I can't remember where I read it, or what the fic was called, but there was one I read a while back where Harry goes to a funeral with Dumbledore. But it stuck with me because it wasn't just a Christian ceremony, as far as I knew, it was completely original - all the people stood in a spiral around the funeral pyre, with one hand on the person in front, and one on the person to the side, and pushed magic through the crowd.
And then Harry made the flames be blue, or some other oddity of magic. I can't really remember.

But it stuck with me because it was new, and interesting. Most of the time, when you see a wedding or a funeral in fanfiction it just ends up the stereotypical Christian style, or people swearing to magic.

Pretty sure that's Book 4 of Shinysavage's series.

Nope - very similar, but a few different details.

I've seen it as well but forget where, was it perhaps Altered Destinies or something.

There's a similar scene in one of the Sacrifices books, I think, although given that series' Dumbledore it's probably not the one Thaumologist is thinking of.

No, I'm reading that series, while I've not seen any funerals yet, I know for a fact that I saw that scene in a different fic.

It isn't the Sacrifices series, as I've never read them. It isn't altered destinies (I'm pretty sure anyway), as I gave up on that one.

I'll go start reading through Shinysavage's stuff, see if it rings any bells.

Perhaps Barb's trilogy? I feel it was too forward thinking to be Barb's though... some sort of Harry/Hermione fic maybe?

Sounds like Lavender Brown's funeral in the "unfinished" portion of Full Pensieve's Harry Potter and the Years of Rebellion. (in this chapter).

I liked that funeral scene quite a bit.

Yes damnit! I almost said it was that fic but couldn't remember any deaths so I was all "welp, not it"

The Harry vs Voldemort fight in Wastelands has stuck with me since I read it, mainly because I was feverishly ill when I did, and was already hallucinating, so I basically saw all of this happening through another fever induced hallucination.

I've never felt so terrified, and will probably never feel so exhilarated because of fanfiction ever again.

I reread both Wastelands and Heartlands today.

There've been several valid complains about the first couple of Heartlands' chapters, mostly due to the lack of progress, but those chapters definitely contain some of my favorite scenes.

Harry visiting Tessa in Australia, how he decided to simply let Voldemort have Atlantis, the revelation of Saturnia's identity, the fact that he met the older half of Tessa again, buried her and the following conversation with Saturnia. And especially Harry's corpses appearing at Hogwarts.

This gives me the shivers every time I read it.

All of these scenes are just so powerful that I can't help but envision them.

Most of the talented authors on DLP are talented enough that I can imagine many situations, settings and scenes, but both Wastelands and Heartlands evoke so many vivid images that set them apart from most other stories for me.

By the way, does anyone else have his own mental picture of Hogwarts that completely differs from the movies'?

    You stupid worthless fuck!

I've been intentionally avoiding Heartlands until it's further along in the storyline

    ...

    WHY

Why the fuck must you Spoil the shit out of my favourite EVER story?

    ...

    Tessa is Saturnia? Since when?
Is Chronos the child of Harry and the saucy water Nymph too?

You're in luck, because Tessa isn't Saturnia.

Read my sentence again, I intentionally avoided spoiling anything. No need to worry, you can still look forward to that revelation.

The summary for "Harry Potter and the Boy Who Lived"
The summary alone made it better than 99.9% of the stories that feature the "Wrong BWL" plotline.

    Bollocks!

I’ve now re-read Tinn Tam’s ‘Reach the Open Space’ after saying the thing has my favourite moment

Yeah, well I’m now even more secure in the declaration!

Harry kills Scrimgeour… Like, right out, murders him without any excuse…
    It’s like a flawless moment…

Harry finally becomes the powerful, self directed super badass, Harry has always meant to have been!

It’s the best FanFiction moment specifically because, in that instant I really wished I was the kind of person who would just murder Scrimgour too…

It’s like all those times Harry is fighting against a Manipulative Dumbledore, every time the Goblins steal his cash, all those moments the Ministry forces him into bowing to their demands… Tinn Tam produces that starlit moment, the peerless instant where everything coalesces into the world I want to be a part of…

And then Scrimgour dies by Killing Curse!

    Fucking perfection, pure and simple

For me the most memorable moment would have to be when the Astronomy Tower fell during the fight between Harry and Voldemort at the end of Shezza's Denarian Lord. The image was so powerful and the fight so spectacular, that moment is the first thing I think of when I think of fanfiction.
Another very memorable moment for me is when Ron pretty much straight up murders Draco at the end of Reign of Power by Fayr Warning.
