Just watched the pilot and I have to agree. Shit is unbelievably cash.

Can't wait till she meets the two brothers. Also, Toph's daughter is awesome and takes absolutely zero shit from anyone.

And because it can't be said enough: SHE'S THE AVATAR. DEAL WITH IT.

    This show's got it.

Korra is awesome. Loved the face she made at the chief of the police at the end of that scene. The imagination is great - the setting of Republic City, the metalbenders, the polar bear dog (what?!?!), and the anti-bender revolution.

Every time I go on tumblr I'm inundated with Avatar posts.

My reaction every time I see a Korra gif:

The guy who looks to be the primary antagonist (at least for now) seems really awesome. As does the whole concept of the anti-bender 'movement'.

I'm sort of inclined to agree with Rehio here. I mean, for all intents of purposes, the rank and file of Avatar-world have had their lives dictated to them by the whims of benders, be it the Fire Nation and their attempts at world conquest, the actions of the Bae Sing Sae secret police, or the existence of the Avatar itself, who basically decides what's right and wrong and is supposed to mediate between everyone. Hell, note that most ruling dynasties are either benders or have benders in the blood-line or are puppets to benders. There's is no upward mobility for a normal.

Imagine living in a virtual caste system like that, and tell me you wouldn't feel revolt-like. :sherlock:

Seems like an odd time to revolt now that Aang has established peace and the Avatar is back to maintain harmony. A city of equality? Better revolt up in that bitch.

I don't know the whole backstory though so we'll see.

Why cant the avatar do metal bending? Only Toph was able to metal bend, so why are the police able to?

    Was awesome episode though.

It's always seemed to me that the Avatar can bend all four elements, but can't do their specialized forms -- lightning generation (but he can redirect it), blood bending, metal bending. It's a nice check on the Avatar's power that also allows other benders to shine.

    Only if they're powerful/skilled enough I'd guess.

All earth benders have the potential to be metal benders because metal is purified earth. How is that not right?

    Steve Blum is Amon, huh?

And Toph's daughter is Frau Farbissina? Hehe. Toph must have married someone tall. :p

And, Stephen Root is every other character.

Looks like quite a few interesting voice actors will be contributing.

Has there ever been a sequel to an original cartoon like this (obviously stuff based on comics doesn't really count), that took place after most of the original's cast were dead? Outside Japan, anyway?

From the first episode alone, it already looks like bender criminal organizations have sway and position in the city, the police consists solely of benders, and at one council member is a bender (possibly all). I can't imagine the normals being pleased with any of that. And Tenzin does mention tension and issues....

    Batman Beyond?

    Airbending
    Firebending
    -Lightning
    Waterbending
    -Healing
    -Bloodbending
    Earthbending
    -Metalbending
    -Sandbending
    Energybending

The Avatar can do all of the bending arts. It would just be a matter of learning them
Ligtning was an advanced form and Aang was still learning Firebending.
Bloodbending was an unethical form of bending so he wouldnt learn that. Healing while useful was not going to help win a fight.
Metalbending was new and Aang still needed to work on his basic Earthbending and Sandbending was really not a need to know for him.

Metalbending is a special subskill set. It might just take time for an Earthbender or even the Avatar to learn it.

Energybending seems to be a special skill that only the Avatar could learn. The lion-turtle taught Aang.
The lion-turtle taught Aang. Doubtful he taught anyone else that skill.

Nope. See, I meant a cartoon that was created from whole cloth, a completely new thing, and then IT gets a sequel, based solely on how good it was.

Batman Beyond was still based on something that came from comics. No matter how good Batman: TAS was, any sequels it has, or might have in the future, will have been partially due to the enormous body of work that comes with it, all the history of the Batman comics, and movies, and cartoons, and so on.

Korra exists solely because ATLAB was so good that the people with the money decided ATLAB's cache (and the people responsible for its production) was sufficient enough to carry a (profitable) sequel.

There was no preceding Avatar: The Last Airbender comic, or series, or a separate series the original series was spun off of, to help drive the production of the original show and generate interest in a new one.

So, I was wondering if any other completely original cartoon got a sequel, based solely on its own merit. A true sequel, not another season (or reboot) of the original with the same characters as the original, only after the production stopped for an indeterminate span of years (Futurama and Family Guy, for instance, which were both canceled and resurrected. Also, Family Guy's spinoffs don't count as sequels, either: They run concurrent with the original, using one of the original's characters to drive the show).
