I think people from Britain are going to appreciate this a lot more than foreigners.

Tibbers: people in Britain don't give a shit about local elections. That's the whole point. It's, like, ironic or something. Making such a huge drama over completely insignificant small town "politics" is exactly the kind of pedantic small town skullduggery the British are experts at.

The book sounds definitely interesting, not least for its potential ability to paint a somewhat exaggerated but close enough to the truth to be funny picture of rural Britain.

As for the names, I think they're excellent. Like Severus Snape, Remus Lupin, etc. they're not realistic but they are extremely evocative. You can tell so much about Rowling's characters and places just from reading the names.

Meh, not my interest in the least. I'm a sci-fi/fantasy guy all the way.

Yeah, but she can get away with those because she was writing for a different culture in a fantasy world. These are just normal English people with wierd names, which is a lot more stupid.

I'm going to have to agree with the general sentiment - looks bland and not something I'd ever dream of reading were it not for the author. I'll wait for someone on DLP to read it first.

I am sure JK's fame would play a lot on the mind of reader and as such it would garner pathetic reviews.

Honestly, as much as she may like the name Barry and think it is perfect for the character....how did she not realize that millions of people would LOL at it?

Ummm...yeah. Not even gonna torrent it unless DLP people who are interested in this book give it a 5/5 after the first read. I also will not count Taure's opinion in this. Cause, you know...he's 'English'.

I won't be touching any of her crap ever again without heavy recommendations from as many people who still willingly read her drivel and can give me a honest opinion as to why it's good, because she wrote it not being one.

I only read authors for their name when they've earned it. I'd sooner read Stephen King for his name than J.K. Rowling. That should say enough.

I'll pick it up with or without recommendations just to see if her writing style will have changed with a different tone and and setting. I haven't read many published works where the author stepped out of their usual niche into another.

If it really is something tending towards Caroline Graham's Mitsummer Murders I'd definitely read it. Lines like "Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were
perfectly normal, thank you very much."
have me think that she could pull it.

    Reading about Harry Potter?

Last I checked Barry isn't Harry's secret porn star name.

I'm going to treat Rowling just as I treat any author with whom I remain skeptical of their ability to write. I'm not just going to go buy the book because she slapped her name on it. I enjoy Nick Hornby but that doesn't mean I put one foot even near Slam.

And I'm not going to download it illegally. Because I think that's ridiculous to do.

You fucking would with all that political shit you write. Noir and Neo-noir makes me want to scream at kittens.

    This. Sci-fi more than fantasy.

JK is just banking on the fact that she wrote a best-selling children's series to sell this potentially polished flop of a turd.

Maybe it's a code name to throw us off the real plot--kind of like Star Wars and its production name 'Blue Harvest.'

    ...One can always hope. :D

I am going to get this, and I am going to read it. I probably won't enjoy it.

But fucking dibs on writing the first ever CV/HP crossover! :awesome

Ten bucks she's so used to writing Harry it makes it easier for her to just write without correcting herself. ;x
