personally enjoy SW:ToR more, Skyrim is just such a fantastic game that one I can't deny it's the best.

Seratin, how is the fact that I don't like Skyrim related to Nintendogs?

I did enjoy Skylander this year, so I'd vote for that if it were an option. Fun mulit-player, a lot of characters and options, and while it is a money sink (and designed for children, which is blatantly obvious as you play) it's still pretty satisfying. And also, the voice acting makes me laugh and play along.

As I've yet to play fully through Skyrim it's hard to rate it. But Battlefield 3 was the first fps to draw me back into the genre since early cs up until 1.6. I find myself actively enjoying the multiplayer even solo. The only problem for BF3 is the single player campaign is highly lacking and when I finally find the time to give Skyrim a proper run I'm sure BF3 will go to number two for me.

I'm going to have to go with Batman: Arkham City.

Easily the most fun game I played this year.

Skyrim gets game of the year.

Dark Souls gets most soul crushingly difficult game of the year.

    Shit comeback.

Anyways, Skyrim but Uncharted 3 is really really fucking close. I can't say for certain yet, seeing as I have over 40 hours on Skyrim and I've only played Uncharted for five hours (since I unpacked it this morning). I think Skyrim wins due to its open nature, but Uncharted makes me feel like Indiana fucking Jones but cooler.

I haven't played Uncharted, and probably never will, since I don't have a PS3...but Uncharted gets an honourable mention for being the only series that looks like it would be good enough to justify switching consoles.

After sinking fifty hours into skyrim I can honestly say there was nothing really memorable about it to me. The odd amusing bug or glitch is all that sticks to mind, the story was bland, the combat was easily broken, and the design for the UI was so frustrating at times I felt I spent more in the menus then playing the game. The only really redeeming factor about the game is its pretty and fun to explore. That's not a game of the year game to me, personally, I would say bastion is my vote, been months since I've played it but I still can look back and honestly say I loved it for all it was.

I just realised how poor this year has been for games. Skyrim takes GOTY for me, but only because all the others I played were average at best. After the first week, I pretty much gave up on playing Skyrim, whereas I played Oblivion and Morrowind for years.

Skyrim was great, but the sheer number of bugs prevent me from giving it my GOTY. Old Republic is a strong contender, but I don't really want to give it to a game that just officially came out yesterday.

To me, the clear choice is Arkham City. Great gameplay, great story, great voices, great everything.
