I'm looking for fics where Harry starts to lose his sanity (and goes Dark), more specifically like he does in Amer's Equal and Opposite or Anonymous88's Control. Thanks for any suggestions.

 

If you are interested in crackficlike insane, then try Dark Syaoran's classic Burn, Baby, Burn.

 

Demon's Feign Merlin's Pain features a pretty insane Harry and is a 5/5 story.

 

While the topic is up, I've been trying to refind a fic I saw on here a while ago. It involved Harry being thrown into Azkaban for some reason or another, then is let out by Dumbledore. Harry's gone batshit crazy while in prison. While they're (Harry + Dumbledore) in the MoM's office, he reads a newspaper, more specifically an article about the movie the Dark Knight. He then becomes the Joker--Heath Ledger style. Anyone else remember it?

You want insane Harry, I suggest looking no further than Calz's The Gazebo Is Burning. Two parts in and he's very much lost it. Very fun.

 

The Gazebo is Burning is showing a lot of promise, and Calz is a fucking boss. Harry Potter and the Dark Knight was pretty good, but I think it's abandoned.

There's also Distorted Games and that story that Voice is writing. The one where Harry goes batshit crazy after getting tortured by Bellatrix.

Wastelands is one of those stories that you don't really have to recommend. I'm sure 95% of DLP has already heard of it, and probably read it by now. That would be like someone looking for a twin fic, and someone recommending Santi's story. It's the obvious choice.

She doesn't like that. Not... one... bit. So, seeing everyone was watching, she takes her pen, laughing while she does it. Turns to me and she says, "Why kill Sirius?" Writes something down. "Why kill Sirius? Because I'm the author, I'm the goddamned JoKeR, and I can write whatever I please." Comes at me with the pen... "And I'm going to ship OBHWF, and have Harry name his kid after Snape, just to put a smile on my face."

confronts his own boggart and finds an innocent version of himself, then tells it that he was always a slytherin, always a snake. What kind of snake? Then he transforms and eats the boggart version of himself and then says "youre an ouroboros!"

Interesting to say the least.
Even if it has been abandoned for 2+ years.

 

Shit! I can't believe I forgot First Place Sinner by Daystar Clarion!

This Harry may not be full-on insane, per se, but he's certainly... off. Let's just say his idea of contentment is not the norm.

For some reason, I really like this fic. I don't particularly care for bleak, grim, unhappy, stories; I read for entertainment, not to abuse myself. But, I always thought the Harry in this story was pretty darn happy with the way his life was going, which sits just fine with me.

Screams is highly recommended.

Haha! An appropriate variation of the Joker's "Scars" speech, with JKR in place of the abusive father... and I'm the one who ends up disfigured. I don't think I have any more of that particular 'fic' (if you can call it that) in me, at the moment.

Edit: For anyone disappointed that Harry Potter and The Dark Knight is short and (likely) abandoned, feel free to read this and pretend it's canon (bonus points if you read it out loud in Heath Ledger's Joker voice... double points if you can manage an English accented version of that voice :?).

Thirded. It's pretty damn close to my favourite one-shot.

I always loved those, though I liked the first few more so than the last one, iirc. It's been a while since I read them.

 

That was a lot more creepily bland than "good," IMO.

That was incredibly, mind-numbingly awful. Have I been trolled?!? Jesus. It's right up there with that laughably terrible story Richardc269 has on FFn.

I really liked that one back in the day, and as Schadenfreude says, the first one was the best.

I couldn't even finish Wastelands. Just not my kind of story.

Seconding this recc. Harry is so nuts in the beginning that I initially was turned off. When I went back I was kicking myself for waiting. The battles are suitably inventive and epic.

Amer's Equal & Opposite is also a very good one (and in fact, Amer has quite a few crazy!Harry stories), but I think that Big D's Parting the Continents is my vote for the best insane!Harry. He's not pants-on-head, naked-in-the-rain crazy, but he's definitely, DEFINITELY unhinged.

Oh, and Lust of a Dark Soul - quite the crazy!Harry there, and calculating too.

Prince of the Dark Kingdom's Harry isn't insane, but he isn't stable either. I haven't read the last few chapters, but he's definitely doing some weird shit in the middle of year six.
