At the risk of not actually saying anything pertinent, I would just like to comment that this previous page of just complete Elder Scrolls geek-off has been some awesome reading.

True, I suppose, insofar as religion goes.

IMO, this difference is irrelevant given the fact that Alduin isn't a god, and only falsely claims to be an aspect of Akatosh, despite what the Nords think.

    EDIT: Also ninja'd by Exile.

Cool, but two questions: Is Ysmir in the Nord Pantheon the Underking? Or another different god? And two, why isn't Talos in the Nord Pantheon. You'd think he'd be huge there. Irrelevant in the greater conversation we're having, though.

No that's not the problem. It's deciding how to deal with "go to tombs and random locations to get dragon shouts and then go kill dragons to use the dragon shouts", deciding how to portray the Dragonborne (his character and his backstory and his race, etc...), the particular storyline framework I'm working on (combining the Dragon, Civil War, Markarth, Brotherhood, Mages storylines into one overarching framework) and a sequel.

    Indeed.

Okay, my laptop's running out of batteries so I'll make this quick.

The Nordic pantheon generally isn't worshipped anymore. It's an ancient religion that dates back to the First Age, and was the chief faith of the original Nord empire that spanned Skyrim after Ysgramor and his Companions conquered the region and stealing it from the Dwemer and Falmer (the original Snow Elves, not the perverted beasts of modern times). With the Empire being such a major feature in most of Tamriel, even in Skyrim, the original Nordic religion doesn't see the light of day much.

Talos is a very recent addition to the list of Divines.

Besides, hes worshipped all across Skyrim anyway.

Anyway, Ysmir in this sense refers to Wulfharth, who came to Skyrim from Atmora some time during the Second Age, essentially conquering the nation to reinstate the traditional Nordic pantheon instead of the faith of the Eight Divines that Alessia the Slave Queen installed after freeing the Cyrodilic Men from slavery at the hands of the Ayleids.

The Ayleids were mostly Daedra worshippers, but the humans in Cyrodiil worshipped as they did- they were their slaves for hundreds of years. To reconcile both her human followers and her Nord allies from Skyrim who helped her to conquer Cyrodiil, she created the Eight Divines, basically merging the Nordic pantheon with that of the elves.

And I have less than a minute left of battery so that's that.

The ancient Nords also had a period fo tieme where they worshipped dragons so that's where the dragon crypts come in.

I made a thread (Jon-sanctioned) to pool us a list of recommended/musthave mods. Sifting through this particular thread's a bit of a hassle, so I felt it was best to have the mods be organized separately.

    Linkage.

Ysmir is the Nord name for Talos - something they seem to have completely forgotten when making Skyrim. Ysmir is also Wulfarth, the Underking, a Shezzarine whose heart powered Tiber's brass god and one third of the Enantiomorphic Oversoul that is Talos.

So I've got this REALLY fucking weird glitch in my game..That I can't seem to get rid of. I've tried searching the net for it anywhere, but haven't been able to find it.

    >.>

Maybe one of you expert folks will know a solution/have heard of it.

It outlines like that over everything and it's driving me absolutely batty.

That is... really weird. Some more info would help, though. What platform, running any mods, etc. Does it only happen to creatures/NPC's? Could be a mesh or texture issue with a mod, but I don't know what those look like in Skyrim.

Asking for help here might be more productive by the way.

I've come across that myself, and the only solution I have is to restart the game. That fixes it for me.

    PC.

It happens regardless of Mods or Not.

Nope, happens regardless of NPCs, area, time of day, inside/outside, high or low graphic settings, first person or third person.. etc etc.

I've adjusted literally everything I can think of. x.x

Thanks for the Link, BTW. Wow, a lot of those people REALLY do not like this game.

Oh, I figured the black thing was a draugr or something covered in that. You're saying that is basically just imprinted on your screen? Strange.

Only thing I can think of is a reinstall, if you haven't already tried that. Or you could verify the integrity of the cache (right click on game in Steam, properties, local files tab, verify integrity of game cache). They're basically just general issue fixes, so I'm not quite sure what you could do if the issue persists.

And yeah, the Beth forums are full of people who just want to complain about the game, but there are some helpful people there, so that's where I'd go if nothing else works.

Your game is haunted. Hire a priest to exorcise it before the demon fully forms.

Have you checked your graphics card out? It could be a hardware issues instead of just game.

So yeah, I had a pretty good Holy Shit! moment last night when crossing a river, looking to the side, then turning back to see a sabre cat two feet from my face. The only reason I didn't lose a good portion of health while recovering was because the spasmodic twitch I gave accidentally hit the favourites menu key. :p

Another one I keep running into with low level characters is wandering around outside of Whiterun, turning a corner around an outcropping of rock, and walking face first into a giant's club.

So what are you most pants-shittingly scary moments in the game?

Not paying enough attention to hear the roar/music change, and having a dragon drop down right in front of my character.

This. Oh hell, this. Once, I was running around somewhere (in the Rift, IIRC) and turned aside without pausing to pick up the phone. I turn back after like half a minute, and there's this dragon in my face. I mean literally, close enough that the dragon's head fills up the entire screen. I jerked back so hard, I fell off my chair.

No accidentally lucky spasms for me, though. ;_; I had to reload to about 15 minutes before.

And there was this one time in a dungeon, I was in a loud area without headphones so I had turned down the sound. I'm passing by, and turn around to check behind an alcove, and there's a draugr deathlord a second from turning my face into mush. A hurried FUS gave me enough time to recover from that one, though.

Do the mobs scale with your level? I powerleveled the crap out of my smithing, and dumped most of my perks in there, as I was trying to roleplay a blacksmith turned adventurer. Now I notice I've got a few mobs that seem way stronger then they should, like Bandit Marauders. Standard engagement is sneak, arrow shot for 3x damage, usually another 3x shot before they're in my face, then pull out the one hander and heal spell and spend another 10 seconds+ beating the shit out of him almost dieing.

I know the dragons change, the low level brown ones were pretty easy, but the frost ones that I'm starting to see now can open up a can of whup ass before they land and I'm able to get into melee range.

Everything has a range of scaling; some stuff will only scale to 10 or whatever, and others will start at the 30s and scale up once you reach that.

Yeah, the mobs level as you do, so if you artificially raise your level like that then chances are you're going to be facing things way out of your league. Just imagine trying to face off against frost dragons without the advantage of the good spells/archery perks and increased health. On the other hand, if you just went out and levelled the shit out of smithing/enchanting/alchemy, chances are you could win the game without going over level 25 in any particular combat skill.

Scariest moment? Probably when, after a hard-won battle against a dragon, I was moving along, magically healing myself due to a lack of potions, when another dragon literally dropped out of the sky right in front of me.

Closely followed by an evil grin when I realised it was a frost dragon, and therefore pretty weak against my Nord.

On the other hand - and this is literally five minutes ago - heading towards Riverwood with my second character, a female Wood Elf. As I approach the gates, a guard starts shooting arrows at me. I run past him, and then the entire fucking town starts trying to kill me, while screaming about how I should have stayed in my precious forest, and that Skyrim belongs to the Nords. Despite creating the character for a crack at the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, I decided that this was a battle I wasn't interested in and ran away. Two of them followed me. There are two possible explanations for this. One - it's an example of the psychic guards, because I had killed a Thalmor Justicar squad and looted an old woman's house in the forest. Two - Riverwood is a town of hardcore racists.
