Seems that people at CBS are still going with their Holmes series and casted Jonny Lee Miller as the main character. A funny fact is that he recently played in Danny Boyle’s stage version of Frankenstein where he was alternating roles of the doctor and the monster between performances with no other but Benedict Cumberbatch.

This also means that the role of Watson is now down to three actors: Ian Holm, John Krasinski and Simon Jones. ;)

    Not in the United States.

Us Colonists haven't had the pleasure of watching Sherlock on TV. I guess that's what happens when you live out in the boondocks.

    So say we all.

That was my favorite episode of the season. The last was good, but of course they had to throw a cliffhanger in. And the first one was just too convoluted.

I know this is a bit of a bump, but I just finished watching both seasons of this series.

I was surprised at how well they did things. They made it really fit into the present day without losing the "feel" of Sherlock Holmes (and I've been a big fan of Holmes since childhood). I wasn't sure about the first episode or two, given some of the jarring changes, but it grew on me rather quickly and I suspect if I re-watch them they'll be even better.

Fans of the series will be able to predict a decent bit of what's going on at places. Things like the Five Pips, Irene Adler faking her death, Holmes 'dying' in a fall, etc. are all things from the original stories but done well enough that it seemed new again. There were other things as well, and I'm pretty sure that a few of the episodes mixed up stories, like the drug that caused terror (from a short story iirc) mixed up with the Baskerville novel, and that worked out nicely too.

I definitely felt like it got better as it went on though, and I really liked what they did with Mycroft. Actually this might be my favorite interpretation of Mycroft -- he's actually a character instead of someone we only hear vague whispers about, but he stays true to character in that he's always in the background and hates legwork.

Wish the next season wasn't so far off. Do we know if the third season is meant to be the last one or not? Now that we've had the Riechenbach Falls storyline it seems like we've peaked a bit early if we are going to have more than 3-4 Seasons, but I wouldn't complain.

Thing is, this is a Sherlock that's still finding his stride and perfecting his art, instead of the usual depiction of him in his prime. So while it adds a very welcome dose of originality to a much-redone franchise, it puts a shelf life on how much development is possible until he reaches the stagnation of perfection, if you'll forgive the pseudopoetic turn of phrase. And honestly, once he's beaten Moriarty - THE nemesis of the franchise - there's not much left for him to do. And the British, unlike the Americans, tend to be very ready to put a series to bed if it's story's fully told, instead of wringing a few more seasons out of it.

So there's a very real possibility that the third season will be the last. Though there is a possibility that Cumberbatch and Freeman might form a repeating actor duo like Simon Pegg and Nick Frost - they're already side-by-side as Smaug and Bilbo respectively.

Then you download it when it's released on the interwebz like any other civilized person o_O

Last episode of the season, and the first were amazing. Wasn't so impressed with Baskerville, but it was still way above most other tv shows.

Baskerville was probably the weaker installment in Season 2 from the plot perspective, but it had some stuff I really liked.

Pretty sure they tossed in a few aspects of 1-2 Holmes Short stories in with the plot from the Baskerville novel to make it new/different for TV. There was a short story, I forget the name, where someone had been literally scaring people to death with use of an airborne drug that made you terrified of everything, for instance. I liked seeing that. Was also a big fan of Mycroft's casual but exasperated "What are you doing?" texts to Sherlock when he's used Mycroft's creds to sneak into that building. Plus the whole bit at the end when they're in the pit with Lestrade -- again, just fun.

Damn, I really want to see Season 3 now. Even if I do suspect it will be the last.

I actually kind of hope it will be the last. It just... feels right for the series. Three series of three episodes. I really feel that it would just start degrading if they tried to make a permanent thing out of it.

I feel I should mention that I would have absolutely no complaints if there were more episodes of similar quality though.

I think they could easily have stretched it to four or five seasons of three episodes each, but as it if they've already killed Moriarty, had Sherlock die via a fall, etc. That stuff should technically happen near the end of the middle, which it would be if S2 was the middle season.

But there were 4 novels and 56 short stories if I remember right -- that's a pretty good bit of material.

Eh. From a technical standpoint S3 should probably be the last. I just wish it wasn't only because I enjoy the show so much. They should go back in time and rewrite to make it more feasible to have 4/5 seasons, clearly!

I just went and watched Sherlock Game of Shadows, and while I loved the first movie, I thought it was just out and out garbage. I can't decide if it was because the movie was trash, or because this series has ruined any other Sherlock-y style for me.

I think this TV series had a big impact on how I viewed Game of Shadows. I, too, found GoS lacking. Moriarty, for one, was simply weak and pale when compared against the psychotic bastard in this TV series.

I adored/loved/envied the sheer insanity of Andrew Scott's Moriarty. It was just... what you want to see in an arch-villain.

Especially at the end of the third episode of Season 2, where:

Sherlock is dangling him over the edge of the building and says "You're insane". Moriarty just looks confused, almost shrugs, and replies: "You're just getting that now?"

The fact that he's saying that to what is arguably the greatest mind on the planet, coupled with Moriarty blowing his brains out a minute later, then whatever GoS had to offer was almost pedestrian.

I definitely think without the TV show, GoS would have had a better impact.

    Meh, what can you do?

I just heard that US edition of the first episode of the second season was cut out down from 90 minutes to 82 to make room for adverts. And it will be the same with the other two.

I'm not even sure how to comment on this.
