The minister's undersecretary and pureblood heirs disappear in Hogwarts. Harry is arrested and question with Veritaserum, then kissed by a Dementor.

The wizarding justice system is simultaneously too good to get away with things like that and too incompetent/corrupt to actually deal with the death eaters by itself. Otherwise, there would not be a story. If Harry were good at magic and ruthless enough, he could use memory charms, polyjuice, imperious, etc. to deal with the problem (kill all death eaters, corrupt officials, etc.) but he isn't. The whole story is about how all the adults are incompetent and the hero wins despite also being incompetent.

Well damn. I'm sure Dumbledore would be okay if Harry stopped by to off Fudge too.

Also, not a serious suggestion wolf. I doubt Harry would be able to get away with killing a bunch of kids in front of the questionably loyal DA in the middle of Hogwarts.

I suspect Hermione might be able to perform a successful obliviation as a fifth year, but other than her... yeah, no one.

I always figured that quidditch players would have the physique of a cross between a basketball player and a Moto GP driver.

@thebrute7: Your probably right, because Harry would over power that spell so bad, that umbridge would revert back to her toddler years.

New Pet Peeve: Molly Weasley being such a good cook that everyone in canon's heard of how good her food is.

Is it even established in canon that she's a better than average cook?

She's supposed to be the quintessential housewife. She's probably a pretty damn good cook.

Harry quite simply wouldn't know how to cast a Memory Charm as a fifth year. Hermione might because she tends to know all the magic in canon.

And did you seriously suggest that he might OVERPOWER a spell? The idea of magical power coming into play is ridiculous.

I refer you to Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling, which is quite possibly the best explanation of canon magic in the Harry Potter universe around.

Forget your magical cores and power levels. Harry might revert Umbridge to a toddler because he is unskilled with Memory Charms, not because he is Merlin reincarnate.

Still, might make a good crack!fic, Harry dealing with a messed up obliviate.

And yeah, I see where your comming from, but can you blame me for being influenced by the fanon of Harry being above average in power, when 90% of fics make it so.

Even if I did agree with Taure's theory, therein presented, it is fanon, pure and simple, and should not be offered up as evidence for anything whatsoever.

What Rin said. Given the mass of contradictions that is canon, it is a valid theory of magic. But it's only one of many that are equally valid.

I suppose. I disagree, since, though it is ultimately fanon, Taure's theory is the only one I have seen for which there is no explicitly contradictory evidence. But the idea of overpowering spells is still nonsense in my book, whether or not you agree with Taure's theory of magic.

Wow. Things have changed since I first joined DLP. I remember the days when a statement like that would incite such a reaction that could probably be considered borderline internet bullying.

    How I miss them...

    Dude... I was half-serious.

And I like how the 'old days' now means seven months.

When's that ever stopped anyone? A fifteen year old fangirl is usually run off this site pretty quickly. Or horribly corrupted beyond recognition.

Say's the 17 year old male.

And being 15 is great. I have two parents who provide for me, I don't need to get a job, and I can always use my age as an excuse if I fuck up somehow.

    EDIT:
