Doesn't Harry dive out of the way of Voldemort's Cruciatus curse in book four?

 

There's nothing in canon to say yes or no. I think that it probably depends on the spell. Something normally used in duelling, like expelliarmus, always seems to travel in a straight line. However a spell like the Patronus is able to move about all over the show.

I don't think he was able to command trolls, he was just very good at dealing with them. This is the quote from Philosopher's Stone:

To me this says that he is very good at the spells needed to deal with them, sort of like Harry has a special gift for the patronus.

 

Okay, that and the cursed half life of drinking unicorns blood always seemed way too vague for me.

 

It could've also been the half-a-voldemort in his head. You know the evil dark lord that only ever feared dumbledore, yeah that guy.

 

Here's a question that's been bugging me lately; is Wizarding healthcare free in Britain like it would be in Muggle Britain? Like, would St. Mungos be a private hospital?

 

Seeing as how Mr. Weasley got care after his snake bit, it's reasonable to assume that there's some sort of subsidization.

 

Isn't it stated that it was paid cause it happened at the Ministry and they were covering their asses or is that fanon?

 

There couldn't be insurance even if they tried, the risk pool is too small.

 

I could see the idea of free healthcare at St. Mungo's for Ministry workers- be part of the establishment and you get access to those resources.

On the other hand, handling magic-gone-wild seemed to be the primary reason for most patients to head for St. Mungo's, so it may be an arm of the Ministry itself, with an endowment or twenty. If you've accidentally switched your ears for elephant tusks, they can't really just let you wander around...

 

We all hear about Azkaban, but are there lesser prisons for wizards? Like if you get really drunk and make muggles think they're from the middle ages do you go to Azkaban that night for drunken misconduct?

 

It's Azkaban or nothin'. Remember Morfin Gaunt? I believe he got 3 years in Azkaban for hexing some local yokels, and that was fairly easily covered up.

 

Wasn't that after repeated incidents?

 

What would happen if the killing curse was casted on the body part of a badly spinched wizard?

 

Reminds me of a fic I read where Voldemort casts FiendFyre(SP?) on the splinched limbs of Aurors so that they would have Phantom Limb Syndrome, just always feeling that limb burning...................for the rest of their lives.

 

Unless they used, you know, magic.

(Namely arithmancy).

 

If Arithmancy is actually a mathematical form of divination, then they wouldn't need insurance at all.

 

Why did Hermione only get EE on her Defence Against the Dark Arts OWL?

There isn't a single O given out per year, as we know Snape only accepts students who get an O. And it would be monumentally stupid to allow someone to only be teaching one student per year.

I just don't quite get why she doesn't ace this exam too, unless it's to show that Harry is teh awesomer at something.
