So, you may or may not remember by Five Spell Challenge thread.

I was talking with MattSilver, and it occurred to me that there was more fun to be had with this idea beyond just thinking about which spells you would pick, if you could only have five.

Imagine a Harry Potter world where every magical person only has five magical abilities. Each magical ability corresponds to an individual spell in the canon world, though people who become skilled at using these abilities can stretch their applications and form somewhat (e.g. someone extremely skilled with "aguamenti" might be able to control the direction of the water).

Moreover, these five spells are not random. Rather, they come in sets of 5... just like character classes.

So, here's the game: come up with "character classes" composed of five Harry Potter spells!

 

The Housewife

The only class to possess the Killing Curse, and the only class to have more than one unforgivable. You can imagine how such a scenario would put real fear into a population.

Fanfic in such a world would be interesting. For any kind of successful magical endeavour you'd need a combination of classes. You could make it even more interesting by having what class you are determined by your parents - thus providing a basis for Pureblood selective breeding - even more so than in canon. Purebloods would be crazy about breeding themselves the perfect class. And Muggleborns - they'd have random classes. So unpredictable, they present a real danger to society.

You'd have to change Hogwarts, of course. You don't need seven years to teach 5 spells. Maybe it would be more like a normal school: maths, English, etc. only for people with powers. Somewhat like Xavier's in X-Men. And you could still have classes like astronomy, history of magic, etc. Even Quidditch. And Potions. With only 5 spells each, Potions would become seriously important. Speaking of:
