From what I've seen of the script it looks halfway decent, though I'm not sure about the shaky-cam.

Uh, Akira? Anyway, looks fun. My money is the documentary bit loses it's charm in the first half hour.

EDIT: Maybe I take that back, it looks like they may start using security camera footage as well, which could be interesting.

The perspective of the camera shifts. It starts as a home video camera the three are using, and then goes to bystander cameras and such.

Looks like a remake of Scanners except with the jerky camera style.

I have Scanners on DVD. I doubt this will top that. But it might be a fun movie. The reading I get from the trailer is that 3 douchey kids find some alien ship or some kind of device and get powers. At the end of the theatrical trailer they show the 3 of them finding something in a hole.

And of course, one of them goes bad. The slightly emo looking one takes things too far with fucking around with your powers on the unsuspecting muggles and shit goes down.

Best part of the trailer was the part where the black guy trolls some woman in a parking lot by moving her car with his mind. She comes back and thinks her car was stolen. The guy goes "This time the black guy did it!"

The black guy does a lot of that through the movie, including giving his girlfriend better orgasms if I remember right. He's pretty cool.

Then he gets hit by lightning.

Saw it and it's quite good. Not brilliant as it could be, but good nonetheless.

I think they should show more funny uses of the powers, because most of this stuff was in trailers. Actually, 90% of this movie was in the trailers (10% of trailers wasn't in the movie, like this one naked girl), which was a little disappointing when there was almost nothing new to watch.

Agreed. Halfway decent movie, though there was too much given away in the trailers.

Kinda glad that they gave a half-way decent motivation for the kid to go apocalyptic on everyone. Too many instances in movies/tv shows that go straight from normal guy to death-dealer without any real justification beyond power being corrupting, or them being a criminal before hand.

I think the film really could have benefited from an R-rating. Particularly, I felt that Andrew's rampage didn't have enough impact -- there was a lot of property damage, but barely any bloodshed besides Andrew himself at the end. Compare that to Tetsuo's rampage in Akira, from which this film obviously draws a lot from, and it's small time. I suppose they were limited by budget though.

I also think that they should have had a better framing device. Like, why is all this footage from different cameras put together as it is? There's no reason given for it. I'd have liked something like they did in Cloverfield: a slide at the beginning saying "Footage compiled by US Department of Defense" or something. I did like the multiple perspectives though, instead of a single shaky cam.

It's a pretty solid movie regardless. I enjoyed it a lot. Particularly the flight scenes -- they've got me excited for the new Superman movie.

Just got back from watching it, and I really enjoyed it. It's not exactly original - I think any reasonably genre-savvy viewer would know exactly what was going to happen even if they hadn't seen the trailers - but it made everything work very well. I was particularly impressed with how tight everything was. The script cut everything down to only the most essential parts, and still came up with a decent plot and well-written characters (bar the aforementioned genericness). The finale was spectacular.

Just found out Max Landis (the writer of The Shocker: Legit?) wrote the script. :sherlock:

    He apparently also did this.

I can hardly believe it, I thought the guy was some random delusional dude trying to get his shit published by Marvel but it turns out he not only knows a ton of actors but has enough pull to drag them on his short.

Also, Elijah Wood is fucking awesome.

I enjoyed this one. Yeah, the plot and characters were pretty transparent.
But the part where they figured out they could fly was pretty awesome.
I liked most of the scenes with them figuring out their new powers.

So, not blown away. But still a cool addition to the super hero genre.

Oh shit, Max Landis is the guy who did the Drunk Comic Book History of Robin? I loved that video, and Shocker: Legit.

It's not surprising considering who is his father.

A very good film- I would happily give it 4/5 (and I consider myself quite picky)
Well cast, well acted, well directed and most importantly - Well scripted.
I recommend it, easily the best thing out at the moment- actually I am going to go ahead and say best film of the year so far.
