On the Cinematics discussion. while Blizzard provide the overall art design and storyboarding, actual production and animation is atleast partially outsourced to South Korea.

This is the first time I've heard of this.

Explain, or be burned at the stake for heresy.

Wouldn't surprise me. I was surprised to learn South Park, and Family Guy, American Dad, and many animated shows they send to Korea for everything but storyboards

Known about it for years; Disney sends its animated shows (Dave the Barbarian, Kim Possible, etc.) out to this one animation studio, in South Korea.

South Park? They did that behind the scenes episode and it looked like they did it pretty in house.

You're actually right about South Park, my bad. The DID use South Koreans, but they switched to in house computer animations instead.

For those of you who are still interested in this game (I know I am), they just announced the release date which is 05-15-2012 or the 15th of May.

Personally I'm very excited about this game and can't wait for the 15th now

    sorry silly me

    May 15th, not March.

They slashed the arena PvP system in order to do this, not something really standard for Blizzard. As I wasn't that interested I don't mind seeing it go until their first patch but it seems to have upset a few people looking to D3 for competitive play.

    Already preordered

PvP system was a bummer, but I think I can live without it for a bit. I expect its the first patch outside of immediate bug fixes.

I'd buy it if they had a Single Player mode like D2. I'm not really interested in multiplayer in the Diablo series anymore.

There is no single player per se, but you can make a private room just for yourself as you can do now in diablo 2 which you can protect with a password.

So, basically, they're just trying to make the choice between single player and multiplayer more seemless.

I was thinking that it's just a form of DRM.

Of course, that shit'll probably be cracked pretty quickly anyway.

No. I'd rather want singleplayer, not online singleplayer. I can't mod the game that way.

And I'm pretty sure the game will be cracked within no time. Skyrim was cracked not even 2 days after it was released.

There are already server emulators for the Beta. Though they're still fairly simple. Give it time and the modding community will figure out a way. They're persistent bastards.

The game won't be cracked like normal games, since AI and drops are serverside. I've seen a cracked version but I don't think it'll be playable without a ton of work. I feel like this is a DRM since it forces you to play online. If you want those super powerful items but don't have that much time to play, you'll have to pay up, instead of just using an editor.

I agreed with you, Richard, until you said it was because you wanted to mod the game. While not being able to play while offline is a bitter pill to swallow ( I have D2 loaded up on my laptop so I can play it at work if at school between classes) I've always enjoyed the game online vastly more than by myself. And I never felt the need to mod, dupe, or buy the items so I don't really care about the fact that you won't be able to cheat to get phat lewtz that I either had to make a MF character to find or trade for.

That being said, I never went into the ridiculous hardmode bosses after hell! Baal.

I'll be getting this the day it released because knowing I will buy this game either way, I subbed my WoW account and got the game for free. I vaguely dislike that I won't have any CD or boxes though.
