Personally, if I'd been in charge of fixing the whole mess, I would've gone with a bit of lateral movement, and just changed Derpy's voice while leaving the name intact. That lets you toss the vocal loonies a concession to shut them up, but won't piss off the fans since they all knew that Derpy's voice was a bit off due to her voice actress getting mixed up about Derpy's gender.

I suspect that the appearance of a total cave-in is what really annoys a lot of the fans. The show's fanbase really loves all the support it normally gets from the show's cast and crew, so having it suddenly seem like they were getting tossed under the bus to appease a few vocal loonies came as a nasty shock.

I really don't want to see the relationship between fandom and showrunners poisoned by this incident. After all, the fandom has always thrived on all the feedback and encouragement it gets from the show's cast and crew. "Save Derpy" and "Fuck Hasbro for screwing over Derpy" aren't all that far apart; having the fandom turn toxic would be a huge loss.

To be honest, a lot of the response to the issue has been horribly handled. They had to know the edit would cause an epic shitstorm among the fans; there should have been some sort of statement/explanation provided at the time of the change, instead of leaking out little bits of info a week too late. A well-written press release explaining the reasoning behind the change would have done wonders for keeping the fandom from getting into quite so much of a frenzy.

The info we've gotten on the ED link does hint at there being a lot of internal debate about the issue. Between that and the other hints of internal conflict, I suspect that the lack of any proper official response might be down to there not being any real consensus on how to respond. Damage control is hard to pull off when nobody can even agree what went wrong in the first place or how it should be fixed.

Hopefully there's some kind of plan in the works to patch of the damage Derpygate has caused. The fandom could use a reminder that this is was all a bit mess/misunderstanding, and the showrunners still love the fans. I'd personally suggest giving another one of the background ponies a chance to share the spotlight for a bit.

Personally, I'd do something semi-crazy like making Bon-Bon/Lyra canon, and then loudly and publicly tell off the inevitable loons who come out of the woodwork to complain. Makes the fans happy for the nod, and doubly happy to see that the showrunners will stand their ground against the crazies.

Then again, if I was given free reign over to do whatever the heck I wanted with the show, I would've dealt with the people complaining about Derpy by planning out a Derpy-centric episode to give her enough depth and character development to make it obvious that there was no substance to the complaints.

 

I saw that Lauren Faust is doing a short cartoon thing for the DCU involving Batgirl, Supergirl and Wonder Girl.

... And now I'm remembering that she gets shot in the gut and paralyzed by the Joker in an attempt to turn her father insane. Awkward.

Nice to see Fluttershy finally getting an episode in Season 2.

The return of Flutterbitch was hilarious. Not that Fluttershy having a lot of repressed anger/frustration is a surprise at this point. The Aesop was nicely handled too.

 

The motivational rhymes were hilarious.

Angel is such a fucking cunt. Worst pet ever.

 

Yeah, he was a whole new level of nastiness. Fluttershy unleashing the Stare on him at the end of the episode was satisfying.

Also, something I didn't notice at first, Flutterbitch basically drops a thinly-veiled F-bomb when she blows up at Pinkie and Rarity. Kind of surprised they got away with that (maybe moving the show to a later timeslot helped).

 

That whole scene with her insulting Pinkie and Rarity actually had me tense. It's going a lot farther than Discorded Fluttershy ever did.

 

Yeah. Discorded Fluttershy was just generically nasty, whereas in this episode she went for a very personal hit-them-where-it-hurts approach. I was pretty surprised by the combination of her being that vicious and the whole not giving a flying "feather" thing.

 

Saw this. I actually want a fanfic about it now.

I'm disappointed. The Cerberus popping up out of nowhere was unnecessary and a wasted opportunity, as was the usage of time travel. Celestia just walking by at the end was strange -- why would she be there? There was no real build-up, so the resolution really fell flat and was fairly predictable from the start. There were a few moments with Twilight and Pinkie that earned half a chuckle, but nothing very noteworthy.

 

It was decent, though I was expecting Doctor Whooves to break out a Tardis or something... Anyways they could have easily have played it out into something a bit more entertaining...

Say... her dealing with a magical paradox, think Mage the Awakening

 

Or they could've gone total Vidya shoutouts and had Pinkie run up to Twilight and yell "YOU'VE CREATED A TIME PARADOX!"

 

I think I enjoyed this episode more than you did. I actually liked it. The moments with Pinkie Pie were entertaining and I kind of liked the implication that the Greek Underworld exists within the Pony Universe.

Maybe not the best episode but it got a few chuckles out of me.
