The fact that it's too grandiose makes it all the more likely that it was thought of by teenagers.

Well, y'know...if that had actually happened in the book.

In the third row under Prophecy/Hall of Profecy, it seems to say "Nagini attacks W.W.". Was she possibly planning of attacking Bill instead of Arthur? And wasn't she also planning at some point to kill Arthur in that attack? I wonder how much that scene actually changed.

Anyone who thinks that "Order of The Phoenix" isn't something that fifteen year olds would come up with clearly needs to pay attention more to high school band names.
Heck, just at mine we have the Endless Tirade of Despairing Tears and the Mythical Beasts of Legend.
Harry is at least that retarded.

TBH, I doubt Harry would have came up with the name. I could see this being Hermione's idea.

Last week in one of the classes we had some group project so we had to create groups with names and shit. I came up with: Atomic Squirrel Vaginas. And yes this is an university.

Whoa, this is a real thread?

I skipped over it these last few days. Assumed a thread titled "Rowling's Planning" posted up a few hours from April fool's was a dead give away.

I don't see much difference between "Mythical beasts of legend" and "Order of the Pheonix" tbh.

These are actually funny as parodies, though, while OotP would be entirely serious and not-funny.

Dear god, T3t, I wish they were parodies.

You know after reading last few posts I suddenly got a plot bunny about DA naming scene being played for loughs in most crackish ways.

Can you think about how hilarious some of the names suggested could be?

Really? No disrespect to Rowling, but I'm very surprised that she had this kind of outline written out. She always struck me as one to write on the fly, based on some mental image of the big picture.

Yeah, I could imagine this as something she knocked up on the side to throw at publisher and say 'Yes, look, I have a plan, I have a plan, shush up.'

Really? I think it was quite clear that she knew pretty well what she wanted to do. And tbh, I don't believe you can write a series like this without planning. It's a couple of million words. People get this idea that she didn't plan things because of a few details, but that's nonsense. It's nothing compared to what it would look like if she didn't have a plan. You already need one to keep track of what you wrote before, if you don't want to re-read your own books all the time. This is exactly what I thought she did -- considering e.g. that the dates and times mentioned in the books are consistent to each other, more or less. That just doesn't work if you write randomly. And if you look at the documentaries (e.g. Harry Potter and Me), she's got tons of material and notebooks and stuff. You can't keep that all in your head. It's impossible.

Both of those are so retarded (esp. the first - oh god that's fucking stupid) that only a moron would think they're anything but shit.

My 15-year-old band name? Corruption, which while pretty cheesy and sophomoric, is light-years ahead of the shit listed above.

This, although "Defense Association" which IIRC Hermione *did* come up with, is just the kind of matter-of-fact and plain-Jane enough kind of name I'd expect from Hermione.

Harry, on the other hand - if he'd *really* wanted to name the group, would've picked something like "Bugger Off, Umbridge!" or "Clear You Mind Of This, Snape!"

Or no. As emo as Harry was being through most of OotP, he'd have been more likely to name the group "Why Are You Ignoring Me, Dumbledore?" or "Wah, My Dad Was A Wanker And Snape's Taking It Out On Me" or "Nobody Wrote To Me Last Summer And Now This Chink Bitch Is Crying All The Time!"

If Ron had named it? "Chudley Cannons." That's how inventive he is.

Clearly university has done nothing to foster your growing up. What are you, ten? Good luck losing your virginity before getting your PhD.

They're both pretentious, but the latter at least has some panache. The first sounds like a self-published textbook for a half-ass liberal arts college about to lose its accreditation.
