    Absurdly so, I have never once in my life known of a first grader who'd even heard of Stevie Wonder or the Three Musketeers.

    Depends on the parents a lot. When I was 11 I knew all the band members of Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones and what Celine Dion's latest single was, all because my parents were fans. Plus we had a huge collection of classic books (The Three Musketeers was one of my favourite stories as a kid).
