I've found that to be a pretty common tactic amongst the Irish. I'm their Emperor, but the various counts and dukes seem to be constantly excommunicating one another. I've seen no value in imprisoning the excommunicated leaders, so I've just let them be so far.

Im in the middle of conquering Ireland myself. I'm having a hard time finding CBs. Most of the counts and dukes are minors. Lots of in-fighting it seems. The huge truces also delays it quite a bit

Economic wise I think I'm doing something wrong.. Kingdom of England plus Normandy and half of Ireland and at the momment my montly income is like 7 gold. Granted, a lot of vassals don't like me right now, but still...
I suppose I will have to read the In-depth guide instead of only glancing it over.

On a side note: I changed my sucession law to gravelkind and a slaughter fest started. Pretty amusing :D. I also had 3 vassals revolting against me at the sime time, shortly after the change.
I was actually torn between gravelkind and.. Er, I forgot the term. You know, making women as eligible as men to inheritances. I plan to eventually have both anyhow.

Im spending so much time on this game. Jesus... Addictiong as fuck.

Someone killed my son-in-law (the one with the claim on the french crown). Grandson did not inherit the claim. So, Im pretty sure the only way he could get it would be making his father the king and thus him the heir.

But yeah, it seems pointless.. I think you're right when you say you can't have other kings as vassals.

Alright, I've worked this out. I think.

    1. Aelle was unlanded. He became King of Leon. Independent.
    2. Aelle was my vassal baron in Scotland. He became King of Leon. Independent [and the barony became Leon's].
    3. Aelle was my vassal duke in Wales. He became King of Leon. Independent [and the duchy became Leon's].
    4. Aelle was my vassal King of Wales. He became King of Leon. Leon became part of my empire!

It seems that the title which is inherited must be an equal or lesser tier than the title they already have as your vassal. This works even for multiple titles, eg. Aelle actually inherited two kingships [Leon and Portugal], but the single Welsh kingship he had with me was enough to bring those two kingships under my domain.

I'm still not Aelle's regent though. Dunno how to swing that.

You could always have Aelle assassinated and inherit his titles.

I've been considering exactly that. I don't like him having 3 kingships when he's not the primary heir to the empire.

I already had his future mapped out with a betrothal to a Castillian princess, but I suppose I could marry the girl myself when she comes of age. That means I need an intermediary wife for a few years. I've got a nearly-16 year old Welsh duchess picked out. If she pops out a kid or two, it'll help entrench my dynasty in Wales before she mysteriously dies and I wed the princess.

Been playing with the demo as the Duke of Bohemia (which has been ridiculously fun). How exactly do you increase Crown Authority enough so you can switch succession laws, and why the hell does your vassals' opinions matter when you do it? :sherlock:

Doing this is my favorite tactic ever. King Sancho the Conqueror will, in all honesty, probably be remembered as "King Sancho the Grandson Killer."

I think your are an vassal of the Holy Roman Empire so probably the crownlaws of it affect you.

If that isn´t the prob you can change it in the laws section.. but only 1 time pro monarch.

Is there any way to detect enemy army amounts? Norway and England combined like, 100 years ago and while I've been sniping places from them whenever they have a revolt it takes forever, and can't be done on my timetable. I don't want to war them and get assraped but I am the King of 4 different Kingdoms and can pull up like 40k men.

There are two methods I know of.

    1. Click on an enemy county and it'll show you the number of defending troops there. I think it only counts the troops in the first barony. Not sure.

    2. For the overall army size, open the ledger [a button under the minimap]. One of the ledger pages compares the stats of various realms, including troop numbers.

So, I learned a bit of an unpleasant lesson. Giving titles to all your family members does give the nice dynastic relations bonus, but there's a downside to it; every time you get a new ruler, you'll have several pretenders with access to land/armies. Think I need to prune my family tree a bit to cut down on the number of people in my dynasty who have a claim on the primary titles. Having a civil war every time you get a new ruler isn't fun.

My heir was born a twin so when he died, Prince Tomas took the throne and this brother Prince Unlucky wasn't too happy. Insta revolt.

