Wasn't this site supposed to open to general public in like... late october? Are they still testing?

I don't know what the original idea was, but they had major server issues as far as I know, just with the beta folk. That will have been the major cause of the delay.

And I have to say again, majorly disappointed with the duelling.

I got in the Beta in October, messed around with it, read all the stuff, worked my way through the chapters, did a practice duel, and made a potion.

I've had no real desire to go back. It didn't suck or anything, and the wand/sorting was cool, but I feel like I ... more or less finished it?

I was mainly turned off by the name. I tend to think of the universe the books occur in as the Hogwartsverse, and making it be all about Harry Potter, in what is basically a mmorpg where not everybody can be Harry, is silly. I'd have sooner seen it called The Hogwarts Experience or something.

I mean, I don't think anybody I'd like to play with would seriously play Skywalkerlots either, but tons of people will go and play The Old Republic.

All I'm keeping Pottermore in my bookmarks for is the future release for info. If each book contains about the same amount of extra information as was given out with PS, then there is a huge amount to come.

Sorry to necro this thread, but I just checked back after several months of non use and I'm disappointed to see that there haven't been any updates yet. Where's my book-2?

Considering that they are not even done with the beta, I wouldn't hold my breath for it to happen anytime soon.

Yes, this is kinda ridiculous. They have to have had massively wrong expectations somewhere if fixing it takes this long. You don't even know what the problem is -- in the blog which should bring updates on the status, they post funny pictures.

As it is, this is reaching dimensions where you'll have to declare the platform a failure; the launch, at least, already is. They have to realise that. I wonder what the fuck they are doing.

See, I think if they just would go ahead and take down the shitty duelling system, forget about the pathetic potion making, and just stuck to their previous schedule of letting folk work through the scenes and get the extra information that Rowling has provided, it would be fine. It wouldn't be a roaring success, but they've lost their chance for such a success now anyway. Better to just try and keep peoples interests in the universe, than letting people stew and forget about it.

I haven't been back since I went to Ollivander's, and don't plan to.

My guess on the problem is Rowling. I imagine she realized what a mess this was and just how much work she would need to put in (again) in order to provide enough somewhat interesting info for seven books. At which point she looked at her 10-figure bank account and said, "Fuck that."

    Yeah, something like that, probably.

I lost any interest because of the "Merlin was a Slytherin" line. It was proving that Rowling and Co. didn't crosscheck the stuff they were going to post.

I assume it really was just an elaborate attempt at selling the e-books.

I'd buy the books, even. But there is no bookstore so far either, is there?

I think this disappointed me the most. In the Elder Scrolls, you can pick up a book and actually read it. It may not be more than a standard A4 sheet in MS Word's worth of words, but shit.

Instead, I go to the "book store" to buy the text books for the classes . . . and basically just get an item that is unreadable. :(

It's been about... three and a half months since it was supposed to officially launch. What a massive fail.

To be honest, if someone made a web-page that contained all the new information on canon (for fan-fiction writing purposes), I wouldn't even be tempted to look at Pottermore.

The execution of this -> complete and utter failure.

I wonder what the problem is though- it's not as if Rowling couldn't pay a team of ghostwriters to do the "fleshing" out.

Except Rowling has shown her disdain for anyone else messing around in her world several times already. If not through words than through actions.

What the fuck do you think the ending of book seven was? That was Rowling going "FUCK YOU, IT'S OVER, NO MORE EVER, HAHAHHA."

The thing is, even if things were going swimmingly she might want to milk the concept for all it's worth. Absolute best case scenario, once things are running smoothly: no more than a book every six months.

More likely scenario: A book every year.

But then, maybe someone associated with Pottermore suggested that things would be faster, I dunno. Additional special features and games could be interesting, but the extra text is the only real thing of value there, and I don't expect that to come out at anything approaching a fast clip.
