I think it's finally a time to give this film its own thread.

    New trailer.

EDIT: UK version with new scenes.

Michael Fassbender is a fantastic actor. They found the right person for David.

They should have gotten Keanu Reeves. He's already part robot.

I did not expect any movie this year to come close to Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit in terms of anticipation, but Prometheus is starting to look like it might, for me at least.

Half prequel. Same universe but it should be able to stand by itself independent of Alien.

Meh, I don't see what's so different about this compared to tons of other space/alien sci-fi movies.

Its different partly because of it's already established world which is bleak, wide and interesting. And also partly because the cast looks fantastic, and there is a ton of funding for the environments and CG. And because its a fucking Alien movie.

Do you think Keanu can do that? :sherlock:

Most space/alien sci-fi movies are simply one-offs that don't draw enough money to merit a sequel, the majority of which will never have lore beyond the movies themselves. The Aliens/Predator universe is almost absurdly rich in lore, culture, and history.

Alien (1979) gave us a view into a future driven more by corporations than countries, Weyland-Yutani by that point is simply known as "The Company". In this future, people are worth far less than scientific discoveries. The Xenomorph (Generally referred to as Aliens) offer military benefits beyond anything they've ever seen before (Which is why Weyland industries spends so much time trying to get them. You actually see them trying to tame them in Alien Resurrection) They're called beautiful on multiple occasions, not just because they look cool, but because they are the ULTIMATE killing machine in the known universe.

A massive portion of lore always gets left on the cutting room floor, and unfortunately most people will never see beyond what's shown in the movies.

Think about how many Star Wars fans there are, now take away everyone who hasn't played all of the games (Jedi Knight, Jedi Academy, KoToR, ToR and everything in between), subtract from them the people who haven't read the books, subtract from the result the people who haven't read the comics, and you're left with a number so small it's almost insignificant compared with the original. The same applies to Aliens.

The backstory between the Aliens and Predators is expansive, engaging, and downright awesome... but like a great many awesome things it will largely go unnoticed. Prometheus will be the first time we actually get to take a look at one of the greatest mysteries in the entire series, the Mala'kak (Serious fucking spoilers, folks).

Check out Aliens vs Predator: Three World War if you're so inclined.

Besides Prometheus, Predators (2010) was the best thing to happen to the universe in a really long time.

Oh, and having seen the trailer from the OP in the theater recently, the sound is beyond amazing, I would see this film just for the soundtrack.

So, is that the same ship from Alien/Aliens/Aliens Versus Predator Gold, or one of the same type of ship, because -in Alien- it was said that the Pilot and the ship were partially fossilized; it'd take way more than a few centuries for that to happen, at least.

From what I can tell, it looks like the Alien connection is going to pop up at the very end, maybe in the last fifteen minutes; the 'jars', being arranged in a spiral in that one chamber, remind me of the Aliens' egg placement seen in the first Alien film.

We clearly see biomechanical-type things throughout the film, from decorations to little slugs - trouble is, if they do the whole 'Aliens came into creation there', it'd fuck up a lot of what the other films in the franchise have stated, Predator and Aliens. Ans that's not counting the scores of (sometimes questionable) EU material, like games and comics and books.

It's hinted that she's human, but there's a good chance that she is an android that's 'done an Ash/Bishop'.