Came across one of the awesome things about this game; the fact that some of the AIs look like they're having more interesting games than me.

I really should have paid closer attention to the Middle East, because while I was busy going from Duke of Toulouse to king of Aragon-Burgundy and worrying about the fact that England replicated history by inheriting Acquitaine, Abyssinia managed to conquer all the way up to Egypt, with a revived Byzantine Empire meeting them at the Sinai. I'd love to know just how that happened. Other highlights include the Muslims taking enough of southern Italy to establish a Sultanate of Sicily and threaten Rome, Sweden inheriting Denmark, and the Welsh King of Aragon (who I deposed to snag the title for myself).

I am having a great game myself starting out as Sven of the Sverker Dynasty in Sweden.

I started out as a duke with two provinces, both of which I controlled and a vassal county. I had a rough road ahead of me if I wanted the crown as the two major dynasties of sweden, Stenkil and Munsö, was controlling the rest of the land and the crown.

My expansion at the beginning was extremely slow. I spent decades to build up economic infrastructure and breed some offspring. I married a strong wife to give me lots of children and crossed my fingers for a boy with good genetic traits. Unfortunatly no boy came and after the third girl my wife was starting to grow old. I was rather fond of her and we were in live so I decided to keep her at least until she passed the 47 age mark. Lucky for me a son came near the end shortly followed by a girl genius! She was definitely going to be my succesor.

Meanwhile my chancellor had finally fabricated a claim on Gotland which would put me in control of 2/3 counties of another duchy. I quickly upsurped it and took the last county as a vassal. Sadly this wouldn't be nearly enough if I wanted the crown. The rest of sweden to the west and north was all controlled by the opposing dynasties.

Well, the short story is me getting second in line for the crown with my successor, my genius daughter, Amadilia. Apparently everyone loves a genius and one of the other dukes had voted on me to inherit the crown. Quickly initiating my shrewed scheme I killed the king and took the crown, but was sadly exposed as the plotter behind the assasination earning the title "the just". ?!?

I was pretty amazed when I saw that only one ruler in my realm disliked me and reckon a lot of it was due to my amazing stats and attributes ;). Having given a county to my brother and a nephew before claiming the crown, none of these had any claims and was thus unlikely to rebel. This left me with 2 counties and duchies as the Queen of Sweden which wasn't nearly enough to satisfy my needs, but how to go about it...? The rest of the land was firmly under the control of these other two dynasties and I couldn't just revoke their titles as a civil war would start which I was sure I wouldn't win. I found an extremely accomplished spymaster, 28 in Intrigue, whom I invited to my court. With my master assassin in place and a large stack of coins I was set for the takeover.

Assassinations are nice but I have really bad experiences with them. The chances of discovery and number of heirs are often too high to make it worth it, but in this case with 700 gold, my master assassin and amazingly enough an extra buff giving +10% to assassination chance I took out an entire dynasty and acquired another 1/3 of the country as my personal demense. Turned out that when I started killing of the offspring of the opposing dukes, their children would start trying to kill of each other as well to get be the next in line for succession. Those poor bastards I would imprison. I had already imprisoned the 2 next dukes of the duchy before they were even given the title.

A few years later both Stenkil and Munsö are wiped from existance. I firmly control Sweden and have started expanding the borders and my three children, two of which are geniuses, are set for two enherit my title when I pass away.

Who'd have thought? A Paradox game where everyone loves the Swedes? :p

Have to say, compared to some of the prior Paradox games this has a fairly reasonable Sweden. Europa Universalis always features a Sweden that at the very least snags it's historical 17th century empire and holds onto it, and Victoria turns the very loose Sweden-Norway union into a unified Swedish Empire.

I have a question. How do you actually form an empire using the wizmod? I control the entire Iberian peninsula, but there doesn't seem to be an option for creating an empire.

Do you have all the kingdom titles associated with the Empire? For Hispania you need to be king of Castille, Leon, Aragon, Navarre, Portugal, and Andalusia.

I have all of them except Andalusia, which is strange because I have all the necessary lands needed to create that title. Is there some kind of special option that creates an empire or is it just automatic?
