That brings a peeve of mine: something happening only [number of times] in last [x*100] years. Like "Harry managed to satisfy ten women, which only five people in last millennium managed to do". Where the fuck did they get these statistics?

I guess that's how you know they were that satisfied. They took part in a poll.

I agree with you fuckin' 100% with that statement. Whoever came up with that plot idea was a complete dumbass, and I wish I could shoot them.

Yeah, oops. But I'm more irritated by people bitching about people not following the rule. Also, forcing a summary onto stories that rely on mystery ends up with a useless summary.

    Bah, whatever.

Oh, well done, good sir! It is, of course, entirely other people's fault that they can not see it is a mystery story, and therefore you can't possibly write a summary that works for it.

Look, I'm not asking for a summary that spoils important details. Heck, I don't want that. But something like this would have sufficed: Who the view point character may be, time frame, what-have-you.

    Copypasta below:
We all have different tastes. We all like different things. Someone may not want to read what you would find fascinating, so on and so forth. Please add a summary at the top of your story. Or at least before the story. It need not be spoilerific. It doesn't have to be a novel in its own. But give us a damned idea of wtf you are talking about.

Oh, and, wanna know why I'm bitching about this?
(Your answer is probably an immediate "NO" but I'll tell you anyway)
    That's because I care.

Stories that don't have a summary about the story (for example, some dumbass author saying "Full summary inside" as the summary) will just make me bypass the stupid story because the author's too fucking stupid to even write a proper summary in the god damn SUMMARY BOX! That's what it's for! What a god damn SUMMARY, you fucking retard! If the story has no summary in the box, I just say "bye" to the story because it's not even worth my time.

Edit: Same goes for "summary sucks, better story". Uhm...no, sorry. If you can't write a proper SUMMARY, why the fuck would I think your retarded ass can even write a proper story?

I almost did that when my summary was too big for the box. Than I thought to put part of the summary there with a 'continued inside.'

I've been a little lenient on the summaries, yes. Mostly because it said various variations of "summary will follow soon". Rest assured that if they do not follow soon (where I get to determine "soon"), I'll be annoyed.

Also, yeah, Mystery ==> !Summary does not follow. I also don't get why you'd want that: a summary is your chance to convince someone to read your story, when they otherwise wouldn't. Why would you pass that up?

With summaries, I get warnings like contains slash and different house Harry. But are bashing warnings really deal breakers for people?

I'm skipping a story with a summary that says xy-bashing, if that is what you mean.

Also, I have the bad feeling that it's not meant as a warning, but as a feature.

Yes. You didn't realize that from all the complaining about bashing in this thread? If a story needs to rely on bashing it's probably not worth reading

I just feel that putting it in a summary is a waste of space because people will figure it out pretty fast.

I'd rather read some of the summary than none at all. I want to know what the story is about. I'm looking through a big list of stories. I wanna read the summary, and not waste my time opening the story and finding out it sounds like crap afterwards.

Same way I pretty much bypass any story that says "slash" in it. If I see it says "slash", I just continue looking further down the list, and don't even give it a second thought other than "hell no, next!".

I've developed a problem with unimaginative titles. Especially ones that begin with "Harry Potter: ..." or "Naruto: ..." since the first half is really unnecesary.

I recently read a fic called Naruto: Potential Realised which I enjoyed but the title just rubbed me the wrong way. Seeing as the premise is Naruto becoming a chuunin and working his way to the top, Potential Realised just seems really lacking as a title even though it's accurate.

This summary business reminds me of a sullen review I just received on FFN:

I LOL'd, but I always respond to reviews, so I sent him a PM.

[Note: I wouldn't reveal someone's PMs to me, but as this was mine to him I don't mind sharing.]

New pet peeve: The obsession with people's hair.

It seems like every fic I read these days has at least a paragraph dedicated to how Harry changes his hair. For example, every time he is in Slytherin he has to grow his hair into a ponytail. Or in the "fixing the books" fics he always grows his hair long so that it doesn't stick up anymore.

It's not just Harry. In every harmony fic Hermione has to fix her hair so that it isn't bushy any longer. And if Snape's in a fic you can be guaranteed his greasy hair will be mentioned at least once a page.

Is it some sort of strange hair fetish that I don't understand, I just don't know what is up with people's obsession with their characters hair.
