On the Kurama character from Yu Yu Hakusho:

TL;DR, it's Kishi referencing Togashi's and Toriyama's mangas most likely.

kishi's ran out of original ideas and as to go borrow ideas from other mangas which really suck. At the start of this war I thought yes we've finally reached epic showdown but btw really stupid supposedly legendary characters (ginkaku and Kinkaku come to mind), sappy edo tensei sasori and hanzo) and really annoying character who really should die (chouji and hinata).

The thing about naruto is that after all this years almost no-one has any real character development ( except shikamaru and gaara), hinata and sakura are still irritating fangirls, sasuke is the annoying emo boy with fancy eyes and the main character is stiil stupid even more so, its as if he is supposed to use the power of love to defeat all his opponents

Ok, to summarise. There is first of all some kind of 'shared mindspace' between Bijuu, which further reinforces the shitty mindscape aspect of the mange I'd rather forget.

Second, not only do the bijuu, gigantic, split parts of one entity (that i think is nameless) have individual names, they are both references to other series.

Third, even more evidence that the giant monstrosities that terrify even the strongest ninja were a big band of bros who probably had a nakama or some other stupid shit.

This is terrible. It seems like all of the accomplishments and efforts of everyone is being completely overshadowed by these completely new characters that ruin the backstory of the entire manga. Christ.

So much whine. I liked the chapter. Add's much needed depth to the whole 'hate-filled chakra monster thing'.

Honestly don't think he's referencing YYH and DBZ so much as he's drawing from the same pool, but whatever. I still liked the chapter alright. Shitload better than Bleach was, anyways.

Son Goku = Japanese Sun Wukong, people, famous monkey character from the Chinese novel Journey to the West. It's taking names from mythology nothing more. The manga already has a Orochimaru, a Jiraiya and a Tsunade; are we really surprised he's taking a few more?

Okay chapter over all but not much happened.

I like to think that there is a difference between paying homage and shoehorning stuff he likes into his story as much as he can.

Except it’s nothing of the sort. There’s no shoehorning. It’s just a name. The four tailed monkey was established chapters ago and the concept of multi tailed animals from the very starts. It’s like bitching about an author calling his fairy king character Oberon, when the existence of the character himself was established books ago.

I think everyone would accept Son Goku as simply the Japanese name for 'Sun Wukong', but Kurama has no connection to foxes that I can see in Japanese mythology. But I will point out again the existence of a Mount Kurama in Japan with ties to Tengu demons (AKA Susanoo) and the element of fire. Kyuubi is associated with Hi no Kuni (Fire Country) and with the ocular powers of the Uchiha, so 'Kurama' could be somewhat mythological. Though revealing two names from other popular animes in a single chapter is suspicious.

They have had several meetings since then. You would think Kyuubi would have ordered Naruto to use his real name.

As for Shukaku, if you go back and check, Gaara actually says that Shukaku was the spirit of some priest from his village. It only became a bijuu later on, when the second series started. Thats why he had a name from the start.

I feel that there is a major difference. Having Enma who turns into a staff, the sannin with their animal themes and even weapons and techniques were nice touches. But the names of the bijuu being Son Goku and Kurama, who, next to their mythological meaning, are also manga characters from two big manga/anime just felt forced.

And you can mention the mythologies over and over again, but when someone says Son Goku, I think of the manga first and the legend second, despite knowing the origin of the name.

I'd think that this is the case with most people.

I also don't buy this "all the kyuubi wanted was friendship/respect/love from his hosts" thing towards which this seems to aim at.

---------- Post automerged at 01:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:00 PM ----------

Kakashi also said that the Sharingan evolved from the Byakugan and clearly that's wrong as well.

It seems to me, if this whole jyuubi thing is true, than the sand village people were simply wrong about that and didn't know about the Sage and his role.

Or, Kishi changed his mind quite a lot and this whole jyuubi mess was added at the last second/ way after writing part I.

Kishi writes primarily for the Japanese readership, and I don't think they would agree that the first thing they think about when they hear 'Son Goku' is the protagonist from DB/Z/GT. Sun Wukong's tale is a popular story in Japan, like King Arthur in the West, I suppose. When I read the name 'King Arthur', the first thing that comes to mind isn't this.

I do agree, though, that the Tailed Beasts being sensitive and misunderstood creatures at heart is a load of crap and disappointing.

    Edit: Ninja'd, sort of.

Not really. He'd already decided that Naruto was just like the rest of the hosts (which was true to a point) so there'd be no point.
