Voldemort wont be killed. I reckon all harry will do is destroy the Horcruxs and escape from a final duel with the Dark Lord. Since Voldemort will only have a fragment of soul left, he will experience the thing 'worse than death'

EDIT: I must apologise, this comment was meant for another thread. I accidently placed it here. For the record it was supposed to be in the 'And the power the dark lord knows not is....'

That's probably right...that or Harry will destroy the Horcruxes that are placed in absurdly obvious places with little to no protection and go turn Voldy into a muggle with a spell created by uber-smart-superwoman-Hermione!!!!!!1!one! powered by Harry's love for the dirty red-headed slut. :puke:

    Another thing,
Harry will not feel the need to spill his gits and tell Ron and Herm everything that he is thinking just because they say....but Were your friends, or, you shouldnt keep secrets from us.
That annoys me to NO end
Harry should be able to stand up for himself enough so that he doesnt need to be getting Herms and Rons approval for everything in life.

About that one, I never minded him going on a cutting streak, or such things....as long as that doesnt make up the entire plot of the story. As long as he gets past his angst, I dont think it should be outlawed.
So, maybe a rewording of that one!!

    - If one or more characters in your story share (extremely) similar physical characteristics to the author, they are deemed a 'Sims' character and shall be thence ignored by the reader.

    - If two or more characters enjoy extremely desirable physiscal and social characteristics they shall henceforth be known as Mary-Sue (female) and/or Gary-Stu (male) and the fic shall be rendered null and void.

    - Hogwart's wards are both ancient and powerful. Let it be noted that these wards cannot be abolished by adolescent wizards who have been running for one month.

    - Revealing two pieces are not standard Hogwarts attire. Neither are tattoos that have been dubbed 'cool' by the offending author. Let it be noted that Mary-Sues and Gary-Stus (see above) are not exempt from this rule.

Too true, but then, how the hell are you supposed to know if someone shares such characteristics unless the aurthor is nobbish enough to reveal it

You don't undertand how painstakingly obvious it is. Usually they're adored by everyone and have a lot of 'cool' and 'techno' stuff like ipods that run off magic. Plus they're unbelievably beautiful and/or handsome.

Touché. That is a definatley a Potter Law policy that should be passed.

Do you reckon is someone wrote a fic governed by Potter Law, it would actually be any good?

As much as I hate to say it, It would be pretty hard to write a good story with all these boundaries. Im not saying that its impossible, just that it would get really hard. Weve managed to outlaw most things which authors use to get their stroy going. From inheritance to workin out and becoming strong practically overnight.

Would it be possible...Yes....would it be difficult.....Oh Hell Yea!!!!

Not really...most of these are just outlandish cliches that authors use trying to make their characters cool and interesting. The only problem that I personally have with working out is that Harry turns into an Adonis in the space of one summer...if he works out for the last two years of his schooling and then has the cut body of a Greek God, then that's okay. And the inheritance thing is logical, but has been taken way to far by way too many authors.

Still, though, I agree that it would be hard to do, but if someone were to manage it...

You know what'd be hilarious? If Harry found out he was filthy rich but the inheritance tax on it took the vast majority of it away. To the ministry no less. >_<

-There will be no mysterious American exchange students who are taught that dark magic is really just misunderstood and are powerful enough to beat Voldie's inner circle without breaking a sweat will arrive and mesmerize Harry into doing nothing but drooling over them for the year. If, by any small and insignificant chance, there are some exchange students from America they will must NOT be named after the author and her friends (as the authers of these are always love sick, preteen Yanks whio have a crush on anything with a British accent (P.S. We do NOT all speak like Hugh-fucking-Grant)).

-Severitus is, as the name suggests, a disease of the mind. Thus, logically, all stories including Severus Snape as the father of Harry Potter are the products of diseased and twisted minds.

-If Harry Potter uses something other than magic to kill people, be it guns, swords, lightsabers, kitchenware, or thermonuclear devices 'borrowed' from ex-Soviet facilities; they will be treated just as they are: instruments used by Harry to inflict death and destruction upon his enemies, not as the focal point of the story's plot.

    Laws of Ministry Efficiency

Rule One: The Ministry of Magic is not a bumbling and inept organization. While certain individuals may exhibit negative qualities, the Ministry of Magic itself does not reflect these individuals and is an efficient and capable agency.

Subsection One: Auror's are highly trained and specialised wizards and witches who have undertaken grueling courses to obtain their position. Therefore, it can be expected that a standard Auror's vocabulary is not limited to two spells and that they are capable and skilled wizards and witches.

Subsection Two: The Ministry of Magic is able to detect magical activity in England. It is illogical to consider that the Ministry of Magic is limited in its magical detection with warded homes and charmed wands.

Subsection Three: If the Ministry of Magic falls underneath the onslaught of Lord Voldemort's army, then the magical government of England has been overthrown and taken over. While members of the former government may flee to safer areas, such as Hogwarts, in effect, the government has collapsed.

