Walking away for a few minutes is always the best thing to do. If the reason you're pissed is because of other people then you can block or mute them most of the time. If the reason is your own playing or actions; get up and walk away for a few minutes. Take some time to think what went wrong, what you could have done differently, take some time to calm down and think rationally.

Amusingly enough this helped me learn how to drive standard recently, sadistic father wanted to have me learn how to drive stick on a mazda speed 3 racing variant. First time I have ever driven stick and his instructions were basically, keep trying till you get it right.

For me, walking away is literally the worst thing I can do.

Provided that nobody is cheating on the server, rage is generally a symptom of playing badly. So I take a deep breath, sit back and let stuff unfold a second. Then I analyse what it was I just saw, find where I'm going wrong and adjust my strategy accordingly. Talking myself through it in my head, in a calm, clear voice, as though I were explaining it to someone else allows me to take control of the frustration and better analyse what it is that's going on.

Then in the future I know how to deal with the situation.

I don't often rage when playing games.

No, seriously. I don't see the point. Unless I'm having a day when I just can't do /shit/ right, then I'm raging at myself. Rarely the game or the other people, though. If I get beaten-- Good! Fuck, games are already pretty damn boring a lot of the time, it'd be worse if I always won. I just want a good goddamn fight, which I can put up most of the time.

To answer your question, though-- Smoke a bowl. Maybe grab a beer. Watch what they're doing in spectator mode for a sec if you have the opportunity. Figure out what you're fucking up, and unfuck it-- or at least fuck it up in a new way.

/ignoreall works really well for me when people are being idiots.
I generally don't play alone either, so I don't rage at my friends because I'm just considerate enough to realize that's a whiny brat's way of handling things. That means we can make fun of the randoms on voice chat, which really helps with the rage.

Only videogame where I often find myself getting angry is CoD, but I only play that with IRL friends anyway so we just usually go on about what fucktards Infinity Ward are and how much we fucking hate Robert Bowling (Seriously, fuck that guy.).

Only other time I get angry is when games just won't work - which is somewhat often, being a PC gamer. I just channel my anger into getting that bitch working, or towards the EA customer support (because most of the time it's an EA game that won't work because of Origin or some shitty reason) who are absolutely useless.

But yeah, I'm usually not the sort of person who throws controllers into TV screens or whatever other horror stories you hear.

Just... Don't? Self control and patience are valuable traits.

Feel angry, sure, but don't let it dictate what you say or do. If you cannot think rationally about a decision, it's best to wait. Easier said than done sometimes, but it's a good general rule.

This topic demonstrates the emotional immaturity of your average DLPer more than any amount of sick jokes, offensive speech or nasty porn ever could.

It's not that hard to control your emotions.

Or maybe I'm a robot who has yet to discover accurate self-awareness. =(

If you've never gotten frustrated playing a game, you've either never played one or you're a fucking liar. So step down from your high horse.

Not what I was saying - we just hated him for getting our hopes up and lying about there not being Last/Final Stand in the game. I actually had a bit of respect for the guy, with his talk of how he didn't think customers should have to pay extra for remakes of maps from previous games in DLC, as it basically requires little to no work from the devs.

I was disappointed when he quit, because chances are he cared a lot more about the fans than most of the other people working at Infinity Ward/Activision. Doesn't mean I wasn't pissed off about the whole "Fuck you Last Stand" thing though.

You, sir, are scum. Your opinions on video games are henceforth rendered invalid. The sheer fact that you like Last Stand astounds me. Obviously you have never been on the receiving end of such faggotry as Last Stand perpetrates.

If you have, and you think it's fine, then I sincerely hope you are chosen for testing on what space does to the human body and are jettisoned into space for the purposes of science.

What? When did I say I like Last Stand? I was saying I was pissed Robert Bowling said it wouldn't be in the game, then it was - which annoyed me. I do not know where you got the idea that I liked Last Stand from - I don't know where you could get the idea that anyone could actually like Last Stand.

If you want to know my stance on Last Stand, watch the video I posted above. That sums it up perfectly, and it explains what I'm talking about with Bowling saying it wouldn't be in MW3.

I suppose that's what I get for jumping the gun and posting off of first impressions. I'll watch the video when I find a free minute or two.

You just keep shooting when they go down. ;) Dead Man's Hand is infinitely more annoying than any death streak, and yeah, it sucks that Final Stand is in the game, but he said Last Stand, not Final Stand.

People seem to have had this weird idea that he had absolute control over the direction of the game which is just clearly untrue. He's done a lot for the community and been ignored and fucked over by the players and by activision, so I'm not surprised he left.

I typically take a +4 bonus to Str and Con and a -2 penalty to AC. Then I slaughter everything that moves. Playing Barbarians is awesome.

Outside of RPG's where rage is a class ability, I'd advise you to learn from it. See where you failed and what you can do better, and if you're entirely faultless, move on. The only other thing you can do is go online and whine somewhere, which in turn makes you look more than a little immature.

Difference between wifebeating rage and "fucking up your videogame playing abilities" rage? Big.

Difference between the latter and mere frustration? Small.

Difference between you and a self righteous faggot? None.

Rage is a big word for me. It describes a hell of a lot of emotion, and is on the far side of mere anger. The screaming, swearing tantrums that some people get into count as this. If you're so angry that you can't deal with it without lashing out, you're more than just frustrated.

Then again, anger is something people indulge in - it's almost an emotional form of masturbating, and I've read articles discussing how the brain reacts in the same way, releasing endorphins and triggering chemical reactions I know nothing about in a psuedo reward system. It makes sense from an evolutionary standpoint, where the biggest baddest monkey in the tree got all the bitches and bananas.

It's as addictive and habit forming as any narcotic. Anger management therapy often uses the same processes that substance abuse treatments do.

If you're getting into a rage - an actual rage, as opposed to merely frustrated or annoyed - over a video game, it's because you're letting yourself. Usually on a level so deep, and a habit formed so strongly that you can't even tell that, on some level, you're letting it happen.

I usually only rage on CoD if I'm playing Domination or Dropzone (best. gametype. ever.) and some fuckstick is sitting JUST outside of capture range waiting on the other team to run in and kill us all, then maybe kill one person and get waxed (thereby contributing NOTHING to the team).

At that point I usually remind them how the game is played. If said behavior continues I suggest something anatomically impossible. Then find a new lobby.

End of the day, as far as switching to a different game to tromp through and Hulk out on... it's gotta be Combat Training on CoD: Black Ops. The bots get names of my friends. I get to kill them. Yay Nuketown!

IRL... putting on some Chris Thile and trying (read: failing) to keep up on the mandolin. Also taking a good run to chill down then spending a few hours putting lead down range.

The fact of the matter is: everyone has some activity they enjoy that in some ways can REALLY cause them frustration/rage/what-have-you. At that point, as has been suggested, it's always a good idea to step away for a while and get some perspective... remember why you like it in the first place, ya know?

So, am I the only one who, while not paying attention for a second, saw this topic, and was briefly amazed that there was a thread about dealing with rape?

On-topic, I generally opt for quitting whatever game is making me rage, and switching to something that's more relaxing or just good for venting some frustration. Preferably something simple and uncomplicated, because when I start raging I tend to get really nitpicky until I've calmed down, and can go into continued rage-mode over little things that normally wouldn't bother me.