Foreign Cultures of the Wizarding World

Rule Two: The Wizarding World of England has been around for at least a thousand years. Therefore, foriegn nations, most which are much younger that England, are not superior to England and do not impact heavily onto modern Wizarding Society within England.

Subsection One: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: While most American fanfiction writers are fond of portraying America as the perfect magical society, in actual fact, it is not. In Canon, it has never been revealed if the United States of America even has a Wizarding Society.
In Fanon, if there is an American Wizarding Society and Ministry of Magic, then it was most likely created by the settlers from Britain several hundred years ago. This means that it is highly doubtful that they are extraordinarily different to Britain with regards to ethics, ideology and magic.

They are also not the immediate resolution of all of England's concerns.

Subsection Two: JAPAN: Due to the increasing influence of Japanese anime on western society, many fanfiction writer's have displayed a tendency to incorporate Asian influences into their stories. However, in a realistic post-World War 2 society, it is the Japanese who incorporate Western influences into their society.
    Therefore, it is unrealistic to have characters acting in a decidedly 'Japanese anime' manner, which includes;
    - Sweat Drops
    - Falling over when something embarrassing is said
    - Using honorary Japanese suffixes, such as -san, -chan,
    - Wearing Japanese or Asian style clothing
    - Cat-people
    - Using Chopsticks
Japan, also, does not hold the key to every long lost magical secret. Lord Voldemort did not hide a Horcrux in Japan and Harry will not find powerful magical artifact’s that hold the key to destroying the aforementioned Dark Lord.

    Or In Other Terms.....

Rule 1: Don't make the Ministry a stupid and powerless organisation. They run a fucking country for god sakes! That's got to count for something.

R1, S1- Auror's will know some spells beyond Expelliarmus, Stupefy, Petrificus Totalus, etc... Auror's shouldn't be used as cannon fodder and most should be able to defeat a standard Death Eater easily!
R1, S2- Stories where wands and homes that are warded and charmed allow the Ministry to detect magic only within the wards or charm are complete crap! If we follow that line of reasoning, then any wizard or witch could go on a killing spree within Muggle London and never get caught.
R1, S3- If Voldemort captures the Ministry of Magic...kiss the fucking country goodbye! The Ministry runs the damn country! It has clearly shown before that it is able to bypass Hogwarts in matters of legislation. If Voldemort sets himself up as the newly crowned ruler of England, then it doesn't matter what happens at Hogwarts, Voldemort rules the country! The war between Voldemort and the Ministry is a civil war. The victor of a civil war wins control of the country.

R2- Stop sticking other Wizarding nations in the story. Nobody cares about patriotic preaching in stories! Most stories I've read shows Britain to be stupid and [Insert nation of writer] to be great. It gets annoying.

R2, S1- It should be pretty straightforward. America is not the ultimate magical power of the world. They're only 300 years old! Unlike the Muggle Government, a Magical Government is America has no superior weapons technology that rivals other countries!
At the end of the day, American Warlock's don't mean shit...

R2, S2- Read the list. If I see any of them in a story....then wham! The story gets closed. Seriously, some writer's need to get away from the crappy anime and into real life...if somebody ever falls over because something embarrassing happened, then I hope they break their neck! And Japanese clothing......it's ugly! I've only seen this done well a couple of times before, and that story only had the clothing in it.
    Sweat drops.......what a fucking moron.....

A Detail. We know that some charms can be used to hide an object or a person (Like Sirius did for himself after his escape), and the minister *said* that they detected the use of magic, not the person who uses the magic.

Grin, i always like old chinese magicks or shamans, but the story must be well done (let me guess, you don't like Drt, do you?).

That is false Shezza88. In the Fourth Book there is some witches from The Salem Witches' Institute in Chapter Seven Bagman and Crouch pg. 82. You can't miss it. Not to mention several instances of American witches and wizards in the two reference books she produced for charity. The similarity in the attitude towards sports in the American muggle and wizarding world is blatantly obvious. But other then that I agree.

In response to the American thingy, the US is an ally of the UK in real life. It would make sense for it to be that way in canon/fanon if written properly.

    - Snape is a Deatheater. Lily is a Muggle Born. There is no way that Snape can become a Deatheater by being friendly/screwing a "contaminated" witch.

I'd just like to say that I agree with everything Shezza said, except of course for the Salem Witches Institute bit (although we really have no clue what the Salem Witches Institute is...).

-Seven year olds (and all young children) have a very short attention span and as such will not be dedicated to studying the intricacies of magic day in day out. In this way, unless time traveling has been involved, an 11 year old entering Hogwarts cannot know more magic than Albus Dumbledore (yes, I'm talking to you Stained).

And, while I'm thinking of Stained:

-LEDs cannot be changed into lightsabers.
